Chapter 82 - It felt as if her heart had been hit by a hammer (1)

Lu Xingchi glanced over at Du Ruo and Jiang Fei. He lowered his voice and comfortably asked Bei Nuan, "Do you like to sleep on the inside or the outside?"

Huh? Bei Nuan didn't get it.

"You're planning on sleeping with me tonight, right?" Lu Xingchi lightly said, "This is my bed. You've been lying on my bed this entire time."

Bei Nuan hadn't known this was his bed. She sat up with a whoosh.

"I'm joking." Lu Xingchi pressed on her shoulder to let her lie back down on the bed. "If you want to sleep here, sleep here. I'll sleep somewhere else."

It was only then that Bei Nuan noticed this bed was very flat. Moreover, this bed had his pleasantly fresh and clean scent. That's why it felt so comfortable to lie here.

Bei Nuan sat up again. "Oh right, do you want to take a shower?"

Each cell had two rows of iron frame bunk beds. At the end of each cell, there was a simple bathroom with a toilet and a floor drain.

From her pocket space, Bei Nuan took out the marvelous portable camping shower that Lu Xingchi had previously purchased

The others came over to watch the excitement.

Lu Xingchi heated up water, poured the warm water into the container, and sprayed the water out of the nozzle using the hand pump.

After Lu Xingchi finished showering, he changed his clothes, washed the clothes he had previously been wearing, and hung them in the window to dry.

Bei Nuan was a bit curious. "Your obsession with cleanliness seems a bit serious?"

"That's not it." Lu Xingchi lightly said, "I keep myself neat and clean to remind myself that  even in the apocalypse I'm a human, not a beast."

Bei Nuan understood Lu Xingchi's point. it was easy for people to lose their humanity in the apocalypse. Everyone tore at each other for benefits and the opportunity to survive. It was a zero sum game to them.

The fall from human to beast was difficult to avoid. It would only take a moment, especially for someone like Lu Xingchi. His ability was too powerful. If he wanted someone to live, they would live. If he wanted someone to die, they would die. It was all within his will.

If he wasn't careful, he would become like Huo Ren.

Lu Xinghchi's awareness of human nature showed that he was truly worthy of his role as the male protagonist.

Bei Nuan decided to follow in the male protagonist's footsteps and take a fragrant shower to remind herself of her humanity.

As she came out, she dried her hair. The fragrance of shampoo and shower gel wafted from her. She hadn't put on her usual protective gear. Her outfit was close-fitting, and her fair-skinned neck and wrists were exposed.

Lu Xingchi looked over her upper body.

Bei Nuan knew what he was trying to find.

"You're trying to see where I'm hiding my pocket space, right? Don't bother. I don't have a jade bracelet or whatnot."

Over on the side, Du Ruo drew a card and muttered, "You're overthinking things."

Bei Nuan: "Huh?"

Du Ruo shook his head. "Nothing."

Lu Xingchi slightly smiled and carefully looked her over without hiding his intention.

Boss Lu had just said he wanted to keep his humanity, but now his gaze looked like a beast's.

Bei Nuan felt a bit embarrassed and put on her windbreaker. As she pulled up the zipper, she declared, "My pocket space isn't linked to a physical item. There's nothing for you to find."

Lu Xingchi replied, "When I asked you about it before, you said it was none of my business and that you wouldn't tell me."

Lu Xingchi unhurriedly continued, "So most likely, your pocket space is linked to something and you did hide it somewhere. So then the question is, where did you hide it?"

Bei Nuan looked away from him.

"You're blushing," Lu Xingchi studied Bei Nuan's expression. "The object is probably hidden on your body."

Bei Nuan: "..."

His observations and inference sounded so misleadingly accurate.

There were endless things that had to be done in Refuge #9. As Bei Nuan was elected leader, it seemed that she couldn't leave here any time soon.

Lu Xingchi talked it over with his group. Everyone's opinions on the matter were surprisingly unanimous. There was no point in wasting their time talking the people in Refuge #9. They'll just slip away under the cover of night.
