"Huh? Why is that car not moving?" One of the hotel staff asked to welcome the guests, whispered with each other before they turned their heads towards the car Zoey came in.
"Hey, someone go and check what's going on." One of the security staff muttered as he turned his head and stared at the growing line of cars behind it.
"Alright." Someone nodded in determination and approached the window by the driver's seat. He knocked on it lightly, waiting for the person behind the window to roll it down.
"Sir, are you having some trouble with your car?" The male staff asked politely. He didn't want to assume more negative thoughts, nor did he want to sound as if he was trying to hurry the driver inside.
However, there was no response from the person inside the car. Thus, the male staff knocked on it again.
"Sir?"
After several attempts, the window finally rolled down. Slowly but surely, the male staff waited as he peeked through the gap that rolled down to reveal Matthew's jaw.
"Uhm, sir? Is there something wrong with your vehicle? The line is growing long." Upon laying his eyes on Matthew's side profile, the staff cleared his throat and uttered politely.
He studied Matthew's demeanor. By the looks of it, the person inside the car didn't appear like he was having trouble with the car. Matthew was looking at Zoey's figure heading inside.
"I don't care." Matthew replied without casting the staff member a single glance.
"Sir?" Taken aback, the male staff thought he had heard him wrong and leaned down, closing in on the window to hear him clearly.
However, Matthew didn't bother to speak anymore. He didn't care if he offended one or two people in this place. After all, they would say the same thing to him after knowing who he was.
"Sir, please, we don't want trouble. If you're not having problems with your car, please move on." The staff cleared his throat after Matthew's indifference and repeated his previous remarks. But this time, although he still sounded polite, it was also firm and commanding.
Yet, Matthew was still staring at Zoey as she handed the invitation to one of the butlers. The attendant kept buzzing by his side. Thus, to shut him up and give him peace, Matthew shoved his hand inside his pocket.
Since Matthew was taking action, the male staff furrowed his brows as he assumed Matthew was planning to bribe him.
"Sir, please. We don't want to cause a scene."
The male staff warned, frowning at the assumptions he had in his head. If this was a normal day, he wouldn't mind doing favors. But there was a big event going on and he couldn't afford to offend everyone because of one person.
Just then, unlike the staff's assumption, Matthew handed a small card to him. It was clipped in between his fore and middle finger. The staff furrowed his brows before cautiously accepting it.
He then skimmed through the business card Matthew gave him. "Xi… Matthew…"
The staff read it in a questioning tone. The name sounded familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had heard the name. He wasn't a celebrity. Although the man inside the car had the qualities of a top star, he didn't seem to be familiar. Thus, he continued to read the rest of the business card.
"CEO of XI Corporation…!!" Upon reading that part, the staff's eyes widened as he gasped in disbelief.
'What… What is this man doing here?' The staff wondered internally as he stared at Matthew's side profile in surprise.
"Sir!" After a beat, the male staff realized his actions. "My apologies for not recognizing you, young master Xi."
He immediately bowed his head while feeling sweat break out on his forehead and back. Everyone knew the XI Corporation. The building of the said company stood out in the city. It would be utter ignorance on his part not to know about it and the prominent family who owned it.
"I'm waiting for her to get inside." Matthew didn't glance at the person standing outside as he uttered his words. "If anyone gives you trouble, your answer is in your hands. But I prefer not letting anyone know I am here."
The staff outside the car gazed down at the business card in his hand. He never felt so reassured in his life just holding a card.
"Yes, young master Xi." The staff nodded and placed the card inside his pocket suit. He then left Matthew alone and went back to his post.
"Huh? Why is it still there?" As soon as the male hotel employee returned to his colleague, someone raised a question.
"Is there a problem with the vehicle?"
"No," The staff answered. "Young Mas -- I mean, the person inside wanted to see the Young Miss go inside."
The male employee shook his head as he raised his head towards Zoey's direction. He recalled Matthew's last remarks, and he didn't want to give Matthew unnecessary trouble to gain brownie points.
"Huh?" Upon hearing their colleague's response, everyone furrowed their brows and tilted their head to the side.
"It's someone we can't tell to follow the rules." Before they could berate him, the male employee scanned his colleagues and said solemnly.
They stared at each other, studying the person who saw the one inside the car before they sighed. By the looks of him, he wasn't lying.
"Someone who is not afraid of the Meng Family?" Someone murmured as they all looked at the car that started to move again after Zoey left the entrance.
Meanwhile, Richard Sun's car that was behind Matthew's was growing impatient. He was tempted to honk at it but it would surely displease Professor Meng if he caused a scene.
"Damn! Who do they think they are?!" He grumbled through his gritted teeth.
Richard tapped his fingers on the steering wheel impatiently. He studied the car's model and scoffed.
Although the car seemed to be brand new, the model was old. Thus, the price was lower and he could safely say that it was the least promising among all the cars in this line.
Since Richard was busy earlier, he failed to see who left the car. If only he saw who it was, he would surely…
Just as Richard was creating a scheme to punish the person holding the line, he unconsciously shifted his gaze to the entrance of the hotel. There, he had a glimpse of a familiar figure: Zoey.
Richard darted his gaze from Zoey's figure to the car ahead of him. Upon realizing his 'luck', the side of Richard's lips curled up into a smirk.
"It was her assistant, huh?" Richard muttered as he remembered Zoey's arrogant assistant whom he met back during their meeting a few days ago.
