After a prolonged bout of crying, Lin Wan finally grew weary. She sat upright in her car, dazed for a while, and retrieved a small makeup bag from her purse. She touched up her makeup to restore her disheveled appearance.
With her makeup refreshed, Lin Wan pulled out her phone and dialed Su Xiaorong’s number.
The call was promptly answered. “Hello, Wanwan. I’m delighted to hear from you.”
It had been long since Lin Wan had last contacted Su Xiaorong, so her surprise and joy upon receiving her call were palpable.
“Xiaorong,” Lin Wan called out, her voice still bearing a trace of tears. She inquired, “Are you at home right now?”
“Yes, I just returned to my apartment,” Su Xiaorong replied. She sensed something amiss in Lin Wan’s tone but didn’t press for details since she wasn’t certain.
“Is it possible for me to come over?” Lin Wan asked, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
Initially, Su Xiaorong didn’t grasp the full extent of Lin Wan’s implication. When it became apparent, she immediately said, “Yes, of course. Where are you now, Wanwan? I can come pick you up.”
This time, she was certain that something had gone wrong for Lin Wan, and she wanted to offer her a place to stay tonight.
“No, no, it’s fine,” Lin Wan hastened to respond. “I’ll drive over. Just send me your exact address.”
“Oh, alright,” Su Xiaorong replied.
Following this, Lin Wan received a message with Su Xiaorong’s address and set off to her apartment.
Xiao Yichen was waiting for Lin Wan to return for dinner in the Blue Bay villa. However, by the time Auntie Li had finished cooking, it was already 7.00 pm, and Lin Wan had not yet made it home.
Finally, Xiao Yichen had no patience. He took out his phone and dialed Lin Wan’s number, but it went unanswered.
As he grew increasingly anxious, he called multiple times to no avail. Panic began to well up inside him.
“Auntie Li, please go ahead and rest. Just leave the food on the dining table,” he said to Auntie Li. He then grabbed his coat and car keys before departing the villa.
Xiao Yichen headed to the office building and took the elevator to Dream Phil Company’s design department. To his dismay, the design department’s office was locked, plunged into darkness, and devoid of any signs of overtime work.
His concern grew deeper as Lin Wan was not working overtime. Where could she be?
Worried and impatient, he took out his phone and dialed Lin Wan’s number again.
However, it was only to be silent.
With his patience waning, Xiao Yichen lost his temper and dialed You Luan’s number, giving firm instructions when You Luan picked up. “Search the entire city for Wan’er.”
When You Luan heard the urgency in Xiao Yichen’s voice, he was stunned. Has Madam disappeared?
“Are you not going to respond?” Xiao Yichen’s tone grew increasingly harsh.
You Luan returned to reality and replied, “Understood, I will begin the search immediately.”
With that, You Luan hung up and immediately made phone calls to mobilize people to locate Madam throughout the city.
Inside Su Xiaorong’s apartment, Lin Wan, having taken a shower, wore Su Xiaorong’s pajamas. She sat with Su Xiaorong in the living room, watching TV. Her phone, placed on silent mode, continued to flash with incoming calls.
Su Xiaorong was well aware that Lin Wan had missed multiple calls. She intended to alert her, but upon observing Lin Wan’s preoccupied demeanor, she decided not to intrude. It was evident Lin Wan had something on her mind and was aware of the incoming calls..
