Chapter 65 - "Bang" (2)
The young woman looked incompatible with these desperados. Bei Nuan casually chatted with her and slowly got to know her.
The young woman's name was Zhen Zhen. She was a college student and left school to go home due to the sudden outbreak of the zombie virus. She met Huo Ren and the others on the way.
"You don't have to be afraid. Huo Ren is actually a good person," She whispered to Bei Nuan. Her tone was very sincere. It didn't look like she was pretending at all.
Bei Nuan looked calm, but her jaw almost dropped in surprise. She even forgot to drop the egg in her hand.
He nonchalantly killed someone and even found amusement in that person's death. A person like him was "actually a good person"?
Girl, have your morals completely fallen to his face?
"I saw him kill my boss. I'm still in shock." With her hand hanging out of the car window, she tossed another egg and reminded Zhen Zhen the reality that this "good person" had nonchalantly killed someone.
Zhen Zhen frowned. "That's true. Your boss is a bit pitiful.
He had been shot in the head. Is that still even in the realm of "a bit" pitiful?
Bei Nuan made up on a whim, "My boss's life wasn't easy. He has a mother in his 70's that's paralyzed on one side and a daughter that's waiting on him to earn money so she can get surgery. That's why he risked his life to send people across the river at a time like this. He's really pitiful!"
Zhen Zhen's eyes slowly reddened. After thinking it over, she said, "Yeah, your boss is so pitiful. Huo Ren is really pitiful too. There's no winner in this situation."
Bei Nuan was beyond speechless.
"No winner"? "Really pitiful too"?
Putting the murderer and victim on the same level, what was she sympathizing? That he hurt his finger when he pulled the trigger?
Zhen Zhen continued chatting with Bei Nuan in a low voice, "I think Huo Ren's life experience must have been rough. He must have psychological shadows from childhood and that's why he's so impulsive."
"Did he tell you that?" Bei Nuan bit into a dried egg.
"No, it's my guess," Zhen Zhen continued to say, "I think he has no sense of security. He doesn't believe anyone. If someone had treated him wholeheartedly, he wouldn't be how he is now."
With the dried egg hanging out of her mouth, Bei Nuan blankly stared at her for several seconds. She suddenly thought of a possibility.
Could it be that she had a Holy Mother questline too? Her skill level was too high.
It was a height that Bei Nuan could never reach. Zhen Zhen had to be a senior in this industry.
Bei Nuan was conflicted over what to do next for a long time, but in the end, she tried to probe Zhen Zhen's background
Bei Nuan tentatively asked, "Holy Mother's voice task?"
Zhen Zhen was baffled. "Huh?"
Bei Nuan stared at her to judge her reaction. Based on Bei Nuan's rich experience in lying, Zhen Zhen genuinely didn't recognize those words.
Alright, she was a genuine holy mother of the highest caliber.
"Never mind." Bei Nuan leaned back and threw out another egg.
After being on the road for less than half an hour, Bei Nuan saw a single high-walled compound on the city outskirts. The walls were very high, the pitch-black iron gate was big and wide, and there was a ferocious stone lion on each side of the gate. All in all, the place looked quite imposing.
As the car got closer, she saw the sign above the gate: Prison #9.
It really was a prison.
Next to the black iron gate, someone had written in chalk: Welcome survivors. Please give three short knocks, three long knocks, and three long knocks and someone will open the gate.
Someone in the prison opened a small window to open, opened the gate to allow the car to go in, and then hurriedly closed the gate.
There were cars and people in the yard. There were many people: men and women, old and young. They were dressed in various styles. It seemed that this prison had become a temporary shelter.
To Bei Nuan's surprise, no one took them away to check for zombie bites.
