Chapter 589 - Sixth Commandment II

[Continuation of the flashback]

After Zachery had a long discussion with Sarah and the latter signed the divorce papers, he went back to his humble home where Betty was waiting for her.

"Beth?" As he changed his shoes to house slippers, Zachery called out.

Normally, Beth would welcome him. But today, she wasn't there bearing her bright smile. Thus, Zachery knitted his brows and he looked around the small bungalow where the two of them lived.

"Beth?" Seeing that she wasn't in the living area, Zachery called once again as he went to their room before going to the kitchen area but to no avail.

Alarmed, Zachery's anxiety slowly enveloped his heart and jogged through the door towards the small garden. He wished, from the bottom of his heart, that his fiancee would be there. He wouldn't know what to do if Beth wasn't there.

"Beth!"

As soon as Zachery opened the door, he heaved a sigh of relief seeing her watering the plants. She was wearing a white dress, her black hair waved down past her shoulders

Startled by Zachery's panic-stricken tone, Beth jolted slightly as she turned her head around. "Oh, you're home?"

"God… you worry me." Out of breath from the anxiousness that weighed him down for a moment, Zachery exhaled another heavy sigh as he made his way towards the garden.

Beth grinned brightly, giggling seeing his complexion. If she didn't know him well, she would think he ran a mile.

"You arrived early. I didn't expect that you would come home this early." Beth placed down the watering can as she met Zachery midway.

As soon as they came in contact with each other, Beth hooked her slender arms around his neck and beamed him a loving smile.

"I'm sorry for worrying you." She said softly, leaving a peck on the tip of his nose.

Zachery wrapped his arms around her slender waist, frowning as he rested his forehead against hers.

"Really… I thought something happened." He uttered under his breath.

Beth chuckled as she felt his hand rub her back. She closed her eyes as she moved her head sideways so the tip of their nose rubbed against each other lightly.

"Something like your family bribing me?"

"Haha… something like that." Zachery let out a low chuckle at her humor.

"Well, I'm basically the bad person for loving a married man." Beth drew away, still smiling despite the painful fact of the situation they lived in.

Although Beth didn't mean to ruin a marriage, it just… happened. She knew her relationship and love towards him was a sin. But, no matter how she fought against her heart, she just couldn't let go.

Beth loved this man as much as he loved him. She was sorry for hurting his wife, but she just couldn't stop. A terrible couple; people would see them as such, but that didn't matter to her.

"Beth…"

"Let's not sugarcoat it, Mister Kwan." Before Zachery could comfort her, Beth placed her hand in front of his lips with a smile on her face. "Anyway, I have a surprise for you!"

Beth added excitedly. Zachery frowned as he thought it was just a diversion. Little did he know, Beth truly had a surprise for him that would mark one of the best days of his life.

Beth guided Zachery towards the kitchen. She would constantly look back at him and giggle while Zachery languidly shook his head sideways.

"I baked something for you!" She exclaimed, making him raise his brows and nod. "Get it for me!"

She added and pushed him lightly. Puzzled, Zachery still did what he was instructed. In his mind, she probably baked a new recipe and she wanted him to try it first.

Yet, part of him argued because Beth wouldn't do that. If she truly baked something new, she would have welcomed him with it in her hand so he could taste it before entering the house. That was what kind of character Beth had and was something he found really endearing about her.

When Zachery was in front of the oven, he cocked his head to Beth's direction bearing a nonchalant look. On the other hand, Beth was clasping her hands before she gestured for him to continue.

He rolled his eyes, briefly wagging his brows as he proceeded to open the oven. To his bafflement, Zachery furrowed his brows as he took out a large tray with a bun in the middle.

Slowly, he turned to Beth who had her lips stretched from ear to ear. Zachery darted his eyes from the tray and back to her with confusion filling his eyes.

"A bun?"

"Uh huh!"

"Oh…" Still not getting the meaning of it, Zachery cocked his head to the side. "I should eat it…?"

He asked, uncertain of what to do. There must be something in it that made it special. Thus, without thinking too much, Zachery had a bite. Unfortunately, it tasted like a normal bun they used to buy from the favorite store they always go to.

"The Estrel's?" As he chewed, he mentioned the restaurant's name. "Does it mean, we don't have to buy a bun from them since you copied the taste of their buns?"

He asked, concluding the reason she was too excited about. To his dismay, Beth rolled her eyes as her excited front instantly turned into a poker face.

"Hmm? Did I say something wrong?" Baffled at what displeased his beloved, Zachery walked closer and placed the bun back on the tray and then put it over the kitchen counter.

"I bought it from them. Gosh… how can you be so dense?" Beth mocked flatly as she peered at him from head to toe.

"What? I'm dense?"

"Hon, it's a bun!" Beth exclaimed in distress. She surely didn't expect that she had to explain this to him.

"I know! It's a bun and I guessed it right! From Estrel!"

"Hah!" Beth took a step back as she crossed her arms. "It's a bun, honey. Inside the oven! A bun inside the oven!"

Zachery furrowed his brows for a moment, absorbing her words before realization hit him. His expression gradually shifted from confusion to utter shock, speechlessness, and every other emotion into one.

"You… you're…"

"Yes!" Beth nodded and exclaimed in distress. She watched him take a moment as he took a step back without saying a word.

When he looked at her once again, her heart melted seeing his eyes welling up. "You're pregnant? Is this real?"

He asked, walking to her as he held on her shoulder. Zachery gazed down to her still flat tummy before looking up again.

"We are.." Satisfied with his reaction, Beth smiled as she placed a kiss on his lips.
