Hu Yucheng went up to the blackboard and wrote down the answer.
Ms. Wang took one glance at the answer and nodded her head. She warned him, "Go back to your seat. Don't talk in class in the future."
Hu Yucheng returned to his seat with his tail between his legs.
Finally, it was the end of school. After packing up his backpack, Shen Mochen was about to leave when he heard someone shouting, "Shen Mochen, there's a girl outside the classroom who's looking for you."
Hearing that, Shen Mochen continued on calmly, carrying his backpack and pushing in his chair before leaving the classroom.
Without a doubt, it was Peach waiting for him outside the classroom.
"Husband, let's go home." Peach hurried over to him with a broad grin. She gripped his hand and prepared to head for the stairs.
"Didn't I warn you not to call me that in school?" Shen Mochen's eyebrows furrowed deeply. Although he was still a child, he had the mannerisms of an adult.
Peach stuck out her tongue at him. Surveying her surroundings, Peach whispered, "There's no one around, so it doesn't count. Besides, you are my husband."
Basically, this was an intractable problem.
No matter how he tried, Shen Mochen could not rid himself of this label as her husband. The reason being that she would start listing all the people who claimed that he was her husband. After which, she would forcibly hold his hand and go around asking everybody living in the same compound and even some of their closer neighbours, before letting the matter go.
Shen Mochen thought dejectedly, "Why is it that I am the husband, but I'm the one who has no decision-making authority?"
"Shen Mochen!" A crisp childlike voice called out from behind him.
Shen Mochen and Peach spun around at the same time, only to see Hu Yucheng carrying his backpack and panting heavily while hurrying towards them.
"I'll walk with both of you today. I'm heading to my grandma's house," Hu Yucheng immediately explained when he saw the look of suspicion on Shen Mochen's face.
"Oh I see," Shen Mochen nodded briefly.
The direction of Hu Yucheng's home was completely opposite to that of theirs, but it so happened that Hu Yucheng's grandma's home was located in the same area as theirs. Their houses were just separated by a road. Hence, he could head walk home with them today.
Hu Yucheng ambled alongside Peach with a smile on his face and asked amicably, "Hi, are you new to our school?"
Peach sized Hu Yucheng up, and realised that he was the boy who had claimed that she was sitting in his seat this morning. She nodded and replied in a gentle voice, "Yes, I am Peach Su from the second class in the first grade."
"I see. I'm Shen Mochen's deskmate. My name is Hu Yucheng."
"Oh." Peach nodded, acknowledging that she understood. She then went back to holding Shen Mochen's arm and asking, "Husband, what are we eating today?"
Shen Mochen turned to look at her. Her eyes were glistening on her fair, flushed face. She had a delicate, ruby-lipped mouth. As she walked, her high ponytail swung from side to side. Brows furrowing, he asked her, "Have you finished your homework today?"
"Not yet," Peach admitted.
"Dad said that we can't eat unless we finish our homework."
"Huh?" Peach's face fell immediately.
Hu Yucheng looked at Shen Mochen with a devastated expression, his resentful eyes questioning, "Didn't you say that you weren't her husband…?
Shen Mochen glanced at Hu Yucheng. He then glanced at Peach who was next to him, and casually muttered, "I'm not."
"Huh? What are you not?" Peach scratched her head in confusion, wondering why he had suddenly uttered such a statement.
