Zoey and Enzo witnessed the sudden shift of the man's mien. He was scared and surprised.
"Jack and King?' Zoey wondered internally. 'Like the deck of cards?'
Zoey tilted her head, knitting her brows as she was trying to figure out which organization had the same hierarchy. However, it was hard to figure out on her own without asking for clarification from her darling.
After all, she hadn't been updated nor did she have any interest in the underground world. The second she cut her ties with the Silva Family, Zoey didn't want anything to do with the underground world.
Even in her previous life, Zoey had her eyes only on Inigo. Therefore, she didn't have time to figure out other organizations.
'Jack and King…' Again, Zoey muttered internally. Still, deep down, this reminded her of Inigo's previous alias Joker.
'Ha! That's impossible. Just a coincidence, maybe?' Zoey chuckled inwardly and threw the thought at the back of her head.
"What the…" Under his breath, Enzo darted his eyes from Matthew to the man who literally pointed a gun on his head.
"Jack will know where to go. You may go." Matthew waved nonchalantly before turning his head back towards the three drunkards.
"Ay ay! Move and keep that toy away. That's dangerous." Suddenly, Owen's voice came in as he trudged inside the private lounge.
Owen glanced at the man whom he assumed to be the underboss of these men. By the time they noticed that something was amiss, all of Matthew's men had surrounded the area.
Fortunately, before coming in here, Matthew's men outside had already figured out which organization was in the same place as Matthew. Therefore, although they didn't lower their guard, they were certain that they wouldn't touch Matthew or anyone else in this establishment.
The man glanced at Owen's side. He didn't know Owen, but his guts told him it would be dangerous for everyone to offend these men with Zoey.
'Just who is this Zhou Zoey to be with such a formidable and powerful man?!' The man grumbled as he gritted his teeth.
They were ordered to escort Zoey to meet their boss. Obviously, they executed the orders without a question as they had already received the necessary information.
They were aware that she had a smart-mouth and was shrouded with mystery. One could say she was merely acting bravely or she was a capable individual. Still, against many of them, they could subdue her if she was just one.
But, the tides had turned against their favor and they realized that they had come in at the wrong time. They would be just courting death if they fought these people head on.'
"Do you have any evidence to prove that you're truly the king?" Yet, for the last time, the man wanted to affirm that they weren't being duped.
"No, you don't need it." Without looking back, Matthew replied before casting Zoey a glance.
"Tch." Owen let out a brief chuckle. "Do you want to go home alone just to get reassurance, do you?"
Owen smirked. The man gulped, staring straight at Matthew's spokesperson. The second the man absorbed Owen's words, he already understood the threat underlying the former's statement.
After all, they didn't need everyone to return just to pass a message. They only needed one man to relay the order of the king. This imperious mien, unbending confidence, and indifference at the situation solidified Matthew's claims.
"Then, we will take our leave. But, if you guys turn out to be bluffing, you'll regret it." The man warned, staring at Owen sternly.
Owen shrugged his shoulders. The man then glanced at Mattthew's back while he was talking to Zoey.
This made the man grit his teeth before he beckoned his men and he stormed away. When they were gone, Owen raised his brow and stretched his neck to see if they left completely.
"What did Jack's men want?" He asked, shifting his attention to Matthew.
"It's something you did." Matthew answered, casting Zoey a knowing look.
Zoey furrowed her brows. She pointed her finger at her, "My doing?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.
"You'll know tomorrow. For now, we have to take these three back to my place."
"Wait! How is it something that I did? Also, why are you also taking this girl? Enzo can take her to the nearest hotel!" Zoey argued in urgency, baffled and surprised.
"I owe her." Matthew cast Zoey a side eye.
"You owe her?" Zoey knitted her brows, confused regarding what Katherine Quin might have done that Matthew was indebted to her.
"Your friend… that guy is not the person who would let things end up like that. I hurt his pride and his desire to prove that even if he was in someone else's territory heightened. If not for this girl, we wouldn't be having this conversation."
In a matter-of-fact tone, Matthew explained. As Zoey listened, she nodded her head ever so slowly.
"You owe her because she interrupted his plans?"
"Although that guy wants to establish his superiority, he wouldn't act rashly. He is not a fool to gamble with a lower chance of winning. This girl just spoiled all his plans. He'll target her for sure."
Matthew added. Zoey remained silent for a moment, nodding her head in understanding. Although Zoey didn't want to acknowledge Katherine, she owed her.
After all, Zoey wouldn't have a problem dealing with Nikolai. But, with Zion with her, it would be a lot troublesome. Chances were, Zoey would be forced to accept Nikolai's condition to save Zion.
"Aiya… that bastard." Zoey clicked her tongue, grinding her teeth as her eyes glinted with killing intent.
"Owen, tell everyone we are going home to my main residence. We can't let anyone tailing us to that place." Matthew ordered as he glanced at Owen.
Owen sported a conflicted expression as he scratched the back of his head. "How about him?"
Upon Owen's question, Matthew moved his gaze where Owen was pointing. Zoey also shifted her eyes to Enzo's confused visage.
"Right. I almost forgot about him." Zoey muttered.
When Matthew's eyes landed on Enzo, their eyes instantly locked with each other. Momentarily, Matthew remained silent as he pondered over what was a good decision for him.
"I'll go home. Tell Brother Kev he shouldn't drink too much." After some time, Enzo proposed as he didn't want anything to do with Matthew or Zoey at the moment.
Everything came too abruptly and deep down, it was too much for him to handle. Enzo respected Matthew despite knowing the latter's nature. However, something within him, especially after receiving such 'unjust' abhorrence from Zoey, felt insulted.
With that being said, Enzo forced his feet to move. He barely took a step with his knees trembling.
"No. You'll come with us." Just as Enzo took three steps away, he halted upon hearing Matthew's commanding tone.
"I don't understand your sudden shift of attitude. I don't have any interest in knowing either. But, you will come with us."
Matthew added. Enzo's expression instantly changed to dismay. Zoey's as well.
"What?" Zoey and Enzo asked in unison.
"Why are you taking him with us? Your cousin is a busy man on his road to stardom!" Zoey exclaimed in disbelief.
"Don't I have a say into this? I won't tattle you to Auntie Xi." Enzo reassured before letting out a light scoff.
"I'm already at war, if you two can't understand that. The least I want during this time is giving my enemy an opportunity to manipulate the people I care to betray me." Cold and flat, Matthew stressed his words as he darted his glinting eyes from Zoey to Enzo.
This was not Zoey's war anymore. Matthew had already taken full responsibility with everything that was going on.. Therefore, it was just a matter of time before a full scale war would take place.
