Chapter 49 - Holy Mother's Kissing Task (1)

Little Three quickly reminded, "It only counts if you kiss them on their faces. Kissing their hair, arms, or fingers won't count. Good luck!"

A 12-hour countdown popped out, and Little Three once again stopped speaking.

Despair.

Bei Nuan looked at the Holy Mother value she had worked so hard to earn in the past two days. If she didn't complete the task, it would be all gone.

She had to kiss an injured person, which meant that the only person she could kiss was Jiang Fei. He was the only person that was genuinely injured.

Bei Nuan thought about his bandaged head. Where should she kiss?

The real problem with this task was that she had to say such toe curling words. If she said something like that to him, the misunderstanding would be as deep as the Mariana Trench.

Bei Nuan was deeply worried and was absent-mindedly following Lu Xingchi. She didn't even notice that she and Lu Xingchi had reached the third floor.

The third floor was a bunch of storefronts. Most of these stores sold food.

Lu Xingchi looked at the zombies as if they were nothing. He was relaxed and at ease as he searched and cleared the floor of zombies. Bei Nuan had nothing to do as she followed him.

Lu Xingchi cleared out a boiled dumpling store and went to look for a gas stove. He turned it on to check if it was working. A strong smell came out.

Sure enough, the gas hadn't stopped. For the time being, the people downstairs wouldn't have to eat their food raw.

Taking advantage of this break, Bei Nuan tugged on his sleeve. "Lu Xingchi, why did you ask me to go with you? Are you looking for a chance to feed me to the zombies?"

These words sounded so naive. He could tell right away that she was pretending to be a little white rabbit in order to trick a big bad wolf.

The big bad wolf calmly looked at the little fake white rabbit. "For you to ask such a question, have you become an idiot from breathing in too much gas fumes?"

Bei Nuan felt embarrassed for a moment. She knew that if he was going to feed her to zombies, he would have done it a long time ago. He didn't have to spend so much effort looking everywhere to find a safe place for her, much less come here to collect supplies.

"So why did you bring me along? Did you want me to cheer for you in the back while you beat the zombies?"

Lu Xingchi halted. "I want them to remember that you took part in clearing out the third floor. If there's a shortage of the resources in the future and they have to choose who to throw out, I hope they'll remember your contribution today and not think you're too useless."

Once Bei Nuan understood his intention, she was dumbfounded. "So you're planning on leaving me here?"

Lu Xingchi's tone was calm and impartial. "The people here are fairly reliable, and there aren't many zombies around. There's food here, and the water hasn't stopped. You have enough stuff in your pocket space. Even if they run out of supplies, you won't starve."

He concluded, "I think it's safer to leave you here than in that small building alone."

Bei Nuan knew that his judgement was likely to be right. The Jiangcheng base still existed at the end of the novel; it was never broken through by zombies.

"I won't be alone. Du Ruo and Jiang Fei said they wanted to stay with me." Bei Nuan didn't neglect to remind Lu Xingchi of the tragic fact that he was a leader without a team because of his personality.

"Du Ruo is too soft-hearted. Jiang Fei hasn't recovered from his injury. There's no benefit to you if they stay. You'll just have two more people to take care of."

Du Ruo and Jiang Fei weren't around. Lu Xingchi was ruthless with his words.

Suddenly, there was a strange movement near them.

Before Bei Nuan could react, Lu Xingchi abruptly grabbed her.

Caught off guard, Bei Nuan bumped into his chest, face first. His chest was too hard. Bei Nuan's nose hurt from the impact.

The sound from the zombie abruptly ended. Bei Nuan turned her head away from his chest and saw a fallen zombie near them.

Lu Xingchi had put down his crossbow when he turned on the stove. The zombie was killed by a fork instead of the usual nail.

Bei Nuan thought; the big boss was getting more powerful. He could even kill zombies without a weapon?

Lu Xingchi held Bei Nuan to his chest with one arm. She could feel his solid muscles under his thin shirt. His scent was chilly and smelled good.

"It's alright now." Lu Xingchi let go of her.

Bei Nuan mustered her resolve. One had to pay a corresponding price to achieve one's goals.

Lu Xingchi noticed that the two small arms around his waist had tightened their grip.

She firmly held his waist, raised her head, and looked at him with clear eyes filled with grievance. She pressed her pale pink lips together, and her eyes brimmed with tears. She blinked, and two sparkling and translucent tears quickly dripped down her flawless fair skin with that movement.

In a quiet, aggrieved tone, she protested, "Lu Xingchi, I don't want to stay here. I don't want to stay here with Jiang Fei and the others. I want to follow you."
