Chapter 71: Angelic Lady

Unknowing of what was happening in Heine's side, Estelle, who rushed into the monster sites, saw the Knights fighting the monster assailants.

They looked like they were at their limits. Tired, and out of stamina. They could faint at any second now, but because they carried the weight of their responsibility to protect the city, they stayed upright.

On the other hand, the monsters didn't seem tired at all. The number of casualties on the monsters' side was much higher, but they weren't deterred in the slightest.

The monsters continued to fight, fighting to their death for an unknown purpose.

It was just invested in them, the natural instinct to cause chaos and destruction.

The sole perpetrator would be Elias, but who knows what he did that incurred these massive evolutions.

A quick decision was then made.

She would help them, but not too much. She didn't want to instill her role as their omnipotent helper. If that was the case, then everything would be much more troublesome.

The Knights would have to fight, too.

Grow, and learn. Eventually, in the future, they have to match up to the monsters.

The era of peace and lax attitudes was over. Now, you had to adapt.

Become accustomed to new living conditions.

Estelle put her hands on her hips as she stood on nothing in the sky. Wind magic was helping to keep her afloat at all times.

No one was able to see her yet. She was floating high in the sky, whereas the Knights were highly focused onto their fights.

Estelle thought up of the perfect move to finish up the battle.

She would use spears, spears that were laced with an aiming spell. They would then be launched

This was the method she used to kill the monsters during her first fight with them. It was convenient and didn't leave any chances to fight back for the monsters, who hadn't evolved to obtain the powers of flight.

The Knights were able to hold the monsters' movements, preventing them from attacking and injuring the men. Of course, these efforts weren't foolproof.

Two or more Knights were required to keep one monster in check. One would seal the monsters' actions, whereas the others would take down the creature from the side.

This plan was inefficient, but it was the only way to keep the monsters in check.

This made Estelle's aiming process easier.

The Knights held back a considerable amount of creatures, where they were standing on top of dead bodies themselves.

However, there were still some incoming creatures that would continue to pressure and plague their journey.

The thing was, these two separate sections were divided by quite a good distance. The Knights did a good job of preventing the swarms from overwhelming them in one go.

Thanks to that, Estelle could oversee how the battle went and knew to aim for the ones nearest to the Knight's defense line.

Those groups would implicate the Knights the most.

Estelle decided to strike down those who were approaching from the outer corners first.

The amount of enemies contributed to the Knights' growing stress. Knowing that they still had so many enemies to fight made them want to quit.

Luckily, Estelle was here now.

A barrage of golden spears were created, masked with elemental magic to make it seem like they were arrows made out of the primary elements.

Estelle imbued Light Magic into all of them, since the monsters seemed to have a particular weakness for said element.

She aimed at the desired monsters and started creating the spears. Estelle's mana glowed, and it attracted the Knights' attention.

They finally caught sight of the girl.

Like a ray of hope, the girl's presence dominated the battlefield. She took charge of the fight's flow in mere seconds, overturning their seemingly hopeless future in one go.

Estelle's spears dropped down in a high velocity, each of them specifically aimed to perform a purpose, block and attack.

Due to the overpowered characteristic that is an unlimited mana supply, Estelle was able to keep the production rate of the spears fast and with no breaks in between.

The monsters, although many, had their numbers lessened and their march stopped.

Estelle thought ahead, thought about how she could make the Knights train and save them from large casualties simultaneously.

Thus, she forged a plan.

She built a barrier- a ring of death around the monsters. She purposely struck down the monsters in such a way that their corpses would align to form a high circle that would act as a hindrance to the monsters' endless march.

This way, the Knights could take their awfully needed breather, and continue on fighting after waves of monsters who passed the wall came. By that time, the monsters they had on their hands would already be cleared.

This would maintain a steady supply of threat while also guaranteeing their safety.

[I think this is enough.] Estelle thought as she observed the battle that was now favorable to the Knights' side.

She huffed and decided to cast another round of spears, spreading them in the air and lacing them with the same aiming and reinforcement magic spells.

She spread out her hand, her mind quickly designating their locations and readying the light spears for the eventual launch.

Then, just then, Estelle felt something prickly on her back.

Turning her head around, she thought that she had seen 'wings', but within a blink, there were no longer anything there.

"...Hmm?" Estelle raised a brow.

The feeling was there. But nothing showed up.

[Did I sense wrong?] Estelle thought, tilting her head slightly as she continued spawning more spears.

However, the Knights who were in battle, but instead got distracted by Estelle's arrival saw the entire thing unfold with their sharp eyes.

It wasn't just a feeling, wings did sprout behind Estelle's back.

For a split second.

"Angelic..." One of the Knights mumbled.

Within the dreary and torturous fight against the monsters, the existence of a glowing individual that brightened up the entire environment was pivotal to the Knights' rising morale.

It was like a landmark that brought the news of their victory even before the battle ended.

The obviously frightening spears were all pointed above them, but they were aimed at the monsters. This clarified the newcomer's standing, which leaned towards their side in the fight.

Their fighting spirit was once again ignited after seeing the deaths of the pesky monsters.

The barrage of spears were released, piercing the air with its great magnitude and finally reaching the targets.

The monsters died, just like the first wave that formed the circle of carcasses.

The wall was now even higher.

The Knights also felt like their bodies were rejuvenated, and their tired selves were now reborn. They were motivated to fight, to slaughter the remaining monsters, and to save the city.

Of course, this had something to do with Estelle, who has been casting vitality magic on the Knights. The effect was reduced as to not impact the battle too much, but it could be felt.

The others caught on to this one Knight's words and started shouting in agreement.

The theme was 'angelic', and the praises were directed at Estelle.

Her golden mana was conspicuous even amidst the chaotic skies that didn't allow people to see clearly, not to mention the slight view of striking golden wings popping up behind her back that brought shock to everybody.

Awe. They were amazed by the holy figure of the girl.

How she was able to amass such great power and deleted the monsters' lives in an instant.

"Our angel! Our savior!!!! Woahhhhhhhh!!!" They shouted in unison.

Like a war cry, they roared and continued their attacks on the monsters.

(A/N: I'm cringing but- okay it's there for a reason oki.. Everything I do has a reason :DDD)

Raising her brow, Estelle descended down to the ground, careful as to not accidentally reveal her face to any passerby that is not part of her house's knights.

An angel? Her?

It was a bit embarrassing!

Estelle coughed mid air, and deliberately slowed down her attacks after the first burst. Her intentions were to fan the battle and turn the tides because things weren't looking that great for the Knights, not subjugating the monster packs herself.

She dropped one arrow, it hit a monster and took its life.

Another arrow, another life was gone.

And so on.

The Knights were practically roaring and celebrating their victory already. They viewed the existence of this unknown helper as a guarantee for their win.

It boosted their positivity and brought them extra motivation.

Hours passed. The civilians were evacuated, and the battle was on their side.

The other Knight squadrons that were tasked with evacuation came back and assisted the defense line, and further pushed back the monsters' march.

By dawn, everything had ended.
