Chapter 46 - "Little Three, do you have enmity with me?" (1)
The person holding the gun was a solemn middle-aged man. He ordered, "Put down your weapons."
Bei Nuan placed the crowbar on the floor and saw that Lu Xingchi had also put down his crossbow from her peripheral vision.
The man holding the gun gestured with his head at the people next to him.
Two people came over, collected the crowbar and crossbow, and also took their backpacks. They rummaged through the backpacks and were confused at the results.
"That's all you guys have?"
Lu Xingchi's backpack had a few boxes of nails. Bei Nuan's backpack only had half a bag of spicy duck gizzards that she hadn't finished eating in the car. Du Ruo and Jiang Fei were empty-handed and didn't have backpacks.
Bei Nuan innocenty blinked at them. She was used to putting stuff into her pocket space.
Lu Xingchi calmly answered, "That's all we have. We have no food left. That's why we came in to look for food."
These four had eaten Hainanese chicken and rice at noon. They didn't look like people in dire straits.
Although the middle-aged man didn't believe him, he continued to ask, "Where did you guys come in from?"
Lu Xingchi answered, "The backdoor of the warehouse."
The people on the other side looked at each other, obviously not believing him.
One of them murmured, "How is that possible? Isn't there a large group of zombies over there?"
The middle-aged man with the gun meaningfully looked at someone. That man ran towards the back door and soon came back.
The man was so excited that his voice went up an octave. "Those zombies are all dead. There's hole in every forehead!"
"No zombies! We can go into the warehouse to get food then?"
Everyone got excited, and only the leader of the group remained calm. He glanced at Lu Xingchi and then at the recently handed over crossbow. He tilted his head. "Come with me."
As it turned out, there were no zombies in the supermarket. There were nearly a hundred people of both genders and varying ages on the second level of the building where the supermarket was located.
The second floor had a glass wall, so it wasn't dark inside because of the sunlight despite the power outage. Everyone was sitting in clusters and resting on the floor in an empty spot next to the shelves.
Bei Nuan and the others were brought to a man.
The man looked to be in his 50's. He was wearing glasses, dressed plainly, and had a gentle appearance.
The middle-aged man with the gun addressed that man as "Teacher Xue” and told him about the recent events.
Teacher Xue got excited. "We can enter the warehouse? He killed the zombies? He's that strong?"
The man with the gun said, "We're short of people like him."
Despite that, they were very cautious. They thoroughly examined Bei Nuan and the others for suspicious injuries.
Jiang Fei's head injury was obvious.
Teacher Xue called Dr. Su over to have him take a look at the head injury.
Dr. Su looked young, but he was very reliable. After a quick examination, he asked with a smile, "This was from hitting something, right? Were you in a car accident?"
He professionally wrapped up the bandages for Jiang Fei. His bandage wrapping skills were much better than Du Ruo, the makeshift doctor.
Bei Nuan quickly figured out that there were three people in charge in the supermarket: Teacher Xue, Dr. Su, and the middle-aged man with the gun. Everyone called the middle-aged man Captain Xing. He was a police officer and the one that had cleared the supermarket of zombies.
There had been a large group of employees in the warehouse that had already been there before the store was open. He couldn't deal with them by himself and didn't have enough bullets either. He knew there were supplies in the warehouse, but he couldn't get to them.
Now that the warehouse was safe, everyone was overjoyed.
Teacher Xue sent people over to take stock of the warehouse's supplies. Those people came back and reported that there were many things in the warehouse, but unfortunately, there wasn't much rice. Rice was easy to store and was precious in the apocalypse. Teacher Xue couldn't help but sigh.
Bei Nuan thought; those bags of rice were neatly stacked in her pocket space. If she donated them...
