Arc-1 Chapter-10: What is a Dwelling?

Two weeks later, the second recording was held.
Doi, the announcer, was not there, so we started the recording on the island.
"Hello, Yoshikawa-kun, are you feeling less nervous now?"
When I got off the boat, I found the president there.
"I'm still nervous, but I've managed to do it without a script because I can be natural."
"I knew it! I figured that would suit you better!"
The plan for the program was directly conceived by the president.
His aggressive stance, including the fact that he chose me, is amazing.
Is there no fear of risk?
"By the way, I checked the first video ahead of time, and good job finding the Saffron!"
I was like, "Oh," remembering the time.
"I hope everything is okay. I thought I made a statement that could be problematic."
"No, no, really it was great. I checked with the production staff, and as you pointed out, they thought it was wild garlic. It's a great scene, so I've talked to them about using it."
"Is that okay, program-wise?"
"No, I would normally cut that scene in such a case. And then I'd replant the saffron and garlic without a second thought. But this show is all about realism. Even though it was a mistake by the staff, it was really good that even from the very first episode, we were able to show the danger. It makes it more convincing. That's why I'm going to continue to use meadow saffron, and there may be other dangers, but if you find any, please point them out to me. You can rag on the production staff and me, too."
"I understand!"
After that, the make-up and other preparations were finished, and the recording began.
"I've been thinking about it. A pit dwelling sounds good!"
"It will be a lot of hard work. Are you sure you're up for it?"
"I think with Daikichi-kun, I'll be fine!"
"All right."
Yukiho and I left the forest and came to a small meadow.
"To build a pit house, you need tools. A shovel to dig the soil, and an axe to break tree branches."
"Neither of them are in our backpack, remember?"
"So let's start with the tools."
"From the tools!?"
"It's the same stone axe we used on Grandpa's island."
"Ah! The one with a stone edge attached to a wooden stick!"
Maybe it's for TV, Yukiho elaborates on it.
I smiled and said, "Yes."
"We'll use a regular stone axe to break tree branches, but for digging in the dirt, we'll adjust the position of the blade. A regular axe has a horizontal blade, but since it's a shovel, you can attach the blade to the end of the stick so that it extends vertically. Tie it with a string to hold it in place and you'll be able to dig up some dirt."
"Ah! But there's no string either, right?"
"Oh, yeah, I forgot. Then let's make one."
"You can make string!?"
"It's easy, just peel off the outer layer of the appropriate stem and twist the extracted fibers together."
"How is that easy? I don't have a clue....."
"It's easy. Just a simple, tedious, stiff-necked job."
"Huh!"
"Well, we don't need to use such a high quality cord this time, I think a suitable vine will be enough. If I have to make strings every time, I'll lose my mind."
"You solve everything with what comes naturally!"
"That's how humanity developed."
"Daikichi-kun, you're so cool!"
I feel embarrassed when Yukiho tells me I'm cool.
I couldn't help but say, "Not really." I felt so embarrassed.
Of course, I was filmed with my face in full view.
"I hope they won't use my face right now."
"If you keep talking like that, they'll use everything!"
"Seriously?"
Before starting the work, we checked what we needed.
I drew a picture on the ground with a wooden stick and explained it to Yukiho so she could understand.
"Well, let's split up and get to work."
"Ou, that's no good."
This is where the "no" came in.
"What's the problem?"
"According to the program's policy, we have to do our activities nicely together."
"Oh, right, this is a TV program."
If I'm not careful, I will forget that it's a recording.
"Then let's work together. We'll start by getting some vines."
"Okay!"
The two of us will work together.
We often took turns with the handheld camera to make sure we looked good on camera.
Yukiho is adorable because she is more dexterous than I thought, but sometimes she makes mistakes.
A few hours later, a pit house was completed by the meadow.
It was smaller than the one in the textbook, and it was just tight enough for two or three people to sleep side by side.
It was only used by me and Yukiho, so that was good enough for me.
"Good work, Daikichi-kun!"
"Oh, thanks!"
We rehydrate ourselves in the finished pit houses.\
"Today's recording is longer than I expected."
It suddenly occurred to me.
Before I knew it, it was evening.
Last time, we would have already finished filming and returned to the mainland.
"You're right."
"I thought the first one had the longer recording time?"
"That's what I've been told, that the first one is an hour long special."
"Maybe something's wrong. We might as well try to contact them."
"I'll call it in then."
Yukiho takes out her cell phone from her backpack.
Operating with a practiced hand, she dialed the number for the director.
"Yes, it's done. Eh, eh? Are you sure? You're going to film that much? Ah, yes, I understand. Did my parents and Daikichi-kun's parents also approve? If so, it's okay. I'll tell Daikichi-kun that, too. Yes, now if you'll excuse me."
The call from Yukiho ends.
Longer than last time.
She seemed to be very surprised somehow.
"Daikichi-kun, we're in for a world of trouble."
"What's going on? Did the ship leave us or something?"
I laughed and waited for her to say she's kidding.
In contrast, Yukiho nodded with a straight face.
"Ha? Seriously?"
Even I was shocked.
"It's true. They want us to spend the night in this dwelling."
"That's insane."
"They want to shoot three episodes at once."
"They're really doing it, thisTV industry....!"
If I'm the only one here, I can understand.
After all, I'm just an ordinary person who got into the industry as a bonus for Yukiho.
If I lose it, it's not much of a loss.
But Yukiho is different.
She is the signature of the agency and the most promising teenager of the moment.
Her presence has affected not only the agency, but the entire industry.
And you're leaving her on a deserted island?
I couldn't believe that anyone in their right mind would do that.
"Maybe, no, it's definitely the president's idea! Our president has such a bold mind-set."
"This is too bold...!"
And that's how I ended up spending the night with Yukiho on a desert island.
