Chapter 128 - I Am Sorry

"Quentin..." she whispered, catching Lewis' attention. "... he looks like Quentin, Lu. He looks just like my brother Quentin... and she looks like me."

Lewis furrowed his brows. "Looks like your brother, and you?"

Devon pursed her lips and squeezed herself into him. It was a strange and scary feeling whenever she recalled what transpired today. Seeing Quentin's face without being dragged or without them trying to kill each other with words.

Actually, that wasn't what strange. Quentin smiled at her — at Gabriella and she also smiled back at him. They looked like they had a good relationship. It was… unreal.

"Never mind," she murmured.

"Will you tell me if I asked you?" he inquired under his breath, casually stroking her back. "I'm worried, and I don't know what to do, Dev."

There was a long silence between them as Devon just gazed down. How was she supposed to explain it to him? It was a long story and recalling it just brought all the traumatic feelings she had endured. Not that she didn't trust Lewis, it was just… hard for her to explain it in words.

Healing from something that ruined her in her previous life was easier said than done.

"I won't ask, but whenever you're ready, I'm all ears." Lewis let out a sigh, as he didn't want to force her. He wasn't even sure if he was ready for it as well. There could be details that might trigger him to just go off and kill anyone.

"Thank you, Lu," Devon smiled weakly, melting into his embrace. "I'm always grateful that you are here with me."

She couldn't imagine what her life would be if she transmigrated into another person's body. Although she still felt bad for Ghost Lin, she was grateful for being able to love and be loved by Lewis. He was just so understanding — just what she had needed in life.

Support.

Meanwhile, Ghost Lin narrowed her eyes as she stared at Quentin. He was just alone on the balcony with a glass of wine in his hand. Staring at the city that was busier even during at night.

"What are the odds that you and that girl who is wearing my face stayed in the same hotel?" Ghost Lin shook her head in disbelief, clicking her tongue. "This world is surely small. Of all hotels, you just somehow chose one of the best hotels in the city."

Ghost Lin stopped for a second as realization struck her. Of course, since the party Devon attended was hosted by an elite and an A-list artist, and Quentin was a luxurious man, the chances were high. Socialites meeting in the same place weren't unordinary as they walked on the same ground.

"But man… you really scare her." Ghost Lin sighed, recalling Devon's reaction. It was even worse when Devon was telling Ghost Lin about her story. "Of all people, you just have to be her brother in that life. A bad one at that."

It would be less troublesome if Quentin didn't have the same face as Devon's brother in her previous life. What a twisted story they were trying to fix.

"Ken," Ghost Lin stared at Quentin, sadness flickering across her eyes. "You moved on, right?"

She reached to his head, trying to ruffle it just like she used to do. He liked it whenever she did that in the past. However, her hand just passed through the strand of his hair.

"How are you, by the way? We had a messed up break up, I had a hard time." Ghost Lin withdrew her hand, leaning her arms over the railings as she stood beside him. "I hated you, you know. But more than that… I hated myself."

Her eyes softened as she stared in the same direction he was looking at. Although Ghost Lin knew she hated Quentin for what he did in the past, he was her first love. It happened long ago, but that didn't mean she forgive him already.

Still, it was not like their relationship was all bad memories. There were also good times where they both shared laughter, be each other's sun, and felt butterflies in their stomach.

"I missed you, Dev," Quentin whispered suddenly in a very sad tone, smiling bitterly as he gazed down. "I know you will not forgive me, but… I'm trying to be better."

Ghost Lin bit her lower lip, keeping her silent as those words gave her mixed emotions. She hung her head low as it had been many years and Quentin was still the same.

"I'm trying, Dev," He repeated under his breath, rubbing the rim of the wineglass with his finger. "Am I late?"

"Yes, you are, Ken," she whispered back, pressing her lips into a thin line. "Super late, Ken."

Because right now, the person who was inside her previous body was not Ghost Lin anymore. She had lost a battle against her inner demons, before her grandfather could wake up from his coma, and before she could hear Quentin's apology.

"Everything… is just too late, Ken." Ghost Lin was already dead. "I didn't get help, and no one helped. No one reached out, nor did I try to reach out. I thought I had no regrets… but now that she can't hear me anymore, I realize there are a lot of things I could've done."

Ghost Lin realized that no matter how the people in the living weep and regret, once a person was dead, they were dead. That was reality. No one could revive the dead, and they just had to suck up to the cycle of life because… that was just life.

She jumped when she felt Quentin's eyes on her. "Huh?" she turned her head to see him staring at her, smiling lovingly.

"You… can see me?"

"You're here again?" Quentin chuckled as he raised his hand, reaching for her ear. She instantly froze at it seemed he could really see her!

"Of course, you're not real." A bitter laugh escaped his mouth when his hand passed through her hair. "Why am I seeing you again after many years?"

"What… bullshit…"

Quentin took another deep breath as he withdrew his hand, closing his eyes. "Ahh… I want to tell you to stop haunting me, but I'm too frustrated and I really need you."

"Can you even hear me?"

"Haha. You even talk as if you're real." He chuckled, avoiding looking at her.

"Wow… you can hear me?" Ghost Lin's eyes widened, her mind buzzing as she didn't know what was going on!

"Yes, I can hear always, amore mio." The corner of his lips stretched into a charming grin, revealing his deep dimple. "This is rare, but I think I missed you so much. I am imagining you and how you will respond to things. You even sound the same."

Ghost Lin pouted air from her lips. "Don't speak as if I'm predictable."

"Haha. I just know you will say that." He smiled, taking another deep breath. "Of course, you aren't predictable… I just know that all the words that come out from that lips are garbage."

"Gar — ahh… this guy wants to die." Ghost Lin cracked her knuckles as she would kill him today if she could.

"And sinful words like murders, little shits, long list of curses, and criticisms."

"Hey! That's how I perfected my immaculate image!" she grumbled as that was made her righteous! No pun intended, because that was what Ghost Lin believed from the bottom of her heart.

"Mhm. It is very immaculate, Teroso mio." Quentin slowly turned his head to her, smiling seeing her seethe. "You always look adorable when you're angry."

"Is that why you always make my blood raise?!"

"You're not a good sport, that's all." He grinned, forgetting that he was talking to an illusion he had created out of deep yearning for her.

"I love you."

Ghost Lin's breath hitched for a moment, frozen on the spot. Not that she felt her heart flutter or any of the sort. She was just weak with good-looking men! How could he say all those with that face? It was unfair.

Quentin chuckled, seeing the reaction she used to give him back then. He reached his hand to her once again, brushing her cheek with the back of his hand.

"I missed you too… if you only know that." Came out a whisper as his eyes softened, and then, after a minute, he withdrew his hand.

"I'm kidding. I hate you," he said, grinning as the ghost's nostrils fumed. "You're a detestable woman."

"I used to think we have a love and hate relationship, but now, only hate remains!" Ghost Lin grumbled, regretting that she died just because she couldn't smack him in the head. "I should've ended you back then! Do you know what you did to me, huh?! If I was going to see you in that body, I will surely torture you until you wish you are never —"

"I'm sorry." Ghost Lin abruptly stopped upon hearing that low murmur. "I am really sorry, Dev. I mean it sincerely. That's why I'm trying to be better — to do better because I was wrong. I ruined us and it was all my fault… I'm sorry.. Very, very, sorry."
