Chapter 160 - Our Ending Is Not Part Of This Story

"Hey, I think your sister thinks you are crazy." Ghost Lin muttered while he cupped her cheek, floating over his body. She glanced at the door and it shut closed when Gabriella rushed outside.

"She really thinks you are," she mumbled as she caught Gabriella's expression.

"Am I not?" Quentin chuckled dryly, still staring at her. Although he was drunk, seeing her sobered him up a little.

"Imagining you are here with me... I think I'm crazy too."

Ghost Lin pressed her lips together and let out a sharp exhale.. She floated to his side and laid beside him, lying on her side with the bottom of her palm propped against her temple.

"No, no, no!" she slapped his shoulder although it didn't hurt the slightest. "You are not crazy! I am actually here, alright?! Me, the real Lin Devon! The one and only!"

Quentin chuckled as he stared at her with loving eyes. This was the Devon he knew, not unlike that Devon he met in the coffee shop earlier today. But he believed he was just imagining the old her, brash yet charming in her own way.

"What are you smiling about? You don't believe me? Should I lift my shirt and flash you?"

He closed his eyes suddenly, shaking his head. "I didn't have that perverted thoughts."

Ghost Lin frowned. She was joking! But well, she realized Quentin believed that everything she was saying was just the words he wanted to hear from her.

"Gosh... I didn't think you really change," she mumbled, staring at him as watched how his eyes opened slowly. "You surprised me."

"Why? Did you think I will hold on to you? Did you think I will rush back and pick a fight on Dion?"

"Well..." Ghost Lin shrugged, as that was what the Quentin she knew would do. He was the jealous type, and he got jealous so easily. So, seeing Quentin leave with his sister was something that surprised her.

"You have this little faith in me, huh?"

"You don't even trust yourself. How the hell do you expect me to trust you?"

Her remarks made sense, causing him to nod in agreement. When Quentin raised his hand to her and forced himself to her, he had lost his trust in himself. That was why he couldn't date properly, because he was still in love with her and he didn't trust himself anymore.

In the back of his head, there was this fear that he might hurt his next lover if he took them seriously. He considered his heart, his way of loving someone, as dangerous and destructive.

"Hey," called Ghost Lin and waited for their eyes to meet. "You should listen to your sister."

"I am listening to her."

"You're not." She shook her head lightly. "You have to listen to her properly this time. Forget, heal, and move on. Devon is engaged and she will get married soon."

"I know." His eyes softened as the corner of his lips curled up bitterly. "You are getting married. Did you like to have children now?"

"No." Her answer was quick, as having a child was the least Ghost Lin wanted. "But that Devon might want to. She is that type of person, you know?"

"Right... you've changed, after all."

Ghost Lin took a deep breath and closed her eyes momentarily. Devon and Ghost Lin were two different souls. The one he knew was right in front of him, while the one was just the new tenant of her body. She couldn't blame him, though. Actually, she was in awe that Quentin could make this situation logical.

"You also looked so happy." Quentin sprawled his arm towards her, cupping her cheek while staring into her eyes. "I'm happy for you, Dev. Really. I'm relieved that you are not as miserable as I am."

"You're the one who really changed. Just stay being trash."

Another wave of chuckles escaped his mouth. "Why? Do you want me to abduct you and lock you up?"

"Hey, I'm kidding!" she gasped, staring at him in horror. How could he joke about that with a smile on his face? No. The scariest part was, Quentin could do such a thing!

"I'm joking," he laughed softly, shaking his head. "Anyway, I think this is the last time I will see you."

Ghost Lin suddenly froze. Did he guess that her days as the ghost were numbered? That any moment, she would disappear? The reason Ghost Lin was with him was to bid her farewell. Actually, she accompanied Devon first when she was in the coffee shop, but Devon couldn't see her.

She only followed Quentin when he left the coffee shop, curious about what he would do next. And now she was here with him instead of spending her time with her grandfather. Well, not that she regretted coming in here because Quentin could see and hear her whenever he was drunk.

"I know," she replied in a low tone.

"I will forget about you after this night," he affirmed in the same tone, making her hum a low tune. "After tonight, I will let you go and move on with my life."

"That's good."

"So before that, I want to love you just a bit more tonight."

Ghost Lin pressed her lips into a thin line, watching the ocean of brine form from the corner of his eyes. She couldn't cry with him, so she stayed silent. It was good that Quentin had finally got the courage to forget about her. He was hurt, but he was aware of where he was wrong and slowly accepted it.

"Thank you, Ken." Her voice cracked as the back of her hand tried to wipe his tears streaming across the bridge of his nose. "Thank you for not forgetting about me until now. But it's time to let the old rope go and stop hurting yourself."

A bitter smile appeared on her lips, as she could only use her words. She could neither wipe his tears nor console him with an embrace. So, she wanted to be honest with him, since that was the only thing she could do.

"I forgave you, so forgive yourself, hmm?" Her bitter smile stretched wider, slightly. "In our next life, let's learn our mistakes here and live happily together. That dumpling said there's a chance that two souls can meet in the same world again."

Ghost Lin paused while thinking of Kween's explanation about the cycle of life. It wasn't much, but she wanted to meet Quentin once again.

"Our ending is not part of this story, Ken," she added reassuringly. "I will surely find you, no matter where your soul goes. So, I won't say sorry about anything anymore. I will tell them to you once we meet again."

Quentin remained silent and just listened to all the nonsense she was spewing. Still, it touched his heart. He couldn't understand the soul she was talking about or where they would meet, but he didn't dwell on it. He would forget about it tomorrow, anyway.

"For now, protect my body, alright?" Ghost Lin raised her brows and leaned forward. "Don't sleep! You have to promise!"

Quentin just blinked his heavy eyes and hummed. "Sure."

"Promise! That woman's brother is a fucking psycho!" Ghost Lin attempted to shake him awake, as this was important to her. She wanted to tell Devon about Julian, but that woman couldn't see her anymore. So now that it suddenly crossed her, Quentin might help her out for a bit.

"I promise."

"Is that how you promise?! I'm doubting its sincerity!"

"You are always an expert at killing the mood, huh?" he grumbled lazily, sniffing hard as he wiped his tears with his arm. Quentin then rolled until he was lying on his back and set his eyes on the ceiling.

"Just go away now. I will sleep."

"Hey! Didn't you say you will love me a bit more tonight?" Her face hovered over his face, not letting him look just anywhere else than her face.

"I did, but I doubt you are in danger. It makes more sense that your brothers and sisters who you call little shits to be in danger from you."

Ghost Lin's face distorted. Right. Even though Quentin was a bit drunk, he knew the Lin Family like it was written on the back of his hand. She had been slandering them at every chance she got after all.

"No, not them! I mean, Qin Julian! He is a freaking psycho, you get me?" she exclaimed while he frowned.

Since she wouldn't leave him alone, Quentin closed his eyes. "I dislike that second young master of the Qin. He is more annoying than that Lewis."

"Gosh! I'm saying this not because you unconsciously think about your dissatisfaction with the Qin!" Ghost Lin harrumphed in distress, desperate that he could at least consider this conversation.

"Hey, hey! Just open your eyes for the last time!

A deep sigh slipped past him as he weakly opened his eyes. Her face immediately came into sight, sporting that expression she used to do whenever she was bothered.

"What?" he asked with a frown.

"Just listen to me, okay?" she dawdled, and he nodded after a second. "Qin Julian is a dangerous fellow. He is obsessed with his sister — I mean, with me! I am in danger, Ken! No, not just me. You are in danger too since you're wearing his face! Do you understand?"

Ghost Lin widened her eyes, waiting for his confirmation. Quentin, indeed, listened but didn't take it into the heart.

"Yes."

"Good!"

Little did Quentin know, Gabriella was just standing outside his room. Her back against the door, listening to her brother talking alone.
