Chapter 117 - Bei Nuan, the candy you gave me is really delicious (2)

Even Tang Tang couldn't take it anymore. "Big Bro Du Ruo, I think you're not very good at complimenting people. Who uses those phrases to praise girls? Saying that she's nice, that she has a really good character, you only say those things when you can't find anything else to praise."

Du Ruo scoffed. "Then you say something."

"Alright, I'll show you guys a phrase that always works." Tang Tang raised his voice and unhesitatingly said, "Big Sis Nuan Nuan, you're so pretty!"

Bei Nuan: "..."

Du Ruo was very unconvinced. "If you're so good at that, how come the girl you like is someone else's girlfriend?"

Having his shortcoming called out, Tang Tang immediately wilted.

Next to them, Lu Xingchi quietly laughed.

Discontent, Du Ruo said in a low voice, "What are you laughing about? Do you know how to praise people? Say something then."

Lu Xingchi quietly cleared his throat. "Bei Nuan, the candy you gave me is really delicious."

Bei Nuan's face turned red. Fortunately, the lights were off, and no one could clearly see her face. She quickly turned over so that her back was facing them and closed her eyes again.

Early next morning, the group took Tang Tang with them and said goodbye to Shui University. They set off on their journey.

They had heard from the college students that the east side had completely fallen to zombies and a blockade had been built on the west side. As long as they passed through the blockade, they would reach a safe area without infection. This was the news they had heard before communications had been completely cut off.

Bei Nuan thought; this matched what she read in the book.

Lu Xingchi discussed it with everyone and decided to continue west to find a safe area.

Du Ruo looked completely normal now. There was nothing unusual about his eyes, but they didn't know how long the virus inhibitor would last. There was nothing they could do about that. They could only take things one step at a time.

After leaving Shuicheng, they traveled by day and rested at night. They tried to go around areas that were once densely populated in their journey.

As they drove further west, they left the plains. Gradually, there were verdant mountains on each side. They had to travel through more mountain roads. The vegetation became dense. Moisture permeated from the thick green leaves and grass on the roadside.

Today, they were passing by a small city. It was called Huicheng.

In the novel, the team passed through Huicheng and went to a town called Yao that was a few hours drive from Huicheng. Yao was an ancient town that was far from urban areas and located on a mountain.

Yao was a very special location in the novel. The novel's Bei Nuan had an accident there. In order to save someone, she was hit by a metal rod and had a serious injury. She ended up lying on the back seat for many days, unable to move. Jiang Fei took care of her while she was recuperating. Up to the end of the novel, she still hadn't fully recovered, and her movements were no longer nimble.

Therefore, as soon as they were near the vicinity of the Huicheng, Bei Nuan silently prayed that they wouldn't go to Yao.

Although Bei Nuan thought the novel's Bei Nuan's injury was self-inflicted from her Holy Mother personality and she would never act like her, she was worried that a strange combination of factors would lead to her getting injured anyways.

Even though she was different from her novel counterpart and the plot had veered off the course, if the plot could go off course, then it could also go back on course again.

So, it was better to stay far away from Yao.

When they passed through Huicheng's downtown, Lu Xingchi drove into a gas station to refuel. Although Bei Nuan had a gas station in her pocket space, Lu Xingchi still refueled the jeep when he saw gas stations.

Unless it was absolutely necessary, he didn't want her to take such a dangerous thing out. It was a huge flammable thing. He didn't want to risk an explosion.

Tang Tang, who was sitting in the last row, was bored to death. Like someone with ADHD, he was fidgety and kept looking around.

"Huh? What's that?" Tang Tang suddenly spoke.

Bei Nuan also saw it.

There was a strange thing inching forward on the sidewalk near the gas station. It was a thin metal box and was painted with gaudy patterns and stripes on the lower half. It even had a license plate painted on its back. It resembled a battery-powered toy car for children except for the out-of-place metal cover on it. There might be wheels underneath the box, but their view was blocked by the protective metal covering that extended down from the bottom of the box.

It was followed by a few curious zombies that would grab at it and scratch at it from time to time, but that didn't stop its slow progress down the sidewalk.
