Chapter 60 - The First Mission

Yul's chance to prove his stance arrived. It was his first mission. Given his recent admission, he was teamed up with his colleagues and a senior for a C rank mission. They were informed by the intelligence that there had been a leak about a small racket of illegal drug trafficking in the city and today they were going to bust it.

After Yul was ready in his vest, he called Zeng. The doctor didn't answer. Probably busy. So he typed a message instead,

"I am off to a mission. Love you, Zeng ge."

He sent it and lovingly stared at the background of his chat. It was a picture of Zeng and him when they went on a date. He remembered Zeng looking specifically cute that sunny day, smiling at the camera as he pinched Yul's ear.

Taking a last look, he switched the phone off when his colleagues entered the room and put his phone in the locker, near the carefully placed lucky charm that his mother had given him for safety. He wasn't allowed to carry any personal items on him during the missions. Not that he would tell his mother because she would be furious enough to fight the captain for allowing him to keep the lucky charm.

Yul smiled at the thought and sent a small remembrance to God and his parents. May they bless him for this mission.

He put on his earpiece given by the tech team and loaded his weapons. A silent van dropped them a few buildings away from the site of the ambush.

They located the target building and sneaked into it. Weapons ready to attack and bulletproof vests ready to defend, all the agents moved with the flexibility of snakes, without a sound.

A guard was patrolling at the entrance. Another one at the back of it. Yul's comrade took down that man, rendering him unconscious and Yul took care of the other one. Another agent rolled over to the door beyond which some activity was sensed. She asked them to stay back and carefully listened to the voices.

Upon confirmation, she raised four fingers and used sign language to tell them that there were at least four people in there. The team captain then signalled two agents to go over to her. They rolled over and stayed, holding their breaths.

The captain signalling two others to guard the two known exits. The boys obeyed. Now Yul was at the door and through a small crack, he could see a limited view of what was on inside. His keen eye scanned the small area like a hawk.

Packets and pouches with white crystalline powder were being sealed and stacked in boxes. There were about two men in his line of sight that were supervising the workers and only one of them carried weapons. The rest of them must be on the other side.

He conveyed that to his captain. The senior agent nodded, he then signed him to go left, he himself will be marching in the centre and the lady agent was to watch his right side.

They held their breaths, guns ready and their captain raised three fingers to count down.

On the mark of… Three. Two . . . One. Go!

"HongKong police! Drop your weapons!" They busted through the door, catching everyone inside off-guard. Before the armed drug dealers could fire their weapons, one of them was shot in the knee by the captain and the injured man howled on the ground. The other armed man was smart enough to not attempt anything that could get him shot.

"Drop your weapons!" The captain shouted. Guns and knives were dropped on the ground with distraught faces.

"Hands where I can see them!" Yul ordered, his voice promising severe consequences to anyone that disobeyed. The criminals raised their hands with sour looks on their faces. Each of them must be thinking of the ways they could escape this situation.

The lady agent went in to cuff them, yanking their hands at the back. While she was locking one of the dealers, another one took this opportunity and ran for his life. The other agents fired shots that barely missed him.

Yul was the closest to the exit and so he chased him but the guy was faster and probably more experienced. He managed to avoid him for a long time, running between narrow lanes and alleys but Yul persisted in the chase and when he was close enough, he lunged at the criminal, successfully tackling him to the ground.

The man winced at the impact, threw a curse and the next second tried to get up to run again when Yul yanked on his leg to drag him back down. The man fell and Yul was on top of him, throwing a punch across his face. The man grunted as his head snapped to the side with brute force.

Taking advantage of this moment, Yul tried to cuff his hands when the man punched him hard and Yul was sure, it would leave a dark bruise in the very least.

Great, now a certain doctor was going to nag him to no end.

Yul cursed and threw in two more punches before smashing the guy's head on the ground with just enough force to not crack his skull but to render him unconscious.

Once the tackle ended, Yul cuffed him and spoke into the speaker.

"Suspect captured, five buildings away 3 o'clock. He's unconscious with light injuries."

A reply came from the speaker, "Sending an ambulance. Stay there."

"What's the position over there?" Yul asked.

The captain replied, "All three captured. No casualties. The drugs are being sealed and will be sent to the forensics."

The leader paused before saying, "Good job, Agent Wang. Mission successful."

A sense of pride filled him. His first mission was a success. He had stopped a crime, no matter how small this mission was said to be but it was the mere beginning to more such adventures and he was looking forward to it. This was the job he always wanted.

However, he was a bit worried about the bruise that coloured his cheek near the left eye, now that he checked after returning back to the base. There was also a none too kind swelling around it. The medical attendant had given him an ice pack, telling him there wouldn't be any need for medicines.

Yul sighed. Even when the swelling lessons, the bruise had darkened. This was bad!

'Zeng ge is going to kill me!' he thought hopelessly.
