Chapter 15 - He's still a child! Part 2! (3)
It took no time at all for the villagers blocking the road to become zombies.
Bei Nuan saw the father and son who had been blocking the road.
The father had become a zombie. He was still firmly holding the cash. He rushed and shouted with a sore throat, "Pay up! Pay up!"
The teenager had also become a zombie. His actions were still the same as his dad.
Lu Xingchi picked up the crossbow and steadily fired. A wave of zombies fell, but the infection continued. The virus had rapidly spread through the village. There were too many people.
"Let's withdraw," Lu Xingchi said to Du Ruo.
However, the jeep and small yellow car were stuck in the sea of parked cars and couldn't get out.
There was no choice. They had to abandon their vehicles and leave on foot.
Lu Xingchi picked up his bag and walked a few steps. Noticing that Bei Nuan wasn't following them, he turned and asked, "Why are you lagging behind?"
The big boss actually didn't leave her behind this time. Bei Nuan was very moved. She quickly adjusted her bag and followed after. "Coming."
Lu Xingchi blocked another wave of attack. The zombies couldn't easily pass through the maze of cars, and the rest of the people seized the opportunity to escape.
Everyone's attention was on the zombies rushing over. Bei Nuan took advantage of the chaos to circle back to the jeep. Soon after, she went around the haphazardly parked cars and caught up to them.
With Lu Xingchi around, there was no one that could get close.
Retreating to the side of the road, Bei Nuan saw a small mutt tied to a telephone pole.
Amidst the screams, it whimpered in fright and stared at the passersby with a pair of dark eyes as it desperately tried to break the rope. Its missing owner had tied the rope too tightly. The rope stretched taut as it ran forward, but it couldn't break free for the life of it.
Bei Nuan hurried over and untied the rope. "Run away!"
If it didn't run, it would soon become food for the zombies.
As soon as the rope was untied, the puppy dashed into the field of wild grass growing by the road like an arrow shot out.
Bei Nuan heard the eerie laughter. Her Holy Mother value went up again.
Lu Xingchi was a bit speechless. "At a time like this, you're still taking the time to save a dog?"
"What? Why can't I?" Bei Nuan said to him, "He's still a child!"
Bei Nuan seriously stressed to him, "I definitely didn't make a mistake this time. He's a genuine puppy! A baby dog!"
Lu Xingchi: "..."
Bei Nuan called up her task bar. [Holy Mother's Voice: "Child Task (2 out of 2 completed).] There was a small white halo on the upper right corner of her vision with a five hour countdown.
Success!
The three of them withdrew from the site of the zombie outbreak and into a field that villagers hadn't started cultivating. The zombies had already stopped following them.
After leaving the boundary of the village, they climbed back up to the main road. Their journey was smooth, but unfortunately they didn't have a car.
"How do we get to Ningchng without a car?" Du Ruo asked.
Lu Xingchi answered, "At a time like this, there should be cars without owners. We'll walk along the road and try to find a car."
Bei Nuan cleared her throat. "Lu Xingchi, I actually have a way."
Lu Xingchi and Du Ruo looked at her.
Du Ruo smiled. "Little robot, what can you do? Can you build a car for us?"
Bei Nuan blinked. "Close your eyes. Don't peek. I'll count to three. You can open your eyes then."
"One, two, three."
