Chapter 34 The Heartless Jiang Xun
Mufeng nodded lightly and shifted his gaze to Jiang Xun’s face. Because of the angle Chengye and the others were standing at, they couldn’t see that Mufeng had raised an eyebrow at Jiang Xun.
Chengye thought that they didn’t know each other, so he took the initiative to introduce Jiang Xun. “This is my eldest daughter, Jiang Xun.”
“This is Mr. Qin Mufeng,” Chengye said to Jiang Xun, a warning in his voice. He seemed to be hinting for her to stay away from him.
“Mr. Qin,” Jiang Xun greeted, looking as if she had never met him before. She had already guessed that he was indeed Mufeng.
This time, Mufeng raised his eyebrows. “Miss Jiang.”
This young lady was actually pretending not to know him. If it was someone else, wouldn’t they quickly act as if they were very familiar with him?
Did he become a ferocious beast when he was with her?
Jiang Xun stood there with an honest look on her face, looking at him with a strange gaze.
The corners of Mufeng’s mouth curled up slightly. He sneered lightly and headed toward the banquet hall.
He could even hear Chengye whispering to Jiang Xun behind him, “Do you know Mufeng?”
“Of course not,” she said righteously. “I wouldn’t even know who he is if you hadn’t introduced me.”
In Jiang Xun’s opinion, she wasn’t lying. After all, if Chengye hadn’t specifically told her his name, she wouldn’t have known that the person she’d run into twice would be Qin Mufeng.
Chengye thought about it and didn’t think that Jiang Xun would have any chance of getting to know Mufeng, so he believed her words.
In the meantime, however, Mufeng stopped in his tracks, gritting his teeth.
He’d helped this little heartless person twice, but it was all in vain, it seemed.
Since all the invited guests had arrived, Jiang Xun entered the banquet hall and went to the dessert counter to get some desserts. After piling a few onto her plate, she headed to a somewhat deserted corner and started stuffing her mouth.
The banquet wasn’t going to start until seven o’clock, and she was already hungry.
However, all the guests who came were watching her every move.
Even though Jiang Xun hid herself away in a corner, she couldn’t avoid the attention of the guests.
They could see that even though the banquet hadn’t started yet, Jiang Xun had already stolen some food and was munching away in the corner without any manners.
Someone sneered, “I heard that the eldest daughter of the Jiang family was raised in the countryside for 11 years and was just brought back not long ago. Look at her—she was brought out before she was taught proper etiquette. It’s really embarrassing.”
Another person sneered, “Look at how uncouth she is. She doesn’t have any manners. If I were the Jiang family, I wouldn’t let her come out and embarrass herself like this.”
“She isn’t valued in the Jiang family either. I guess they don’t care about her at all.” “Oh? What do you mean by that? What do you know?”
“Damn, what else do you need to know? Can’t you tell just by looking? According to the Jiang family, it’s been a while since Jiang Xun came back, but before that, they didn’t do anything special to introduce her. They introduced her at Yuexi’s birthday party instead. Do you think the Jiang family values her by doing this?” “That’s true. Besides, I heard that Jiang Xun and Yuexi are the same age, but she’s only two months older than Yuexi. And yet, the Jiang family threw a birthday party for Yuexi, but ignored Jiang Xun’s birthday.” “Actually, we can also imagine what benefits Jiang Xun will get if she lives under her stepmother. If Chengye really valued her, he wouldn’t have thrown her to the countryside.”
These guests all wore modest smiles on their faces. If one was to look inside the banquet hall, one would’ve thought that they were talking about something elegant.
However, in reality, while they pretended to be polite and modest, in fact, they were no different from those neighborhood aunts who loved gossiping with each other.
At this moment, the lights dimmed.
The banquet had officially begun.
The host shouted enthusiastically on the stage, “Let’s welcome the main star of today’s banquet, Miss Jiang Yuexi!”
Then, the spotlight shone on the main door of the banquet hall.
The door slowly opened, and Yuexi, dressed in a long, floor-length gown, slowly walked in.
Another waiter pushed a six layer birthday cake forward.
The members of the Jiang family stood together with Yuexi on the stage. Jiang Xun was also called up by Chengye. Everyone looked over with a smile and was suddenly stunned.
Under the spotlight on stage, there was someone who seemed to be even more dazzling than Yuexi.
It was Jiang Xun!
Jiang Xun was dressed simply and cheerfully, not as grand as Yuexi, yet she almost seemed to glow next to her sister.
Under the spotlight, she looked somehow dazzling.
In contrast to her, Yuexi’s skin appeared to be darker than usual, though no one knew whether it was because of the lighting, or if it was because she was standing next to Yuexi. That said, if it was the lighting’s fault, then why did Yuexi seem to glow while she was cast in shadow?
The crowd could not ignore the fact that the first thing that caught their eyes was Jiang Xun, while Yuexi, the main star of the night, was only a second thought.
The guests gazes became a little strange.
Yuexi, who was on stage, didn’t notice that everyone’s eyes were on her. She even looked a little surprised.
She thought that she had stunned everyone. After cutting the cake with great difficulty, Jiang Xun quickly left the stage, having remembered that she hadn’t chosen the person she was supposed to build compatibility with yet.
Jiang Xun opened the mission panel again and decided to choose Mufeng. Before she could confirm her choice, however, she paused.
“Hold on, system. If I choose to fight for Mufeng’s favorability, won’t I be choosing hard mode?”
That person was someone who didn’t even like people of the opposite gender approaching him.
The system cleared its throat. “Ahem, this might be a little difficult. But you can also choose someone else if you like.” Jiang Xun replied, “I want to choose Mufeng, but since Mufeng is the most difficult, shouldn’t you increase the quest reward accordingly?”
The system was speechless. So that was what she was after!
The system replied, “Considering that the difficulty of raiding Mufeng’s favorability is indeed very high, I can help you apply for it. If you choose to gain Mufeng’s favorability, you can increase the quest reward accordingly.”
Jiang Xun’s eyes lit up. She was just asking, but she didn’t expect that she would actually get something out of it. “Alright, then hurry up and apply,” she immediately urged.
After two minutes, the system’s voice rang out again. “Host, I’ve already applied for it. The reward for completing the mission will be increased to three years of life, and you will be given an additional 10 Merit Points.”
“Only three years? Is Mufeng’s favorability so worthless?”
“… it’s precisely because it’s valuable that the reward’s been increased to three years. After all, you only need to conquer Mufeng’s 10 favorability points.”
Seeing that she really couldn’t get any more benefits, Jiang Xun could only give up. “Alright.”
