Chapter 8: Who Were You Thinking

Chapter 8

"Let's go, Yanming," Wang Peng said with a smile, "What are you looking at?"

"Nothing," Lu Yanming drew back his gaze and followed everyone into the elevator.

The elevator door slowly closed.

At the very last moment before it shut completely, Lu Yanming's long, slender fingers pressed the open button.

"Director Wang, let's call Director Yu as well. I'd like to hear the ideas of the marketing director at the meeting too."

Wang Peng was stunned for a moment, then immediately instructed someone next to him, "Go get Director Yu to come over right now. And you escort that female colleague back to her office."

When Li Zhen got back to her workstation, her mind was a mess.

One moment she was worried about whether she could keep this job, the next moment she wondered if the vice president would let it go now that he had received money from her, and another moment she feared that he would deliberately make things difficult for her at work because he had lost face for being taken advantage of by a woman. She wanted to resign, but she couldn't quit after being penalized a huge breach of contract fee by the management.

"Li Zhen, let's go, it's time to eat," Zhang Xiya packed up her things and got ready to go to the cafeteria for lunch.

"You guys go ahead, I'm not hungry today."

"Alright."

After everyone left the office, Li Zhen immediately slumped over the desk dejectedly.

Her phone dinged indicating an incoming message.

She picked it up and saw that it was a friend request.

When she opened it, the three words "Lu Yanming" appeared brightly.

Her heart, which had calmed down a little, instantly felt like it was set on fire again. She became restless.

Anyway, she would have to face this issue sooner or later!

Besides, she had already paid him money, so it should be easier to smooth things over.

Although she was mentally prepared, Li Zhen's hands still shook uncontrollably when she tapped to accept his friend request.

She took the initiative to message him first: You liar, you big scammer, were you just messing with me for fun this morning at my place? If there's something to say, say it. If not, get lost...

Before she could finish typing, he already sent a message: [Come to my office.] Thê source of this content n/o/v/(el)bi((n))

Li Zhen quickly deleted what she was typing, and replied: [Okay, alright, Mr. Lu, I'll be right there.]

At the end, she even added a cute cat sticker.

Li Zhen scolded herself inwardly. Her career life was about to become a living hell. She had to resort to flattery just to protect herself.

Not daring to delay, she got up and headed over right away.

"Knock knock knock..."

When she arrived at the vice president's office door, Li Zhen knocked three times. Hearing no movement inside, she carefully pushed the door open and went in.

The office was very spacious with full-length floor-to-ceiling windows along one side facing the street.

Lu Yanming stood in front of the window with his hands behind his back, his tall and straight figure was sturdy yet slender. With the view outside the window completely under his gaze, it gave people the illusion that the whole world was under his feet.

Then she threw in some more paper.

And even more paper.

A faint, amused chuckle escaped Lu Yanming's throat. "Stop throwing stuff. If the trash is filled with paper after you come to my office just once, it wouldn't sound good if word got out."

Li Zhen froze immediately.

Lu Yanming casually poured two glasses of water and smiled as he placed one in front of her. "Have some water."

Li Zhen picked it up and chugged down the entire glass in one go. But her eyes inadvertently glanced down at the area below Lu Yanming's lower abdomen. A mouthful of water spurted out. "Mr. Lu, you..."

"Sorry, the toothpick has a mind of its own," Lu Yanming said as his long, straight fingers elegantly toyed with the glass in his hand. He sat down gracefully, lightly leaning against the back of the sofa.

He exuded an aura of nobility that was untouchable.

"It's still bearable, I can endure it." He stated flatly.

Li Zhen lowered her head, feeling extremely awkward and wanting to rocket off into outer space.

With a perfectly calm expression, Lu Yanming asked, "Done with the water?"

Li Zhen's back instantly straightened. Finally, they could get to proper business. "Yes, I'm done Mr. Lu. I'd like to explain to you about what happened last night."

"I experienced it firsthand, I know what happened. So you don't need to explain. Since you've finished your water, come with me to a place." Lu Yanming stood up. His tall figure towered in front of her.

Li Zhen glanced down at his bulging area. Her delicate brows suddenly furrowed together. "Mr. Lu, what do you take me for?!"

"Don't worry, I'm not taking you to get a room." The corners of Lu Yanming's lips curled up as his light colored eyes glanced at her fleetingly, stirring up a titillating itch that was neither too heavy nor too light. "What exactly is going through your mind all day?"

Having her inner thoughts pointed out, Li Zhen blushed in embarrassment.

But with him reacting so strongly, bulging down there, and asking her to go with him, anyone's mind would wander.

Still reluctant, Li Zhen followed Lu Yanming.

When they arrived, she was dumbfounded.

The police station?

Sensing something amiss as they were about to step in, Li Zhen grabbed Lu Yanming's arm. "Mr. Lu, perfectly fine people don't just casually go to the police station!"

"You solicited me last night, so I'm bringing you to voluntarily admit your wrongdoing." Lu Yanming stopped in his tracks and looked at her sideways, as if this was only natural.

Li Zhen stood frozen on the spot, unable to react for a long time.

He was going to sacrifice his employee for a just cause!

"I didn't! Last night I was..." A flash of inspiration hit her and she quickly reminded him, "Mr. Lu, if you think I solicited you, doesn't that make you a prostit..."

Lu Yanming: "Yes, that's why I'm here too, right?"

Li Zhen was stunned speechless for a long time.

Eventually, she stared at him with wide eyes and gave him an admiring thumbs up.

"If you're not named Mudville's Top 10 Good Citizens of the Year at this year's awards ceremony, I'm not watching."
