Chapter 72 - Potential ML

Devon smiled as she slowly drew away from him, resting her hand on his hip while she raised her head to face him.

"Welcome back," she greeted with a bright smile. "Have you eaten?"

Lewis blinked his eyes as he stared at her lovingly. How could he not fall for her? He felt like a family man returning home with his sweet wife welcoming him warmly, and his fatigue all gone.

"No." He shook his head lightly. "I came straight from my meeting. Have you had dinner?"

"I was waiting for you." Well, Devon wasn't lying when she said she was waiting for him, as she refused Dion's invitation to dinner because of this. "Mrs. Agnes already prepared something. Do you want me to heat it up?"

"Mhm, sure." Lewis nodded and smiled at her, stroking her hair gently,

"Alright!" Devon exclaimed before she hastily broke away from him to reheat the food Agnes made before she clocked out.

Lewis watched her back and let out a deep sigh. Instead of taking off his shoes, Lewis raised his arm against the wall and rested his forehead on it with his eyes closed.

"Now I don't know if I'm excited to go to work just to get this kind of welcome, or just stay with her," He mumbled in distress, his ears burning as her actions just rendered him flustered so easily.

'I don't want to misunderstand, but I really want to.' He thought to himself, knowing Devon was merely doing this with no romantic intentions. She was surely torturing him in the sweetest way.

"I need a cold shower," he muttered, changing his shoes to house slippers as he marched directly towards their bedroom to shower.

"Hey, I told you to express yourself, not force yourself!" Ghost Lin harrumphed while Devon busied herself around the kitchen.

"I'm not forcing myself," Devon replied, placing a bow inside the microwave before she cocked Ghost Lin with an innocent look. "I'm expressing myself."

"Expressing yourself? So, you wanted to hug him like that?" Ghost Lin narrowed her eyes suspiciously as if she would detect it if Devon lied even the slightest.

"Yes." Devon nodded without a second hesitation. "I missed him. I'm relieved to see him, and I wanted to touch him. So I did."

"Wow…"

"In my previous life, I will have to keep my distance and mind my manners, but I don't think others believe you have any notion of what manners were. So I will shock no one if I acted shamelessly." Devon voiced out as it seemed it would surprise no one if Devon just do whatever she wanted.

"Heh. I'll take that as a compliment." Ghost Lin smirked cockily, her eyes brimming as it was a compliment for her.

Devon shook her head lightly. "It's not meant to be a compliment, but alright, you seem happy about it."

"Of course! Because I'm shameless. Those fake bitches don't even try to cross me or I'll mess them up." Ghost Lin's smug grin looked more suspicious, making Devon frown.

"Now that I think about it, should I expect a lot of enemies in this life?" Devon tilted her head to the side, blinking.

"Ahem! I don't think so."

Devon squinted her eyes suspiciously. "Will they try to harm me physically?"

"Why would they? I already showed them an example if they dared touch me again. So, if they didn't want their nose to break…" Ghost Lin bit her tongue as she realized Devon made her talk unconsciously.

"Ghost Lin."

"Alright! But you don't have to worry about them hurting you physically." Ghost Lin sighed heavily, shaking her head lightly. "Although they might try to harass you with words. If they did, just tell them to hold their tongue if they value their life."

Devon sighed helplessly as she chuckled weakly. "Your personality reminds me of someone I knew in the past." She only remembered it now after Ghost Lin uttered her last remarks.

"Really?"

"Yes. He always says 'hold your tongues if you value your life, which had been a very effective way to keep others from running their mouths." Devon smiled as her eyes softened, recalling that person in her life. "He is known for his cruelty, regarded as a cold-blooded monster, but he was surprisingly a very kind person."

"Really? Then, why did he die?"

Devon raised her brows. "How did you know that?"

"Because you look sad." Ghost Lin shrugged as it was written all over Devon's face.

Devon smiled, closed-lipped, and let out a deep exhale. "Quentin betrayed him and delivered his head to me."

"Wow… that guy is really something," Ghost Lin scrunched up her nose as she could imagine. "But, why did he deliver his head to you?"

"Because he's a dear friend of mine and his existence is a threat to the emperor's position," Devon replied, keeping it short as the microwave produced a sound when it was finished heating the food. She picked up the oven mitts before carrying the pot towards the table.

"Say, did you like that person?" Ghost Lin asked as she followed behind her. "I mean, did you like that person romantically?"

"I did," Devon answered before she faced Ghost Lin. "But my greed cost him his life… just like how you sacrificed your life for me."

"What? Am I a potential ML now?" Ghost Lin floated away, covering her chest as she cast her a suspicious look. "I like guys, just so you know."

Devon chuckled. "What blasphemy are you talking about? You just remind me of him because the more I think about it, you have the same personality. You're like… siblings."

"Hey, what "blasphemy" are you talking about?" Ghost Lin immediately flew in front of Devon, agitated. "In this world, love is accepted in any shape and form. Anyone is free to love anyone regardless of gender or age, alright?! It's not a curse or anything bad like that!"

"Oh." Devon nodded, drawing away slightly. "I misspoke, then. My apologies."

"Hmph!"

"Are you… talking to someone?" Lewis inquired as soon as he entered the dining hall, looking around, only to see Devon standing beside the table.

"No, I'm talking to myself." Devon smiled. Well, she was, indeed, talking to herself in another way, since Ghost Lin shared the same face as her.

"Come, let's eat!" she invited as she rushed to get the other dishes to serve on the table.

"Uh, alright?" Lewis nodded, finding zero, as in ZERO, faults that he heard her speaking alone on his way there.
