Chapter -1 - A Guide to Omegaverse

Hello! I will just briefly go through these since I am sure most of you are pretty much familiar with what Omegaverse is, right? So, the author here will provide you with a description of some Omegaverse terms and a quick background of this universe. To those who are already familiar with it, there may be a few changes as in this story, everything is almost the same with only a few things that I adjust to my liking. 

In this world, everyone is classified as Alpha, Beta, and Omega. 

ALPHA

Served as the superior, the dominant one. They are born with good figures, brains, and physiques. They have charismatic and leadership qualities. Tend to have high positions in society, people with political powers and influences. They experience a mating season called rut, making them dėsɨrė Omega and can be violent. 

OMEGA

Omega are generally lowest on the hierarchy, yet in this story they are treated like a queen. Everyone respects them and regards them as a contributor to society by being able to give a new life. Regardless of gender, all omegas have the ability to carry offspring. 

BETA

The ordinary human. Usually the population of Beta exceeds Alpha and Omega combined, but in this story, Beta was close to none due to the "massacre" that happened years ago. 

PERIOD:

Heat: every 2 months

Rut: every 4 months

PRE-HEAT:

3-5 days before heat begins, Omegas will go through pre-heat. During this time, they will have the urge to do what is known as nesting. Nesting is generally making up a small and comfortable place to ride out a heat. One will normally keep adjusting the structure of the nest until he/she feels comfortable. The area will be filled with blankets, pillows, or things that remind them of the smell of someone close (their Alpha if they have one) or loved ones. Entering or touching an Omega's nest without permission will cause him/her to get distress and some may even attack. 

Symptoms: some feel extremely hungry, cravings, some will even feel incredibly tired and will sleep for a long time. 

HEAT:

Heat starts right after pre-heat and usually lasts for 4-7 days. I guess you know how it works so let's skip it. 

POST HEAT:

Sleep. That's what an Omega needs after heat. The use of energy in the heat was intense and the body is trying its hardest to bring the omega back in shape. It is known that an Omega sleeps 15 hours at a time in post heat. This will continue for a week before the body goes back to normal. A mate or a friend is recommended during this session to help remind the Omega to eat and drink in between the sleep. It will also help them return to normal much quicker. 

PRE-RUT:

4-7 days before entering the rut. Some showed a higher form of aggression, elongated fangs, changes in eye colors might happen for a more dominant Alpha, Possessive behaviors, restless, aroused state, craving for unusual taste buds.

RUT:

Usually if an Alpha has a bonded mate, their ruts may align with their Omega's partner. Tends to get more aggressive and possessive (if they have a bonded mate). And you know the rest. The same case with heat, a rut lasts for 4-7 days. 

SPONTANEOUS HEAT AND RUT: 

Rarely happens, only occurs when one finds his/her perfect match. Another way to trigger this is by hormones injection that can force an Omega or Alpha into full rut but they are usually self-administered and mostly found in black market or underground dealers. 

MEDICATIONS:

In this AU, any kind of injection or inhibitors has yet to be found and everyone relies on pills. However, these pills are not strong enough to stop a heat or rut from happening so a partner is still required to go through one. The pills can only temporarily delay the process. Doctors won't suggest taking pills so often since constant use can have unwanted side effects. Taking suppressants for a long period might leave an Omega infertile or even worse, having a heat much more intense than usual. For an Alpha, it can act like a neutering. Rut may be lost to him forever. He may as well just register himself as an eunuch this way. 

BONDING:

It is like an act of marriage. For Alpha/Omega and Alpha/Alpha(usually female), it may be a two-way bond unless it's forced. Bonds allow the mates to feel each other's emotions such as happiness, sadness, dissatisfaction, and anxiety. However, between Alpha and Beta, it is only a one-way bond as Beta cannot receive a bond bite. 

COURTING:

An action done by an Alpha when formally inviting an Omega to become mates. Usually by gifting flowers, jewelry, food, or dėsɨrėd items that have been marked with the Alpha's scent. Meant to display an Alpha's capabilities to provide and protect. An Omega may initiate a courting, but it is rare. 

SCENT GLANDS:

Inner wrists, neck (area below the ears), inner thɨġhs, ankles. 

PHEROMONES:

Alphas and Omegas tend to produce and instinctively react to pheromones. They also tend to produce large quantities of androstenone, which creates a dominant, intimidating aggressive aura. Alphas usually feel threatened when they scent another Alpha during stressful situations and react violently. However, there are also Alphas that are less aggressive. Omegas produce estratetraenol and copulins, which are highly attractive to Alphas. Betas pheromones have been described as comparatively bland or alternatively "soothing".
