The flight was four hours long. To everyone's relief… or not. Just when they thought that Vivian was considerate enough not to change the location of the wedding, she did!
Instead of just a close country, she chose an island recently bought by the Xis. It wasn't that isolated, but it sure was a private island that only the Xi Family could enjoy if they wanted to relax.
Zoey, Matthew, Zion, Paul, Owen, Carter, and Cora stood in front of the huge beachfront mansion. Every single one of them had only bought what was on their body.
But that wasn't a problem. Why? Because in front of the mansion were tons of servants lined up, bowing as a welcome to them.
Zoey looked from her left to her right. Well, they all didn't plan to do this, but they were already here, anyway.
So, Zoey took a deep breath and took several steps forward. Slowly, she turned and faced their blank faces.
"Z, you know I love you, right? But, I promised a mass release to my readers tonight." Cora sighed, exasperatedly. "I'm still stockpiling so I don't have to worry about my daily releases for your wedding."
"Yes, Assistant Yi. I passed the complete guest list. Yes, thank you" Paul was talking into his phone upon noticing it was just them who had arrived.
"Well, Madam Xi surely just does whatever she wants." Zion murmured, not totally pissed as he had grown to accept that they were all here.
"My boss is getting married. What do you mean by 'the deal is off', Young Master Sun?" Matthew's eyes glinted, talking to Richard Sun who had become Z Image Group's partner recently. "Sure. But I hope you're prepared to pay the fine for breaching the contract."
Zoey watched everyone who were still busy worrying about what they had left behind. They were all busy people who excelled in their career. Thus, she understood that this unexpected turn of events which weren't in their schedules was a headache.
Alas…
"Everyone!" Zoey clapped her hands loudly to catch their attention. As soon as she did, Paul and Matthew, who were busy on their phones, glanced at her.
Then they hung up after bidding a quick and polite farewell. When all their attention was on her, Zoey gritted her teeth and sucked air through it.
"Since we're all here, let's all drop the stress about anything and everything, and enjoy ourselves. We've been living super busy in the past year and I think Mom is right. We should take this time as a break from all the stress we have in real life." Zoey remarked as she cast everyone a look.
Matthew rocked his head back and forth as he shoved his phone inside his suit pocket. "Makes sense. We all need a break."
"You're just saying that because my sister said it." Zion humored as he shot Matthew a look. The latter just shrugged his shoulders.
Even though it was their wedding, Matthew and Zoey were already content. Also, whatever Zoey wanted, Matthew would follow her like what a true 'fool-in-love' would do.
"Well, it makes sense. I've been writing everyday for the past year without a day's break." Cora frowned but nodded in agreement.
"So we can enjoy a drink or two? Maybe four?" Owen raised a question which caught their attention. "What? It's a party, isn't it? Boss?"
Carter then shot Zoey a look and added, "Maybe five?"
They didn't have to look at Matthew for permission. All three of them, — four, including Paul — were working for Zoey now. Matthew's only perks were that he's the husband.
"It's a party. Miss Zhou, I mean, Zoey, is not my boss today. Let's get wild, boys!" Paul chimed in and spoke words not many would hear.
"Hell yeah!" Owen clapped his hands excitedly, finding something more interesting to do after working tirelessly for the past year.
"Yes! It's a party!" Zoey nodded as she grinned.
Although they are employer and employee, their relationship was far stronger than that. Their relationship at work might be different, but out of work, they're all friends who enjoy a couple of drinks every so often.
"You hear that, Boss Matt? What do you like? Beer? Rum? Wine? We're living life today!" Owen glided to Matthew's side, elbowing him lightly as his brows moved in an up and down motion.
Even Matthew, who was their previous boss, had been their friend. Still, although they are nothing but friends and colleagues now, they still called him boss out of habit.
"I like… Zoey." Matthew blankly replied.
"Aish… wait for the wedding night!" Owen clicked his tongue as he cast Matthew a look of disdain.
The chuckles followed. Gradually, they had forgotten their worries as they all joked around and relaxed. Well, who wouldn't? It's free and knowing Vivian, she wouldn't leave the Z Image Group and Zion's clinic unattended just like that.
The Xi Corporation, even without Matthew leading it, had been steadily flourishing and progressing with Vivian back on the throne.
As they headed inside, all of them halted as they heard a loud roaring rotor from above. Instinctively, they all turned around to see a chopper flying over them to the Mansion's helipad.
"Who are they?" Zion cocked his head to the side. They all came from a plane. So, they had to land on another island and ride a boat going there.
"Is it Ryan and Ivan?"
Zion added. As soon as he did, he raised his brow and glanced at Cora who suddenly froze.
"Don't mind them. They will show themselves later. Let's go inside!" Zoey beckoned and they all resumed.
"Are you okay?" While they trudged in, Zion walked beside Cora and asked.
Cora raised her head and offered a subtle smile. "Of course. It's been a year."
"Are you sure?" Zion asked once again. Cora bit her lip as she remained silent.
"I am." Cora pouted as she elbowed Zion. "You worry too much about me. How did your last date go?"
"It was terrible." Zion muttered flatly which made Cora chuckle.
During this past year, Cora and Zion had become great friends. Still, both of them knew they were nothing more than that.
Still, deep down, a question remained at the back of Cora's head.
Would she be able to face Ivan after a year?
