Chapter 179 - Bei Nuan didn't hear what he said next (2)

"To silence you?"

"Yeah." Bei Nuan nodded. "I heard them talking about a fun casino on the island when I was carrying rocks today. I've never been to a casino before, so I wanted to sneak in and take a look. If you were around, you definitely wouldn't let me come here to play, right?"

She tried her best to justify why she had run off from the group and fell into this predicament.

Lu Xingchi: "..."

Bei Nuan continued on to say, "Then I happened to bump into something."

Bei Nuan told the tale of her adventure in sneaking into the back of the casino and finding a room of hidden zombies. While she was being a good Samaritan by locking up the zombie cage, she was caught by Qiu Zhengxun and his brother. She was seized and almost thrown into the lake. In the end, she was forced to participate in a cage fight.

Lu Xingchi was too good at spotting her lies. Bei Nuan only dared to fudge the details at the beginning and retold the rest of the incident as accurately as she could.

Lu Xingchi's expression turned cold. He only asked, "Qiu Zhengxun?"

Bei Nuan immediately filed a complaint. "Yeah, it's Qiu Zhengxun. He's out to get me. I think he would have killed me if his younger brother hadn't been helping me."

"To silence you," Lu Xingchi repeated the same words, but this time, it wasn't a question.

"Yeah." Bei Nuan smiled. "It looks like he was laying out a trap for his younger brother. I happened to stumble onto it and got mixed up."

Bei Nuan had figured it out.

When she had come here to feed the zombies, the outermost zombie cage hadn't been locked. Not only that, the metal bolt was barely slid in. Now that she thought about it, that angle was very suspicious.

As long as a zombie saw someone, it would get excited and grab the netted wire inside and frantically shake the cage door, which would cause the metal bolt to slide out. When the cage door opened, the closest person to the cage was out of luck.

Shortly after she entered the room, the Qiu brothers had come. It couldn't be that coincidental. If something was too coincidental, then 99% of the time, it was deliberate.

At first, Bei Nuan suspected Qiu Ji. He seemed much more suspicious than his brother. After all, the casino was his territory, and he was also the one that had people catch zombies to bring them onto the island. Uncle Shi, the person who was responsible for the zombies, was his subordinate.

Moreover, from what she heard at the time, he was the one that wanted his older brother to come here with him to see the zombies.

It was mentioned in the novel that they were half-brothers, and the loyalties of the bandits were split between the brothers. Although Qiu Zhengxun had control of the island, there were many people that secretly supported Qiu Ji. As long as the cage door opened and the zombie bit Qiu Zhengxun, the island would fall into Qiu Ji's hands.

However, when she had been locked in the storage room, she had recalled the scene again and again and realized that wasn't the case at all. From beginning to end, Qiu Zhengxun had been standing at the doorway. He had never gotten close to zombie cages and was never in dangerous proximity to them.

Qiu Ji was the one that had walked right in front of the zombie cages when he had been discussing the newly caught zombies with Uncle Shi.

Now that she thought about it, Uncle Shi was very nervous and kept a few steps behind Qiu Ji when he brought him over to see the zombies. Qiu Zhengxun had most likely planted Uncle Shi by Qiu Ji's side.

Later on, after the cage fight was over, Qiu Zhengxun had given Uncle Shi a look, and Uncle Shi had snuck into the storage room at night to kill her. That cinched it. If Qiu Zhengxun was the mastermind, everything would make sense.

Everything made sense now. Qiu Zhengxun had directed Uncle Shi to tamper with the metal cage in order to kill off his younger brother. That's why Qiu Ji had died when the team had arrived on the island in the novel.

Unfortunately for them, she had gotten to the room before them, noticed that the cage door wasn't secure, and simply slid the metal bolt into place. This caused Qiu Zhengxun's wistful thinking to come to nothing.

When Qiu Zhengxun saw that metal bolt was in place, the zombie couldn't get out no matter how hard it tried, and all the zombies were all desperately focused towards a corner of the room, he figured out that someone had come in and ruined his plan.

That's why he devised all sorts of ways to kill her once he saw her coming out. He was  furious that she had foiled his plan, and he also didn't want to leave a witness that knew the lock on the cage door had been tampered with.

The grand Master Qiu had tried so hard today and couldn't even kill a girl. How pitiful.

Lu Xingchi had also figured it out, and his face was ashen.

"Okay, we won't leave for now. Stay here for now," he said.

It was beyond Bei Nuan's expectations that he would so easily agree.
