Chapter 92 - I bet 20 yuan that I won't mutate (3)
Tang Tang grinned, showing his shining white teeth. "I saw her running into the cafeteria with her boyfriend. I think this time she definitely won't forget me. She'll remember me for a lifetime."
He had risked his life to save a girl, and it was a girl with a boyfriend. My god, this move.
Du Ruo patted Jiang Fei's shoulder. "This kid really has a lot of fate with you. You guys should talk more in the future."
Jiang Fei: "..."
The boy, who was in charge of the gate, opened the gate to let them out. Right after Lu Xingchi and the others went through the gate, someone rushed over to them.
It was a boy with glasses. As he ran over, he said, "Wait, please wait a second."
Panting, he turned to face Du Ruo and asked, "You said you were scratched by a person that later mutated into a zombie?"
Baffled, Du Ruo nodded.
"Great!" The boy's eyes lit up. "I've been looking for someone like that for a long time, but I haven't been able to find anyone. Could you please stay here a bit? I want to record my observations of you for an experiment."
Du Ruo: ???
Bei Nuan thought; why did it feel like Du Rou was going to be taken away to become an experimental subject?
The boy led them upstairs.
As it turned out, Shui University had a laboratory for virus research. The boy's name was Jiang Xu, and he was a doctoral student.
Although Jiang Xu had been the only to survive the zombie outbreak for that laboratory, and his current working conditions were limited, he still did his best to record various data and collect samples. He hoped that this information would have some use after humanity overcame the zombie virus.
"So you still haven't mutated yet?" Jiang Xu was very excited. "You're the slowest to mutate among the people I've seen these past few days!"
Jiang Xu rubbed his hands together. "I bet 10 yuan that you'll mutate before tonight!"
Du Ruo was speechless. "I bet 20 yuan that I won't mutate."
Bei Nuan quickly expressed her support for him. "I'll put in 20 yuan for him not mutating."
Jiang Xu objectively remarked, "I'm sure to win. Look, his eyes are bloodshot."
"Really?" Du Ruo went to take out his phone. He wanted to look at his eyes.
It was only now that Bei Nuan noticed this change. Jiang Xu was right. The whites of Du Ruo's eyes had faint streaks of red as if he had stayed up late to play games.
Was he really infected? Bei Nuan felt despair.
Jiang Xu took Du Ruo to an office in the corner of the second floor that he had transformed into a temporary laboratory.
Jiang Xu put on an isolation suit and ushered everyone else out, leaving behind only Du Ruo. "I'm going to take samples of his blood and other body fluids."
Du Ruo looked over the makeshift laboratory. "Isn't this setup a bit too crude? You're taking blood that may be infected."
Jiang Xu smiled. "Yeah, but that's the current conditions. I can only make do."
Du Ruo was open-minded to learning and asked, "What if I mutate when there's only the two of us here. It's not like your isolation suit can protect you from my teeth." He bared his snow-white teeth to show Jiang Xu.
"There's nothing that can be done about that," Jiang Xu easily replied. "That's why I'll lock the door when I'm inside."
Then, he reminded Bei Nuan and the others at the doorway, "If you hear something wrong inside, or if the door doesn't open after a long time, don't force the door open. Go downstairs to find the students on the defense team and have them come up here with anti-riot forks to deal with the zombies." His tone was scientific and objective, fearless in the face of death.
He calmly closed the door and really locked it.
Jiang Xu and Du Ruo stayed in the room for a long time.
They had taken so long that Bei Nuan got anxious. Just as she was about to suspect that something had happened inside, those two came out.
