Chapter 11 - He's still a child! (2)
According to the timeline in the novel, the periphery of City S would be sealed off by a blockade line before nightfall. This place would soon become the territory of zombies. It would be a waste to not clean out this place before then.
There were no zombies in the store. As Bei Nuan walked through the aisles, her finger quickly swept across the shelves.
Everything she touched with her fingers vanished into thin air: potato chips, nougats, spicy beef jerky, dried fish strips, enoki mushrooms, and self-heating hot pot bowls. The various ice creams in the freezer section were also cleaned out by Bei Nuan and entered her pocket dimension.
Time didn't flow in the upper layer of her pocket dimension. The state of the ice creams when she put them in her pocket space was the same state it would be when she took them out. They wouldn't melt at all.
Finally, there were the various wines displayed on the counter. In the last days, they could dispel sorrow and disinfect. They were undoubtedly hard currency.
There were also many boxes in the small warehouse in the back. She didn't know what was inside and didn't have time to check. She swept all of them into her space with a single thought.
Right after she was done, Lu Xingchi walked inside. He was taken aback when he saw the empty shelves.
Bei Nuan thought; sorry, you came too late. All of the delicious food is gone.
"Everything seems to have been sold out," Bei Nuan said.
"En." Lu Xingchi walked around and stopped at the food aisle. The shelves were mostly empty with only a row of stewed chicken and mushroom flavored instant noodles left.
"Do you want it?" He picked up a packet and asked Bei Nuan.
Bei Nuan firmly refused.
The big boss looked a bit pitiful as he picked up the leftover stewed chicken and mushroom flavored instant noodles that Bei Nuan didn't want.
They came out together. Bei Nuan reached into her bag and rummaged around. She pretended that she was taking out a disposable tablecloth from the bag instead of from her pocket dimension and walked towards the group of fallen zombies. The nails in their heads were already gone. Lu Xingchi had probably collected them for reuse.
Bei Nuan carefully covered them with a white tablecloth, tucked them in, and said a few prayers for them.
The eerie laughter sounded several times in her mind, and her Holy Mother progress bar correspondingly went up.
Lu Xingchi was at a loss for words when he saw Bei Nuan's funeral arrangements for the zombies.
Du Ruo sloppily leaned against the vehicle. "You might as well let her come with us. Do you have the heart to leave her behind again? Stop pretending. If you were really that heartless, would you have found an exit and driven such a big loop back?"
Du Ruo was right. He should learn from his mistakes.
His rational side told him that he absolutely couldn't bring Bei Nuan with him this time, but for some inexplicable reason, he just couldn't leave her behind and not care about her well-being.
After he had driven off, he couldn't get rid of the image of her standing on the side of the road, blankly holding the helmet.
And there was Du Ruo, who would remark in a nonchalant tone from time to time, "Do you think she'll fall into the hands of zombies or people? Lu Xingchi, which one do you want to bet on?"
So in the end, he had turned around and driven back.
As soon as they came back, he saw her getting into a yellow car on the opposite lane. In the driver's seat of that car, there was a young man.
At a time like this, she dared to get into anyone's car. She didn't have any sense of vigilance.
The little yellow car left the main road and turned into a gas station. Lu Xingchi turned to follow them without thinking.
As soon as he drove into the gas station, he saw her in a sorry state. She was holding a giant durian, ready to smash someone in the head.
(Back to the present.)
Lu Xingchi pointed towards Bei Nuan with his chin. "See, you don't have to worry about leaving her behind."
Bei Nuan was opening the door of the bright yellow beetle-like car. She got into the car and started the car. The car made sounds as she turned it around. With a bang, the car ran into the curb.
There were so much space, and it was so empty. It was simply a marvel that she could find something to bump into.
Lu Xingchi looked at her little yellow car and contemplated. If the Bei Nuan from his past life experienced the person she recently met turning into a zombie and then witnessed him killing a zombie through a shot in the head, she would already be in tears.
Although the current Bei Nuan had covered the dead with a piece of cloth, she didn't shed a single tear or linger around. She took the car key and drove away. This absolutely pragmatic behavior was completely different from Bei Nuan's behavior in the past.
And so, a strange scene happened on City S's highway. A sturdy black off-road vehicle was driving in the slowest lane. It was followed by a bright yellow mini car that would suddenly accelerate and brake as it followed the off-road vehicle. Bei Nuan's haphazard driving was dangerous to the extreme.
Translator Ramblings: Bei Nuan is so full of tricks to get the male lead to bring her along that I even question if she's driving badly on purpose.
