Xia Yu walked around the room and finally stopped in front of the bookcase. She saw the picture of a younger Huo Yun Chen and could not help to look at it for a little while.
In one picture, Huo Yun Chen was seen on the stage with a guitar in his hand. In another picture, Huo Yun Chen was seen with a group of friends.
The teenage Huo Yun Chen seemed very lively and happy.
"What are you looking at?" Huo Yun Chen wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned his chin on her shoulder. He followed her gaze and saw that she was looking at an old photo of him. "Am I that good-looking?"
Xia Yu thought that the teenager Huo Yun Chen might seem adorable but the adult Huo Yun Chen was even more good-looking. The man had aged really well. It made her wonder what he would look like when he was older.
"Mmm..." Xia Yu nodded. "You look really good with a guitar in your hand."
The first time she saw him in that pub, Huo Yun Chen was holding a guitar as well. It seemed that after seeing him on the stage that one time, she had started to fall for him.
"Then, I will play the guitar again for you to see. Miss Xia, which song would you like to listen to?"
Xia Yu was still pondering over this matter when Mother Huo knocked on the door and announced that Father Huo had arrived.
Huo Yun Chen told his mother that they would be coming before he rummaged through his luggage to look for the presents that they had bought for his parents.
"Xia Yu, where did we put the presents for my dad?" Huo Yun Chen asked. "Did we put it in another bag? Help me to check."
"Isn't it in your luggage?" Xia Yu still remember that he had told her to put the present in his bag as there were some spaces in it.
"Really? I couldn't find it."
Xia Yu crouched down beside him and peeked into his bag. A while later, she pulled out the paper bag behind his shirt and dangled it in front of him. "Is this the one you're looking for?
Huo Yun Chen stared at the paper bag and wondered how can he not see it in his bag earlier.
Xia Yu was reminded of Mother Huo's words earlier. She suddenly realized that Mother Huo was right. Huo Yun Chen is someone who could not find the thing in front of him.
After adjusting her clothes and make-up, Xia Yu followed Huo Yun Chen downstairs. Father Huo was already in the dining room when they arrived. The man was looking at his phone but once he heard some movements, he looked up to observe Xia Yu.
Huo Yun Chen brought her over and introduced her to his father.
Xia Yu looked at Father Huo and thought that Huo Yun Chen got his good look from his father. Just now, she was still wondering how he would look when he was older. But after meeting Father Huo, Xia Yu could imagine what he would look like.
However, Father Huo had a serious look on his face. Meanwhile, Huo Yun Chen inherited his liveliness from his mother.
Huo Yun Chen placed a few paper bags on the table and spoke. "Dad, Xia Yu brought some gifts for you and Mom. They are all specialties from F Country."
Father Huo shifted his gaze to Xia Yu and nodded. "Thank you. You're too polite. Please, have a seat."
Soon, Mother Huo came out with an auntie who helped to bring out a bowl of dishes.
The family started to eat their meal and Xia Yu could not help but feel awkward around Huo Yun Chen's parents.
Fortunately, Mother Huo was very talkative. After answering a few questions, Xia Yu began to feel more at ease around.
Mother Huo was more interested in listening to how Xia Yu and her son got together. Hearing that she used to be the attending nurse for her son made Mother Huo excited.
Father Huo was an academician. So, most of his questions were on Xia Yu's job as a nurse. His son did not like to study much and had chosen to enter the entertainment industry. Hearing that Xia Yu was a good student and had won some scholarships made him very satisfied. At least, if the two of them decided to have a child, there was the possibility that his grandchildren would like learning as well.
As Huo Yun Chen had mentioned to his parents about Xia Yu's family previously, none of them brought up this unhappy matter.
After the meal ended, Xia Yu followed Mother Huo into the kitchen and helped her with the dishes. Mother Huo was telling her a few stories about the young Huo Yun Chen and Xia Yu did not want to miss anything.
Meanwhile, Father Huo took his son back into his study. He made some tea and asked Huo Yun Chen to play a round of chess with him.
Unlike the lively atmosphere in the kitchen between the women, the atmosphere in the study was too quiet.
"Your relationship with Xia Yu, is it serious?" Father Huo broke the silence after winning the game in a short time.
"Dad, I won't be bringing her home if I am not serious about her," Huo Yun Chen said. His expression was serious. "I'm planning to propose to her. Xia Yu is the person I wanted to marry."
Father Huo took off his glasses and wiped them with the eyeglasses cleaning cloth. "Marriage and responsibility is not a simple thing. If you are not ready for it, then perhaps you shouldn't get married too soon."
The corner of his lips twitched. Mother Huo always told him that he should settle down and get married soon. His mother was always urging him to give her a grandchild. Meanwhile, his father was advising him not to get married too soon.
If he did not understand his father, Huo Yun Chen would think that his father did not like his girlfriend. However, he had watched their interaction earlier and knew that his father was satisfied with Xia Yu.
"Xia Yu is a good girl," Father Huo said. "From what you have told us earlier, she had suffered a lot growing up. Yun Chen, if you can't be a responsible husband and give your commitment to her, then, don't waste the girl's time."
Huo Yun Chen looked at his father helplessly. He wondered if this person was his father or Xia Yu?
"Dad, I know what you mean," Huo Yun Chen said. "I promise you that I will be responsible for Xia Yu until the end. I won't treat marriage as something light."
Father Huo narrowed his eyes as he tried to decide whether his son was telling him the truth or not.. After a while, he began to lecture this son about responsibility for an hour.
