Chapter 50 Investigating Gu Wan
Traffic in Haicheng City was very bad this weekend. The villa was located in the western suburbs while the Gu residence was in the eastern suburbs. The distance between them was almost half of the entire Haicheng City. Gu Wan was sitting in a taxi and had yet to arrive home.
The driver was getting impatient and bored with being stuck in traffic. So he started chatting with his passenger, “Young lady, you live in the eastern suburbs? Are you coming to work overtime this weekend?”
Gu Wan did not answer.
The driver continued, “Sigh, it’s really hard for young people nowadays. They live in the western suburbs, but work in the eastern suburbs. I wonder how much time they waste on the road…”
The driver was from Haicheng City. After he retired, driving was just a way to pass time. He glanced at Gu Wan and saw that she was dressed smartly and carrying a branded bag, he could not help but advise her, “Young people spend too much nowadays. You have to learn how to save money. If you save more, then you’ll have money for a car. Those who buy branded bags are from rich families. You don’t have that…”
Gu Wan: “…”
She doesn’t have that?
Gu Wan was expressionless. She turned on her phone and scrolled through her moments.
She accidentally scrolled through Meng Lang’s moments. He did not post a photo of the sunrise or the group photo. Instead, he posted something different.
That was a photo taken when Gu Chu and Feng Jia were standing on the spot where Gu Chu twisted her ankle last time.
The caption read, “Hahahaha, you guys didn’t guess that I really got a sign, did you?”
He only posted this photo, which meant that this photo was more to his friends’ liking than the photo of a sunrise or with a beautiful woman.
She did not belong to his circle of friends.
She stared at the photo and saw Gu Chu’s smile. She stared at her fiercely, as if she wanted to burn her face through.
At this moment, there was a notification.
She received a text message from an unknown number.
It contained only a few words.
“Niannian, is this you?”
Niannian was a name that her adoptive parents gave her before she returned.
Wu Nian, there was only one person in the world who would still call her that.
She was stunned. It had been ten years.
When Gu Chu woke up, Feng Jia was already gone. He had probably gone to work in the study.
Her phone was vibrating. She picked it up and saw a series of messages from Lin Yin. “How was it?”
“Chuchu, did you take care of Gu Wan?”
“Chuchu, call me back quickly. I want to know the results!”
She immediately called her back.
Lin Yin quickly picked up. “How’s the situation?”
Gu Chu replied lazily, “It was a one-sided massacre. She lost. I won with my own strength!”
Lin Yin’s voice was filled with surprise. “Congratulations! I guess you’ll be able to rest for a while.”
Gu Chu lifted the blanket and got off the bed to get some water. As she walked, she said, “I have another unexpected gain this time. It’s about her background.”
“What?”
“It’s Meng Lang’s friend. I don’t know where he met this person but she’s an actress in some R-rated movies. She told me that Gu Wan looked a little familiar. She thinks she’s seen her before.”
“Oh my God!”
“My parents never said where Gu Wan was found. This makes me suspect that she has a rather disgraceful past. That’s why my parents are keeping their mouths shut.”
On the other end of the phone, Lin Yin agreed, “I think you’re right.”
Gu Chu said, “So I want to investigate and see what’s going on.”
Lin Yin supported her fully. “Okay. She’s already scheming against you, so you have to show her!”
Gu Chu thought the same.
Initially, she didn’t care that she’d returned. As long as they don’t provoke each other, they can live in peace.
However, she was scheming against her.
And she was not a pushover!
If she could really get some information on Gu Wan about her past, she could at least blackmail her and make her behave, so that she would not cause trouble for her.
Lin Yin said, “Gu Wan graduated from the Beijing Finance and Economics Institute. My brother has connections there, so I can help
you.”
“Okay.” She nodded. “I also want to test my father. I feel that his willingness to change the engagement is not as strong as my mother’s. Maybe he’ll tell me.”
Lin Yin sighed. “It’s not easy for you now, I have to say. After Gu Wan came back, your status at home plummeted.”
Gu Chu was surprised that it would come to this. It was as if her parents’ love for her for the past twenty years was fake.
