“Let’s talk in private.”
The man’s voice betrayed nothing about his ambitions. But it did make Aurora’s companions alert. Even Rita and Damian looked taken aback by this sudden shift in mood.
But only Aurora was aware of the real danger they were in. She could feel her mark of obedience on the man’s body but she could not feel her magic taking effect on him.
It was like a layer of magic was protecting the real ‘soul’ of the man in front of Aurora. It would be horrible if he somehow managed to get out of Aurora’s magic.
“Alright. We can talk in the tent behind me. I will cast privacy spells around us so that we will not get disturbed.
“Aurora, no! That is too much of a risk to take. This man is dangerous. He even managed to stop Beatrix, the floor boss.”
Aurora agreed without problem but her companions had other ideas about her decision. Rita in particular sounded angry at her decision.
However, the man in front of Aurora gave her an approving stare. His glance told Aurora that resistance was futile and it was better to listen to him.
“It is because this person is dangerous that I am doing this. I don’t want to make him our enemy so talking about mutual benefits is the best course of action to take.”
Aurora decided to be open about her decisions. She had a feeling that trying to fool the controller of this man was a foolish idea.
“Do you believe that this is the best course of action?”
Natasha’s face betrayed none of her thoughts but Aurora knew that the princess was worried sick as well. That was why Aurora decided to give her an assuring smile.
“Yes.”
“Alright, you heard her. Now let’s leave them alone. We should make sure the other people are ok as well. I saw some injured ladies when I arrived here. You should also brief about our situation Natasha.”
Despite his age, Damian was a good leader. Aurora could see him grow and take charge of a situation.
Even Rita was listening to him unwillingly and it was nice to see her follow Damian’s command and calm down.
“Fine. I will back away for now but call us as soon as the meeting is over.”
Finally, Rita backed down. Aurora breathed a sigh of relief when she left with the other two. But not before giving Aurora a last meaningful glance.
“You have one hell of a guard god. Did you know that she even went against a guardian even without having access to her magic? Oh, I should introduce myself first before making such comments.”
“My name is Huges. It’s a pleasure to meet the latest goddess and the one favored by the abyss.”
If Aurora ever had any doubt about this man, they evaporated as soon as he opened his mouth.
He knew about Aurora and her situation great amount and she did not doubt that he was keeping tabs on her.
“I do not need to know your false name. I am more interested in knowing about your real name and what you want from me.”
The man, Huges, cracked up at Aurora’s questions. He seemed to be finding Aurora’s questions funny for some reason.
“Ah, I was caught after all. You are right in saying that this body is not mine. Let’s just say that I am borrowing it for now. You don’t have a problem with that, right?”
“I am in no position to say if I have a problem with your actions or not. I just want to know why you decided to meet me like this.”
Aurora was not interested in the man’s real body or the kind of circumstances he had found himself into.
Nor was she interested in knowing why or how this possession was even possible.
She just wanted to know why the spirit had sought her out. And what it wanted from her. And most importantly, if this was a threat to her and her team or not.
?[0)??? “Relax for now. I am just here to sate my curiosity. I just wanted to know what kind of goddess you were to not even come and pay your respect to the overlooker of these floors. You do know that these kinds of mistakes can get you and your party killed, right?”
Aurora went from relaxed to tense in a single second. She felt her magic respond to her panic and form a protective shield around the possessed man.
If he tried anything, Aurora would fry him out.
“Relax. I told you I will not do anything right now. I can see why Eve decided to place her bets on you. You are different from the rest of the divinity. I don’t mean in personality but your aura. You are closer to us than you are to humans.”
“It makes me wonder what you experienced to be this tightly woven with the abyssal energy?”
What the overlooker said went over Aurora’s mind. This was her second time hearing this from anyone.
“You know Eva?”
“Of course, I know her. We’re fellow overlookers so I know that snake very well. It will be better for you not to trust her every word even if you have a contract with her.”
With those words, the man stood up and turned away. It looked like he was about to leave.
“Wait, is that it? That was all you wanted to talk about?”
“Yes, that was it. I told you that I am here to look for trouble, nor am I here to stop you from your journey. I will even overlook the insult you made by not visiting me when you arrive here because you showed me something amusing in return.”
Aurora refused to believe her luck. She was not someone who was blessed with such good luck.
“Oh, I almost forgot that I had another gift for you. The place where the night market will arrive today is a few kilometers west of here. Head toward the red peak and you shall see it in a few hours.”
Aurora had a lot of questions to ask the overlooker but she did not get to ask them before the man, Huges, disappeared into the air.
Aurora tried to get a hold of the man but her hand passed through the mirage. All she saw were familiar yellow eyes but Aurora was not sure where she had seen them before.
Aurora’s hasty actions caused her to crash into the storage crates in the back and cause a crashing sound.
And Aurora was left alone inside the tent.
