Xu Yanxi’s voice carried a hint of gentleness and allure.
Xiao Yichen, however, remained unmoved by Xu Yanxi’s words. The image of Lin Wan consumed his thoughts.
“Yanxi…” Xiao Yichen exerted some force to gently pull Xu Yanxi away from him, creating a distance between them.
He looked at Xu Yanxi’s face seriously, his tone softening slightly as he said, “I treat you well, care for you, and love you, but it doesn’t mean 1 want to possess you.”
Upon hearing Xiao Yichen’s words, Xu Yanxi couldn’t quite grasp their meaning.
Chen loves me. I’ve witnessed his care for me, but he… doesn’t want to possess me? Why?
“Chen, I…” Xiao Yichen interrupted Xu Yanxi’s words.
“Get some rest. I’ll be on my way.” Xiao Yichen released Xu Yanxi’s arm and briskly headed for the door.
Xu Yanxi watched him depart, her mind filled with speculations.
Is there another woman in Chen’s life? Or has our distance grown over the years of separation?
After contemplating these thoughts, Xu Yanxi decided these weren’t major concerns.
He would get rid of the women around Chen one by one!
She would eliminate any women around Chen one by one, and as for the distance between them, she believed that she had ample time to be with him and cultivate more feelings with him to make up for the separation of these years.
Xiao Yichen drove directly to Blue Bay villa. On the way, he repeatedly called Lin Wan on his phone.
But no one answered.
Xiao Yichen grew even more anxious, fervently hoping Lin Wan was safe and sound.
Upon returning to Blue Bay villa, he had barely parked the car when he rushed inside the villa.
As he stepped into the villa and spotted Lin Wan sleeping on the sofa, warmth spread through him, mingled with a pang of heartache.
After hastening over, he knelt beside the sofa, taking in the sight of her. She still held the remote control, and the TV played a series of dramas.
“Wan’er,” Xiao Yichen called softly.
Lin Wan, groggy from her slumber, heard her name.
“Wan’er…” Xiao Yichen called out again.
Only then did Lin Wan wake up a little. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and opened them.
“Chen.” Lin Wan saw Xiao Yichen’s face. A slight curve formed at the corner of her mouth. She spoke with a hint of drowsiness, “You’re back.”
“Yes,” he replied, pulling her into a tight embrace. He leaned close to her ear and whispered, “I’m sorry.”
He knew he had wronged her today by standing her up. He wondered how long she had been waiting near the company.
Thankfully, she had stayed safely at home.
“It’s okay. I know you’re swamped with work,” she said, not making a fuss and showing no signs of anger. Then, she added coquettishly, “Chen, I haven’t had dinner. I’m hungry.”
“Alright,” he replied, his heart aching. “Lie down on the sofa for a bit. I’ll make some noodles. How’s that sound?”
Her sleepiness receded a bit at his words, and she looked at him in surprise. “Can you cook?”
“I know a bit,” he admitted. “But you’re the first person to taste my cooking.”
“Yes,” she replied, feeling content.
“Lie down and relax,” he urged. After gently carrying Lin Wan to the sofa, he kissed her forehead before heading to the kitchen to get started..
