Chapter 40 - Lingering Feelings

Name:Worthless Author:SleepyKola
"My Lord, these are the letters we received today," Lynn dropped a pile of letters on the huge mahogany table. The letters landed with a soft thud on it.

As usual, Derek had his legs on top of his desk, ignoring the laser eye sent by Lynn. Derek ġrȯȧnėd as he eyed at the letters on his desk, slouching even lower in his comfortable swivel chair, a little more and he would completely slide off the chair. His golden irises glared at them as if trying to burn holes into the pile of letters.

It would definitely be better if they burst into flames right at that moment. The thought of being childish flashed through his mind and he resisted himself from flailing his arms and legs around, maybe kicking the desk would do.

"These people really have nothing to do. What's the point of hosting meaningless balls, courting, dancing… Is their life that dull?!" The Head of Roderick complained. He was so fed up with this society.

Huffing softly, Lynn couldn't even bring himself to scold this man. He had actually sorted all the letters and only brought the important ones, not that Derek knew about it. Lynn chuckled at his own ridiculous actions, the things he did for his beloved. He would do it again and again. If it meant being by his side, he was happy enough.

He never asked for more. He wouldn't.

Instead of standing opposite the mahogany desk, he rounded the table and picked the pile of letters. Flipping a few and pulling two envelopes out, he went to stand beside Derek and handed the letters, not before shoving Derek's long and muscular --cough, cough!-- legs off the desk beforehand.

The gray-haired Alpha expertly turned deaf ears towards Derek squacks of surprise as he completely fell off the chair and landed harshly on the carpeted floor.

"Well then, My Lord, you won't mind looking these over, right? They seemed… Urgent," Lynn gently placed the two specific letters on the desk and pushed it towards Derek.

The older Alpha pouted like the overgrown man he was, soothing his buŧŧ from the fall. Luckily, the carpet floor had saved his tailbone from hitting the hard ground directly, softening the impact. Jutting out his bottom lips and preparing a puppy-look eye, delivering it full power at Lynn, however the sight in front of him made Derek paused momentarily.

As if the time had decided to slow down, which Derek was somehow glad about, a breath was caught in his throat. Like a huge lump had decided to lodge itself inside, Derek struggled to gulp down.

The view before him was pulchritudi-- Why did he use such difficult words? His swallow brain wouldn't be able to grasp it, not when his last brain cell struggled to keep the rusty gears inside turning. In short, the view was bewitching. It was divine, dazzling, alluring, he couldn't describe it with mere words.

It didn't help that the sun had just intensified the beauty. Sun shone through the windows, the rays of sunlight lit up the office room. Golden fingers of sunlight lit up the scene.

Derek's eyes trailed from the polished dress shoes, black trousers, to a pair of white gloved hands that were busy fumbling the gray vest tucked under a six-buttoned double-breasted tailcoat that hid the lean muscle underneath.

In lieu of standing up, Derek leaned back and continued admiring such a breath-taking art. Lynn always had his hair brush back, flashing the world his magnificent forehead, trying to look much more mȧturė. The older Alpha had to hold himself back from reaching out and brush a piece of stubborn ash-gray hair that had tumbled out from the neatly combed hair. His skin was also pale and flawless.

'You absolute perverted Roderick, look away before he notices you ogling him, oh look at that cute blush on his cheek.'

However, there was one thing that Derek loved most about this man.

It was the small beauty mark under his lips, placed strategically and attractively at the corner of his right mouth and chin. How he wishes to give that spot kisses and pecks.

When Derek met Lynn and Icarus for the first time, he fell in love at first sight, not for Icarus, but Lynn. He wasn't lying when he told his father that he wanted Lynn to be his. Howbeit, unlike the affair of Male Alpha and Female Alpha, the relationship between two Male Alphas was unheard of.

Even if that happened, no Male Alpha wanted to submit under another Male Alpha.

Truth untold, he felt really bad and guilty when first start courting Lynn's younger brother, Icarus. He was just trying to find a substitute, someone who looked like the one he dėsɨrėd, someone who could fulfill the pre-requirement of the judgemental society.

And…

There he was.

And an Omega at that.

A plus point.

With lingering feelings for Lynn, he started courting Icarus until he finally came to love him and moved on. He had forsaken those feelings as time passed by. Heck, Icarus even gifted him such an amazing baby boy, which was a devil right now, that lovable punk.

"Ahem…"

Yet, he never expected 'this illegal feelings' would come back, coming at him with the force of a bull, hitting him out of nowhere a few years after his wife passed away--

A sudden musty smell entered his nose, something like crisp autumn leaves with a little tiny hint of vanilla. It almost triggered a strange sensation in the pit of his stomach because he knew this smell really well.

"My Lord…"

'Oh hello there, will you be my peanut to my buŧŧer? Together we will be peanut buŧŧer~'

SMACK!

SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!

"Are you neglecting your responsibilities, My Lord?"

SMACK!

Another one was delivered and Lynn made sure to hit him right in the middle of his temple.

"Ow! Lynn, why you--!"

Lynn shoved a piece of letter in front of his face, making Derek go cross-eyed. A familiar sign entered his vision and he furrowed his brows.

"What does he want?"

Lynn rolled his eyes. Laughter threatened to bubble out of his throat as everytime his eyes landed on the red spot right at Derek's forehead.

"Did you forget about the marriage contract?"
