Chapter 176 - Can you let me go now? (2)
Qiu Zhengxun frowned. "She said she's never used a gun. How could a normal girl be so calm when she's using a gun for the first time and faced with a zombie? It's very suspicious."
Bei Nuan silently cursed him. He was looking for excuses to give her a hard time. If Qiu Ji wasn't protecting her, Qiu Zhengxun wouldn't bother finding excuses. He would simply pull out a gun and kill her.
Qiu Zhengxun continued to say, "I'll temporarily detain her in the prison on the mountain and have her checked out."
Qiu Ji objected, "Why does she have to go to the prison on the mountain. That's not a place for people. She was caught sneaking in the warehouse of my casino. Even if she's going to be detained, it would be more appropriate to keep her here."
Qiu Zhengxun hesitated for a moment.
Bei Nuan saw that Qiu Zhengxun only nodded after looking at Uncle Shi.
"Alright."
She had won the cage fight, but she still couldn't leave.
Qiu Ji gestured for Uncle Shi to take Bei Nuan away and said, "Find a place for her in the back where she can have a good rest."
"Wait." Bei Nuan took out a chip worth 100 dollars from the bag and gave it to Qiu Ji.
Qiu Ji smiled. He played with the small, plastic round chip between his fingers.
He glanced at the heavy cloth bag in her hand and asked, "I lent you money. There's no interest?"
Bei Nuan seriously rummaged through the cloth bag, took out a chip worth 20 dollars, and gave it to him.
"I only borrowed the money for a short period of time, and I gave you 20% interest. Aren't I generous?"
At a loss for a response, Qiu Ji answered, "Yeah, very generous."
Bei Nuan handed the big bag to the burly man. "Please deposit this for me."
Uncle Shi took Bei Nuan back to the area that was off-limits to non-staff and to a room with a metal gate that was across the room where the zombies were kept.
Bei Nuan had seen this room earlier. It was originally used as a warehouse for the casino and filled with furniture and other odds and ends.
"You can sleep here tonight with peace of mind. If Master Qiu doesn't find anything suspicious in his investigation, he'll let you go."
Bei Nuan nodded and entered the room.
The light from the gas lamps hanging in the hallway shone through the metal gate, so the room wasn't completely dark.
Bei Nuan walked to the end of the room, specially chose a place with the worst lighting, and moved the clutter away from there.
Since Qiu Ji had told her to have a good rest, Uncle Shi went out and came back with a thick blanket for Bei Nuan. After handing her the blanket, he locked the gate and left.
Without the sun, she had no idea what time it was. However, she guessed after all that trouble, it was probably dark outside.
Lu Xingchi and others must have found out she was gone, but they would never think to look for her in the casino. Would Little Shao be able to find them? She looked like a smart kid. She might be able to find them.
Bei Nuan glanced at the blanket, tossed it to the side, and conscientiously began to dig out stuff in her pocket space.
The surroundings gradually quieted down, and even the hustle and bustle from the casino's public area fell silent. It looked like the casino was closed for the night.
Someone walked down the hallway and turned off all the lights except for the last one, which was only dimmed. The sound of that person's footsteps faded away.
Bei Nuan was the only person left.
There was only the sound of the zombies occasionally groaning and shaking the doors to their cages in the room across from hers. The sound echoed in the hallway.
After an unknown time had passed, a male figure came to the metal gate. His figure blocked the light from the hallway. He unlocked the door. His movement was very quiet, as if he was afraid of disturbing someone.
The metal gate slowly creaked open, and the man quietly walked in. He paused at the entrance for a few seconds, probably to adjust to the dimmer lighting inside.
Bei Nuan's sleeping spot was in a corner that didn't get much light. The corner was dark, and it was hard to see anything clearly.
The man walked to Bei Nuan's sleeping spot, crouched down, and gently touched the blanket that was tightly wrapped up.
There was no movement inside the blanket.
The man took something out and suddenly stabbed the blanket. There was a popping sound. It sounded off, and the sensation felt off too.
The man paused for a moment before stabbing again. As soon he stabbed down for the second time, he realized something was off and looked up.
There was a pile of furniture piled up high beside Bei Nuan's sleeping spot. Bei Nuan stood up on the pile. Even in the dark, her eyes were bright. She was like a small beast lurking and waiting for her prey to take bait.
She looked down at him with a serious gaze. Her clear eyes were full of mockery.
