Chapter 70 - I'm My Own World

Meanwhile, Devon and Ghost Lin entered the apartment after Dion dropped them off. As Devon changed her footwear into house slippers, she gazed at Ghost Lin's back, who was floating ahead of her.

"Uhm, Ghost Lin," Devon called awkwardly, biting her lip as she watched Ghost Lin turned around.

"What?" asked Ghost Lin with a frown on her face.

"About… that man," Devon said, taking off another shoe before slipping her feet inside the house slippers. "I think I'm prepared to hear your relationship with him."

"You mean Quen… you mean that son of a bitch?"

Devon pursed her lips in a thin line as she nodded. Her brief walk outside with Dion and Ghost Lin helped alleviate her mood. Devon thought, if she wouldn't face this problem now, she might meet him unexpectedly, with no ammo.

"Sure. Come." Ghost Lin floated towards the living room while Devon dragged her feet behind her. When Devon plopped down on the couch, she faced Ghost Lin, who seemed more exhausted than her despite just floating around, just like what a normal ghost does.

Devon prepared her heart and mind, facing Ghost Lin squarely. "I will try to listen."

"Nah, you should listen carefully." Ghost Lin waved indifferently, sitting mid-air in front of her.

"I don't know where to start, but whatever. This Quentin I know is someone I met abroad. I studied there for just a few months just because I don't want to breathe the same air as my family. We became good friends, quickly, just like how sleepy Qin and I met — we clicked." Ghost Lin snapped her finger as she tilted her head to the side.

"You already know this. My mood had expiry dates, but at that time, the expiry dates of my moods were longer. So, I entertained him since he's a good fella and fun to talk to. Obviously, I had to return to this goddamn country and breathe the same air as those little shits in that house." Ghost Lin seethed as she tried not to get sidetracked by her hatred. Devon frowned, hoping Ghost Lin to get a hold of herself.

"When I return here, I was surprised that that guy followed me all the way here as an exchanged student. I don't know if that was good or bad, but we remain friends, until, I flirted with him."

"You?" Devon gasped in dismay, gazing at Ghost Lin in dismay. "You put this upon yourself?"

"I was bored, okay? I know it's wrong, but I'm was still young back then and it's obvious he was into me." Ghost Lin rolled her eyes as it was not her fault she's a catch. "So, we ended up dating. He's cute and considerate to the point it was fucking boring!"

Devon frowned as she cringed every time Ghost Lin cursed. "Can you stop cursing? It is truly unladylike."

"Hey, you already have my body and life. Why do you want to take away my freedom to speak the way I want to?" It was a valid argument from Ghost Lin, so Devon could just purse her lips in a thin line.

Ghost Lin rolled her eyes at her. "Back to the story. We dated, he's so kind and considerate, I got bored, but I didn't dump him. Instead, I tried to find something in him that will keep me interested. Who wouldn't want a good man, right?"

"Correct. You're much sensible than I thought." Devon nodded approvingly.

"Tsk." Ghost Lin clicked her tongue as she glanced at her. "I found out two things." She raised her two fingers. "First is, he is really good-looking. His smile makes me think he's an angel. I freaking thought he's actually my guardian angel!"

Devon frowned, disappointed. Ghost Lin sounded to her as if she only cared about a person's looks. Looks could be deceiving. That was why Devon learned how to look at a person's heart through their eyes.

"Second is, he is an angel, but a damned fallen one at that." Ghost Lin clicked her tongue and put her finger in front of her ear, moving it in a circular motion as she added, "he's a fucking lunatic."

"A lunatic?" Devon raised her brows, not surprised about it since the Quentin she knew was a lunatic on top of being too obsessive and possessive. But she was curious how Ghost Lin called him that, although Ghost Lin called everyone's name.

"Yes! I only realized that after a year and a half of being together. Our relationship was as toxic as hell because of his constant jealousy over petting things. I mean, it's sweet that your man is jealousy, but not all the fucking time. The relationship went from bad to worse."

"So?" Devon held her breath as that time she declined the Quentin in her previous life, he did despicable things afterward.

"He started putting me under surveillance, watched each of my movements, checks my phone, and just everything! He didn't give me enough room to breathe, nor did he ever asked for my opinion. In other words, he thinks he owns me, alright? In the end, I snapped."

"You… snapped?"

"Mhm! I went into a full-blown cray cray and that motherfucker also just unveiled his mask. Do I have to tell you the details? Just let your imagination run wild, but know that I'm not the one who doesn't fight back."

Devon remained silent for a moment before she asked, "Did he... harm you?" Her eyes studying Ghost Lin as the latter just opened her mouth but said nothing.

"Just one time and that is when we broke up." Ghost Lin laid on her side, looking very idle while lying midair. Devon studied the brief glint in Ghost Lin's eyes, and she could tell something about it.

"Ghost Lin," Devon called under her breath, mustering the courage to ask her another question. "Did you... love him?"

Ghost Lin didn't answer immediately as she locked her gaze with Devon. "He bores me to death, but I wouldn't stick with him if I didn't," she bluntly replied.. "I really loved him at one point and even thought it'll be nice if we had our happily ever after, but obviously, that is impossible because I'm his world, and I'm my own world."
