Chapter 2: The Rolls-Royce
In the misty rain, the cars' taillights were blurred out as they gradually disappeared in the distance one by one.
Zheng Shuyi sneered coldly and gently rubbed her chin.
By the time the rain stopped, everyone who was at the banquet had left already.
The valet and the doorman checked the buildings as the cleaning staff scrubbed the floor with their mops. A gust of cold wind blew over and a few dead leaves flew beside Zheng Shuyi's feet.
She wrapped her scarf tighter. On a cold night, she wasn't sure whether she was mad because she was unable to interview Shi Yan or because that Yue Xingzhou still didnt appear yet.
Finally, when the wall clock hit twelve, a familiar car slowly drove by and stopped at the front door. Yue Xingzhou immediately got off the car.
Before he could speak, Zheng Shuyi had already run over under the rain and threw herself into his arms. She wrapped her arms around him and complained childishly.
"I'm freezing to death!"
Yue Xingzhou led her into the car and gently rubbed her hair after fastening his seat belt. "Sorry, I didn't see the road clearly in this heavy rain. I took a wrong turn and wasted a lot of time."
Hearing Yue Xingzhou's gentle voice, Zheng Shuyi's feeling of sadness and grievance immediately disappeared and was replaced by a sense of guilt toward him. She said softly, "I'm just kidding. How's your birthday? Is it fun?"
Yue Xingzhou grabbed onto the steering wheel and made a long sigh, "How fun can it be fun without my girlfriend?"
"I'm so sorry," Zheng Shuyu looked at him with a slight smile, "Who did you spend your birthday with?"
Yue Xingzhou opened his mouth to speak and was about to speak, but Zheng Shuyi spoke first, "Xu Feng?"
"Yeah."
Xu Feng was Yue Xingzhou's college roommate. After graduation, the two continued to have a really good relationship and were still in contact.
"He's getting messier and messier," said Zheng Shuyi.
"Huh?" Yue Xingzhou glanced at her real quick, "What do you mean?"
"I thought he was a really straightforward man. When did he start using perfume?" Zheng Shuyi leaned towards Yue Xingzhou and took a few sniffs, "It smells really nice, ask him what he used next time for me. I think it fits me pretty well too."
"Okay." Yue Xingzhou nodded and changed the subject, "How's your interview today?"
In front of his boyfriend, Zheng Shuyi didn't want to hold back anymore. She said angrily, "What a terrible person he is. We scheduled an interview, and he bailed on me. I waited for so long while I didn't even get to meet him once in the end."
"Don't be angry," Yue Xingzhou used one of his hands to rub Zheng Shuyi's hair again, "This is what capitalists are like, don't lower yourself to the same standards as them."
"Hey," Zheng Shuyi held her hair and asked a little unhappily, "Why are you touching my hair so much today? It's annoying."
At home, Zheng Shuyi didn't even have the strength to take a shower. She didn't even remove her makeup before kicking off her high heels and slid onto the sofa. Her eyelids slowly closed as she began to lose consciousness.
Suddenly, just as she was about to fall asleep, she remembered that she didn't text Yue Xingzhou to ask if he arrived home safely. So she quickly jumped up from the sofa.
She looked for her phone, but it wasn't in her jacket, nor was it in her shoulder bag. She removed everything out of her bag yet still couldn't find her phone.Ne/w novel chapters are published at novelhall.com
Zheng Shuyi sat on the sofa and recalled what happened tonight, but she couldn't think of a single place where her phone could have been stolen.
That meant she either accidentally left it at the Warner Mansion or in Yue Xingzhou's car.
Zheng Shuyi's phone was way too important to her daily life. Her anxiety wouldn't go away until she finds it, so she immediately took out her iPad and used "Find My" to locate her phone.
A few minutes later, she zoomed in on the red dot and became more and more confused.
Her phone's location was at Jiang City's General Hospital.
It's really stolen?
He lifted his slender hands and slowly hugged her around the waist.
The rain was getting heavier and heavier as if it wanted to bury the entire city.
The night sky seemed like a movie screen with the lights turned off. Scenes of the past flashed across Zheng Shuyi's eyes.
At first, she didn't really like Yue Xingzhou.
At that time, she was already in her senior year of college. Her roommates claimed that they found a junior that looked extremely handsome, so they ran to the sports field together to check him out.
I'm mean he looks okay not as good as they claimed
Zheng Shuyi thought so honestly and soon forgot about this person.
But Yue Xingzhou fell in love with Zheng Shuyi at first sight.
Young men's confesses have always been straightforward and quick. One night, he confessed his feelings blatantly towards her along with presents and flowers. It was quite a big scene as he even sang a song for her.
However, Zheng Shuyi didn't buy it. She rejected the presents and flowers and left while he was still singing.
At that time, many people thought that Yue Xingzhou would give up, even Zheng Shuyi thought so the same. He looked no different than those men whose love only lasts for minutes.
What Zheng Shuyi didn't expect was that even after she graduated and entered the newspaper industry to become an intern reporter, Yue Xingzhou still hadn't given up on her.
After leaving the campus, Zheng Shuyi got up early every day to apply for topics, look for resources, and rushed to interviews. During the night, she still had to write articles and reports to be published on the following day. The immense workload was like she was worried about a million-dollar project, when in fact, she only got paid a pitiful salary.
This discomfort in her new environment caused Zheng Shuyi to be depressed for a long time. At that time, Yue Xingzhou was the only color in her dull life.
Zheng Shuyi still remembered when she agreed on the phone that day to be Yue Xingzhou's girlfriend. Like a little child, Yue Xingzhou immediately called a taxi and left school to Zheng Shuyi just so that he can give her a proper hug.
In fact, most of her friends didn't understand Zheng Shuyi either. Besides his white face, there was nothing special in Yue Xingzhou. He was from an average family and doesn't even have a good job. Everyone else thought that she could definitely find someone better.
Zheng Shuyi still remembered her reply to her friends: I think he's very loyal! What a rare trait!
How did he change so quickly?
She looked at the two standing in front of the outpatient building again. A few nurses who happened to be walking by also looked at the two's kissing and showed expressions and jealousy.
What a good couple, they probably thought.
His excessive sensibility was real.
His carefreeness was real.
The habit of rubbing hair was also real.
Only "Xu Feng" could have been fake, maybe even the faint perfume smell came from this woman.
Zheng Shuyi felt as if she was a joke.
She told herself that there was no reason for her to be an outsider at this time, she had all the rights to walk up and defend herself.
But her legs wouldn't listen to her, and she didn't want to have a dog-blood drama in front of this busy hospital.
There was no need to embarrass herself like this.
After staring at them quietly for a while, Zheng Shuyi reached up and wiped up the water on her face, wondering if they were her tears or the rain.
She walked to Yue Xingzhou's car, took off the bracelet that Yue Xingzhou gave her, and hung it on the door handle. Then she left and disappeared into the endless rain.
Under the pouring rain, the silver bracelet on the door handle danced with the night wind, reflecting the cold moonlight every now and then.
The cold light was like Zheng Shuyi's eyes, saying coldly, "I saw everything."
