Ji Weitian wasn’t hit that hard, but she was freaked out.

She backed up a few steps and leaned all the way onto the door, trying to see the person in front of her. Her face was pale.

Did she see a ghost? Why was Qin Nanyu here this late?

Qin Nanyu was a renowned graduate of Jiangcheng University, and the professors at the dinner tonight were his mentors. After the meal ended, he didn’t have his assistant drive them home, instead, he was the chauffeur for his professors.

When the car was parked in front of the faculty building, he remembered a new technology used for improving data mentioned by Professor Fan, which he wanted to check out at the lab.

When he reached the lab building, he heard the alarm.

He ran upstairs, wanting to catch the thief in the act, instead, he ran into the last person who should be here.

“Ji Weitian, what are you doing here?” Qin Nanyu’s gaze grew ominous as his brows wrinkled.

She triggered the alarm at the lab?!

“I… I was… I wasn’t…” Ji Weitian was so nervous she blubbered.

She didn’t realize the small mistake she made in overlooking the security system would trigger the alarm. Now, she was caught red-handed.

If it was anyone else, maybe she could explain. But it’s Qin Nanyu. If he really knew she was the one who set off the alarm, he would probably call the police to arrest her.

She would really be speechless then.

“Ji Weitian, explain yourself!” Qin Nanyu stepped forward, a hand reaching out to block her, his eyes fastened on hers.

His powerful aura made the oxygen around her feel insufficient. Ji Weitian thought she might be beaten up. Terrified, she covered her eyes.

“I… I… I… it had nothing to do with me!”

After she said the words, she recovered from the shock of seeing Qin Nanyu. She lowered her hand and spoke with eyes as innocent as that of a doe. “After dinner, I was worried about the new equipment here, so I came to check the lab. As soon as I got here, I saw someone running out…”

As Ji Weitian talked, she wanted to be more believable, so in spite of her hatred of Qin Nanyu, she ducked into his arms and gripped his collar, acting like a scared bunny.

“I was just about to call someone when I ran into you… it’s so scary…”

The “so scary” wasn’t clear in its reference to the mystery someone or Qin Nanyu.

A light jasmine scent made its way into Qin Nanyu’s nose. An indescribable sense of familiarity once again assailed him.

Before Qin Nanyu replied, a stream of light shone on his face–

“Who’s there? Put your hands up!” It was the campus police. They came here after hearing the alarm and were now shining their flashlights on Qin Nanyu and Ji Weitian’s faces.

When the officers saw it was a couple in an embrace, they yelled at them.

“Why aren’t you at the dorm? It’s late. Hiding here to have a date? Which department are you?”

Qin Nanyu and Ji Weitian froze at the admonishment. They simultaneously backed away, putting distance between each other.

They also looked at each other with disgust.

Date?

She would not date Qin Nanyu if he was the last man on Earth.

Qin Nanyu felt the same.
