Once a decision has been made, action must be taken quickly.
It’s been a while since I pulled out my normal clothes and headed to the adventurer’s guild with Asillie. The city may not have changed dramatically in the last few days, but I don’t know if it’s because of the sense of accomplishment that I’ve handled one of life’s burdens, but somehow the world feels a little more cheerful and radiant.
This...yes.
It feels similar to taking a vacation and taking a walk around the neighborhood when everyone else is going to work. It was to the point where I realized for myself that I was free to focus on something more interesting and easily stopped my steps.
I’m sure Ashley would have noticed the change in me, but he just laughed a little more than usual and watched the same thing to match my mood, but he didn’t say anything special.
Arrived in that way, the hall of the adventurer’s guild was filled with furniture that he had never seen before, perhaps in preparation for the winter.
There was nothing major about it, but it was quite serious. Thicker curtains, firewood burning in a second fireplace that would normally be off, a small magic stone heating stove in the reception area, and so on.
As I approached the reception desk, watching that the attire of the adventurers coming and going in between was clearly thicker than in my last memory, the receptionist, who raised his head in a businesslike manner and reacted, greeted me with a broad smile.
“Eldmia-san! It seems like it’s been a while since I’ve seen you! I thought something happened!”
It was the receptionist who cheered when he beat up Dangtel before and cut the postage.
“Yeah, I mean. You’ve been busy with other things for a while. How are you?”
“We’re always the same. It’s to the point that I haven’t seen Dangtel’s face since then? Ah, can I check if the letter came?”
“No. He probably didn’t come this time. He’s here.”
The reason why I came in and out as often as the adventure request order was Asilie’s pen pal, so when I waved my hand at the receptionist’s courtesy and pointed at Asillie, the receptionist widened his eyes.
Realizing that even some of the other receptionists, who had been picking up the story as if it were going on as they were doing other things, were responding, I quickly changed the topic.
“Rather than that, I came to ask you something today. Last time I received a request from the guild to move, I received some supplies like a tent, and I really liked it.”
“Material support? It’s a very rare case, so I’ll remember it sooner or later... May I know what kind of request it was?”
“It was a request led by the guild leader.”
“ah.”
As she said, it wouldn’t have been common, so I guess my prediction, which I thought would be hard to know unless the person in charge, was correct. The receptionist, who had left his seat to wait for a while, soon returned with an older, middle-aged male receptionist.
“Nice to meet you Eldmia-sama. I’m McDellin who managed the supplies you used in the quest you mentioned.”
“Nice to meet you, McDellin. I’d like to buy something like the tent you used back then. Can you tell me where I can get one?”
“I’m glad you were satisfied. The product was brought in from the Seneran Magic Library. It’s a place that makes and sells various magic tools for adventurers, so you’ll be able to purchase them individually.”
I don’t know if he gave me a pre-prepared answer after briefly listening to me when he came to see me, but McDellin answered right away without hesitation, took something out from under the reception desk and continued talking.
“Did you see some interaction with the street lights?”
“Huh? How... Ah. You said you could see it? It’s really amazing.”
It was the first time I used it in front of Asilie, so a novel reaction came back.
“But doesn’t it change anything by using it? Normally, magic that works on the eyes is visible on the outside.”
“Because it’s not magic...?”
“Ummm. Usually, there’s a clear difference between the evil eyes. Well, it’s good that it’s not revealed.”
As we proceeded, explaining roughly how it looked and how it was connected, a building that could never be called a library appeared in front of us.
“Welcome to Seneran Magic Library! What are you looking for?”
“If you’re talking about this product, this quarter’s latest...”
“You can check magic tools on the 1st floor and magic items for wizards on the 2nd floor!”
I’m sure, if you ask where the most crowded place in the Dwarven District is right now, it’s probably here. The armor store where Mr. Valkun was located was not like this.
“...is this... the magic library...?”
“Is this just... a store?”
Actually, it was my first time coming to the library, so I was quite curious about what it would look like, but as Asilie just said, it wasn’t a library, it was more like a general store. I checked the pendulum just in case, but now I was standing so stiffly pointing at the store that I could no longer deny reality.
“Welcome, customer! Judging by the pendulum, you came on the recommendation of the guild! What kind of item are you looking for?”
Surprisingly clean and natural hospitality. It was the same at the arms store, but strangely, the stores that welcome customers in the Dwarf District smell of modernity in their hospitality.
The smell of the pit created by laughter and questions to never let go of a customer once bitten.
“I came to see some tents and other travel items used by the guild.”
“Ah! Our magic library always selects only the best items to satisfy the guild’s high expectations! It’s really nice to hear that you have an eye for finding out about them!”
In a way, I just nodded my head calmly at the obvious and familiar act of soliciting guests. Looking at me like that, Asilier made a very serious face and whispered quietly.
“Eldy. I don’t know what level of goods this place sells, but you have to be careful not to be swayed by such solicitation.”
“...Yeah. I’ll be careful.”
I couldn’t say that I had experienced soliciting acts that were no different from bullies in my previous life, so I just nodded my head this time.
‘Do you want to have a guest?’ Modern people who lived in the apocalypse world where the same things were rampant are strong.
