Chapter 69 - Why did you come? (3)

Bei Nuan had curled up in a small ball in the innermost part of the bed. She looked at him with bright and teary eyes like a baby animal.

Faced with that pitiful gaze, Little Hei's protective instinct leaped up.

He said to Bei Nuan, "Don't be scared. Don't go for now. I'll see if I can persuade Big Bro Huo."

He thought it over and added, "I'll see if I can talk to him. He's quite willing to listen to me.

He also left.

Right after they left, the supervising guard with a large ring of jingling keys locked the doors on the cells. He said it was for safety and zombie prevention. Bei Nuan didn't believe him at all.

The sky darkened. There were no lights. The hallway was very quiet. Zhen Zhen and Little Hei never came back.

Lying in bed, Bei Nuan couldn't fall asleep.

Bei Nuan reorganized the items in her pocket space. She spread out anything that could be used as weapons - things that can be used to smash, chop, and cut people - in the most accessible center location.

While she was busy with this, she heard a fine sound from the door. It sounded as if someone was turning the door lock.

The door of the cell was locked. Only the person with the key could open it. Other than the guards, only Huo Ren would have access to the key.

Bei Nuan abruptly sat up.

In the darkness, a figure flitted into the room and closed the door.

Bei Nuan had goosebumps all over. She took out a sharp meat knife and held it.

The figure strode over.

The knife in her hand inexplicably flew out of her hand.

The figure reached her in a few steps, grabbed her wrist without hesitation, and covered her mouth.

The moonlight shone on the bed. As soon as the figure reached her, Bei Nuan saw who he was. She opened her mouth and viciously bit down on his hand.

"It's me." Lu Xingchi didn't seem to be in pain. There was even a smile in his voice.

Bei Nuan opened her mouth and let go of his hand. "I know. You scared me to death."

Lu Xingchi chuckled. "You have too many tricks. I was worried that if I don't move fast enough, you'll have used some strange method to kill me first."

He let go of Bei Nuan and sat down on her bed. He saw a rope hanging from above.

"What's this?" Lu Xingchi reached out.

"Stop!" Bei Nuan grabbed his disobeying hand down, and then she got up. Stepping on the bottom bunk, she tinkered with something on the top bunk.

"What's that?" Lu Xingchi had followed her in getting up. He saw a bed sheet covering a few large lumps on the upper bunk.

"It's a mechanism. With a pull, all three gas canisters will fall down."

Whoever dared to bend over by her bed would be unlucky.

Lu Xingchi was silent. Sure enough, he had almost died. She was truly very well prepared.

He could easily figure out where she got the gas canisters. She must have put away the gas canisters in that small building in Jiangcheng after Du Ruo finished cooking Hainanese chicken. She had never planned on staying behind in that building.

Lu Xingchi had noticed a long time ago that Bei Nuan had a habit. As long as she passed by something useful, she would put it into her pocket space like a little hamster that loved to stuff everything in its cheeks.

Bei Nuan put the rope that triggered her trap under the bed sheet to hide it.

Traps had to be made. She couldn't just resign herself to her fate.

Being locked in a cell alone, not only did she have to guard against that twisted Huo Ren, she also had to guard against others. The guards here didn't look like good people.

"Why did you come?" Bei Nuan asked Lu Xingchi.

"I came here to see you. I was worried you would be scared of being alone," Lu Xingchi straightforwardly answered.

Bei Nuan was a bit touched.
