Chapter 30: The Goal to C-Rank
Yesterday, Yuto and Eliz, who cleared a C-Rank dungeon, went to the Guild reception counter to sell off their goods.
Under any other normal circumstance, after they sell off their goods, Yuto’s Adventurer rank should have risen.
Especially because Yuto defeated a B-Rank Mithril Golem.
This is enough of a battle record to be promoted.
But, Yuto remained a D-Rank Adventurer.
Eliz: “Mr. Yuto, good morning, yes!”
Yuto: “Good morning, Eliz.”
Yuto met up with Eliz at the Temple Square and both head into the Temple together.
Yuto: “Eliz, I’m thinking about taking on some Guild Requests. Are you okay with that?”
Eliz: “Yes, yes. In order to be promoted to C-Rank, you need to complete the Guild Requests, yes.”
Yuto has a solid battle record.
But the reason why Yuto was not promoted to C-Rank was because he has not contributed enough to the Guild as of today.
The Guild organizes, monitors, and supervises all of the Adventurers.
A D-Rank Adventurer can explore Dungeons and do whatever they want for their own sake.
But from C-Rank and on, Adventurers who reach this rank are tasked with making sure they turn a certain degree of their work to repay the Guild and society.
Kronos prospers as a Labyrinth city.
In a city where there are 500,000 to 1,000,000 citizens, Adventurers are not accepted without some conditions and limitations.
Adventurers hold a strength that exceeds that of the typical human being.
A strong adventurer can easily destroy another human being with a single slap.
To a common citizen, an adventurer is just another monster that you can communicate with.
And the only reason why the common folks are able to live among Adventurers is because of the Guild.
The Guild monitors and sends adventurers to contribute to the society and health of the citizens, and by doing so, win approval and acceptance of the citizens.
With the Guild working hard daily to give back to society, they have earned the respect and trust of the civilians.
In order to dive deeper into the Base Dungeon, an Adventurer will need to raise their rank.
Without rank, they will not be able to utilize the Transport Mechanisms to efficiently head to deeper levels.
And that’s why for those Adventurers wanting to become C-Rank or higher, they will spend a good amount of time and effort to complete Guild Requests.
Up until now, Yuto has never performed a single Guild Request.
The main reason was that Yuto had been an E-Rank Adventurer until very recently.
He did not need to complete Requests to be promoted to D-Rank, and frankly, he wasn’t strong enough to do anything for the Guild.
Entering the Temple, Yuto and Eliz head to the Guild Space where Guild Requests are posted.
Yuto: “I wonder what kind of Requests there are? I hope we can get a Request that will earn us some good money.”
Eliz: “If you’re a D-Rank, there are no great requests, yes.”
Although Yuto looks excited, Eliz apologetically lets him know the situation.
But Yuto suspected as much.
The Guild Requests focus on giving back to society, so of course, there are no requests where the Adventurers will benefit more from doing them.
Yuto glances through the list of posted Requests, and one catches his attention.
Yuto: “Oh! Hey, what about this one?”
Yuto found the D-Rank Monster Stone collecting request.
In Kronos, Monster Stones are used in various ways.
They use it for lighting or cleaning, for cooking and for smithing.
They are also used to create the ink for Magic Scrolls.
By giving the Guild the Magic Stones, in a sense, you are contributing back to society.
Of course, you are giving back to society, so you are not going to be selling the stones.
You will get a Request reward, but that will be significantly less than if you sell the stones yourself.
Eliz: “I think it’s a good Request, but I think it’ll also take a lot of time, yes.”
The Guild is requesting 1,000 Monster Stones. That’s 1,000 monsters you’ll have to slay.
If you do this normally, a party would require at least 1 week of time to complete the Request.
But Yuto has in the past, defeated 1,000 monsters.
Of course, those were E-Rank monsters, but Yuto’s level has gone up significantly since then. He’s thinking that D-Rank monsters wouldn’t be that different, and they would be able to clear it in record time.
Yuto: “You don’t have to worry about time. If we do this a little at a time, we will get done with it eventually.”
Eliz: “Yes, you’re right!”
Yuto takes the Request form and brings it to the reception counter.
After finishing the paperwork, he immediately leaves for the Base Dungeon with Eliz.
<<<<>>>>
Eliz: “Um….ummm…...Mr. Yuto?”
Yuto: “Hmm? What is it?” Eliz: “I understand that we have to start from the 1st Floor. It’s because I can’t transport to the 6th Floor yet…”
If you’re going to collect D-Rank Monster Stones, you need to head to the Floor where D-Rank monsters appear.
D-Rank Monsters appear starting from the 6th Floor.
That’s why a normal Adventurer will head to the Temple’s Teleportation Room and head directly to the 6th Floor.
But Eliz has yet to register her Guild Card on the 6th Floor Teleport Room, so because of that, her and Yuto will have to start from the 1st Floor.
Eliz: “I’m really sorry about that, yes.”
Yuto: “Oh, don’t worry about that. I wanted to start from the 1st Floor anyways.”
Eliz: “Is that so?”
In confusion, Eliz tilts her head to the side in wonder.
Eliz: “Then I’d like to ask one more thing, yes. Why are we defeating Goblins, yes? We need to collect D-Rank Monster Stones, yes…..?” After entering the Dungeon, Yuto hasn’t stopped hunting down every Goblin that has crossed their path.
No matter how many Goblins you defeat, they will never drop a D-Rank Monster Stone.
So as far as the Guild Request is concerned, what Yuto is doing right now is completely meaningless.
Yuto: “Oh…..uh…..I thought it would be a good opportunity to collect E-Rank Monster Stones. I need the funds to buy new armor anyways.”
Yuto was unable to look Eliz in the eye when explaining this and set his eyes on some distant point.
Of course, Yuto is lying here.
Yuto wanted to clear the [Defeat Every Kind of Monster] Quest.
And one more thing.
Eliz: “Hmm?! Wh---WHAT?!”
As Yuto defeats the Goblins, Eliz suddenly jumps up and yelps in surprise.
Yuto puts his katana back in his sheath and looks back towards her.
Yuto: “What’s wrong, Eliz?”
