Chapter 10:Why would I climb your bed if you already do that?

Unlike what she had expected, Lewis didn't dress her, just like how her maidservant dressed her. Instead, he showed her how to put on the shirt and pants whilst the hospital gown still on her.

"You understand?" He queried, taking a step back, his knuckles on his lean waist.

Devon nodded in silence. These clothes were rather easy to wear. Unlike the layers of clothes she used to wear.

"Now, go. Don't forget to take off the hospital gown." Lewis sighed as he cocked his head in the bathroom's direction.

Devon quickly scurried towards the bathroom. When she closed the door behind her, Lewis wobbled down on the edge of the bed.

"How can she change in front of a man? Did she really lose it?" He mumbled, wondering at her well-being.

"Can she actually live alone in this situation?"

Lewis let out a distressed sigh. No, she wouldn't.

From his observation so far, Devon didn't even know about television and smart phones. She was like a toddler. Everything seemed new to her.

Not to mention Devon seemed she didn't know herself. Now, this was a stressful responsibility for him which he had been avoiding to face when the problem resurfaced.

"I'll figure it out later." He mumbled.

Soon Devon exited the bathroom. Her hair was tucked inside her shirt. Fortunately, Lewis had chosen Devon's usual comfort clothes.

If he bought her a dress — which he would never, knowing her — that would be a problem for the both of them.

"Your hair," Lewis gestured, waving at his shoulder.

"Oh!" Fortunately, she understood him and freed her hair from the shirt.

After that, Devon marched towards him. She offered a giddy smile as she stood in front of him.

"How do I look, my lord?"

"Ha ha!" In disbelief, Lewis couldn't help but let out a force laugh.

But his reaction made her frown. Her fingers clasped the rear of her sweatpants as she gazed down.

'That's not the answer I seek.'

"Christ…" Lewis sighed as he scratched his temple with his finger.

He didn't want to sound rude. However, she just sounded so proud, as if she was wearing an elegant dress for a date.

Thus, Lewis was in utter disbelief he couldn't help but laugh. Or rather, this entire ordeal made him feel like he was starring in a comedy show. It's laughable.

Yet, her dejected reaction made him regret laughing.

"Lying, or rather, playing with words, is a part of my nature. I can compliment you while thinking the complete opposite. You look what you think you look like." He shook his head lightly.

"So, I look bad in it?"

Lewis nearly choked at her probing question. Did he have to spell it aloud?

"Not entirely. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Again, Lewis had lost count of how many sighs that left his lips.

Surely, it had broken his record, as he never sighed this much.

"Do I look ugly in your eyes?" Yet Devon's query kept pushing him to the edge.

"Like I said…" Lewis trailed off as he leaned back. His palms on the mattress while his eyes on her.

"You want to know the truth?" He arched his brow.

Devon nodded as an answer. Well, that's why she was asking. She wanted to know what he thought about her.

"Hmm." Lewis stared at her from head to toe.

To be truthfully honest, Lewis never considered Devon as a woman, nor did he ever studied her thoroughly thinking she was. But now that she asked. He had to parse his thoughts about her as a woman.

"Not my type." As brutal as he could, Lewis shrugged his shoulder. "You don't look bad. It's just, I don't think I'd ever see you romantically."

To his surprised, Devon grinned excitedly upon hearing his honest answer.

"Really?" she asked as she glided in front of him.

Without thinking twice, she slammed her palms on his rear, leaning her head forward, which made him lean back to create distance.

"What… what are you doing?" Lewis stammered for the first time in his life.

Her face was only a palm-length away from him. Her eyes twinkling like never before.

"Are you absolute, my lord?" She exclaimed, giddily.

"I, uh… of course — I mean, certainly."

"Great!" Devon grinned as she drew back. If Lewis didn't find her attractive, there're less chances he would in the future.

In that case, Devon wouldn't need to worry about him or whatever romantic feelings from him. Romance was something she didn't want to deal with right now.

She's fine with sleeping with him or holding his hand as he sleeps. It actually made her feel useful. Also, Lewis seemed he wasn't a bad person. She actually wanted to befriend him. It's his honor being a royal friend.

As Lewis watched her reaction, he arched his brow. 'Did I assume wrong?' He wondered.

By the looks of it, it seemed he did assume wrong. He thought she was sulking because he laughed at her. But it seemed she kept pressing because she was trying to know his honest thoughts about her.

This made the corner of his lips stretch into a subtle smile. Lewis was rarely wrong about people.

But not only she forced out an honest answer from him. But also, she proved him wrong.

"Well, that's interesting, my lady." Lewis nodded, pleased at his defeat. "Are you that happy that I won't like you romantically?"

Devon nodded without a second hesitation. "I would like you to be my friend."

"Why would I climb your bed if you already do that, my friend?" Devon tilted her head, thinking his statement made little sense.

"…"

Momentarily, her remarks rendered him speechless. He scoffed, not expecting to hear that from her.

When he recovered, he chuckled. "Touche."

Yet Devon only raised her brows innocently.

"I always think you lack character. Seems like I was wrong." Lewis assisted himself up as she hopped back.

When he stood back on his feet, he cast her a look.

"Just make sure you purely want to be my friend and not my girlfriend." He smirked. "Let's go, my friend."

With that being said, Lewis trudged towards the door. Meanwhile, Devon furrowed her brows.

"Am I not called his female friend yet?" She murmured, following in his tracks.
