51 Old Qin, May I Ask If You’re Missing An Old Friend?
The people on the horses were all wearing armor and holding weapons that glinted coldly in their hands.
The man in the lead looked to be in his forties and rode a black horse. He was dressed in a black robe and had a sword at his waist. The sword’s hilt was embedded with precious black gems. Under the sunlight, it gave off a murderous aura that kept people away.
The man had thick eyebrows and eagle-like eyes. When he looked at people, his eyes were sinister, as if they were as sharp as a sword that he could use to peel off a person’s skin and see through everything.
When he saw Old Master Qin, the man’s eyes moved slightly. He immediately jumped off the horse and threw the reins to the courier who had come to receive him. He took vigorous strides towards Old Master Qin and cupped his fists in greeting.
“I didn’t expect to see Old Master Qin in a small city far away. I hope you won’t take it to heart if I’ve disturbed you.”
The man’s voice was loud and clear, like the sound of a bell. It was clear that his inner force was strong.
“General Wan, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Why have you come to Jin City?”
Old Master Qin cupped his fists and asked Wan Yulin. Wan Yulin was the eldest son of the current Emperor, Wan Shengchang. He was skilled in martial arts, deep in scheming, and proficient in military tactics. He was an influential official in the dynasty, and even the Emperor regarded him with great importance.
Although Wan Yulin was constantly on the Eastern and Western conquests, it was currently a period of peace and there were no wars. He should be recuperating in the capital.
Judging from the dust on his military uniform, it was clear that he had rushed all the way to Jin City. He must have come for Wan Yufeng who had been killed in Guo City.
Old Master Qin understood this, but he still pretended to be confused and pretended not to know about the murder of Wan Yufeng.
“I’m just doing some work. Please go back to your work, Old Master Qin. We’ll have a long chat when we have time.”
Wan Yulin’s eyes darted around, but he didn’t answer Old Master Qin’s question directly. Instead, he politely bowed and took his leave.
“Alright,” he said.
He didn’t want to talk about it, and Old Master Qin didn’t want to talk about it either. He smiled and nodded, then moved aside to make way for Wan Yulin, watching him walk into the courier station.
Wan Yulin glanced at Su Qing as he walked past her, his brows slightly furrowed. This woman’s aura was so strong that she dared to look him in the eye without a trace of fear.
Su Qing looked at the man. When he looked at people, his eyes were like an eagle’s. His eyes were filled with anger, and his steps were sharp and murderous. When the two of them looked at each other, they could feel the murderous aura coming from him.
This was a person not to be trifled with. Only those who had been on the battlefield and had their hands stained with blood would have such a fierce aura.
If it was an ordinary person, they would be so scared that their scalp would go numb and they would shiver under his sharp gaze.
Ji Xiaoying was so frightened by this murderous man that she lowered her head and hid behind Su Qing. It was too scary, as if he was going to eat her up.
Seeing Ji Xiaoying’s frightened look, Wan Yulin retracted his gaze and walked into the station with domineering steps.
The armored soldiers in the courtyard all had cold and solemn expressions. They handed their horses to the courier and replaced the soldiers guarding the gate. Their dark eyes made people panic.
Su Qing scanned them. They were well-trained soldiers with strong willpower.
Old Master Qin was afraid of scaring Su Qing and Ji Xiaoying, so he turned around and smiled at them.”
“Don’t be afraid.”
When he saw Su Qing’s cold and expressionless face, Old Master Qin felt that his words were in vain. She was not afraid at all.
Not bad, to have such courage and insight at such a young age, as expected of a Divine Doctor, he was different from the rest.
Old Master Qin led Su Qing and Ji Xiaoying out of the relay station. The Wan family’s army only glanced at them, without any expression, as if they were ice-cold sculptures.
The Wan family Army only respected their own commander, and did not put anyone else in their eyes.
Old Master Qin was clearly already familiar with this group of people’s conduct and did not show any signs of anger. He walked out of the rest station like a wild crane and brought Su Qing and Ji Xiaoying to the full moon tower.
The Full Moon restaurant and the courier station were only separated by two rooms, and it was very lively at the dining area.
The waiter saw that Old Master Qin’s bearing was extraordinary. These people were all smart. They could tell whether a guest was rich or noble just from the way they dressed.
He hurriedly came over to receive them warmly, “Hello, Sir. Do you have the location?”
“The Peony Pavilion.”
Li Wu went over to stop the waiter from telling him the name of the private room. Four guards stood by Old Master Qin’s side, while Su Qing and Ji Xiaoying followed behind Old Master Qin.
“Oh, it’s the guest from the Peony Pavilion. Please go upstairs.”
The smile on the waiter’s face became even more enthusiastic. He bowed and led the person upstairs.
In The Peony Pavilion, the moment one entered, one could see a brightly colored painting of peonies. It was made by a famous artist, and the flowers bloomed beautifully, exuding an air of nobility.
“Sir, this is the recipe. Take your time to read it. I’ll make you some tea.”
The waiter handed over an exquisitely made recipe with golden thread and said to Old Master Qin with a smile.
“Go on.”
Old Master Qin picked up the recipe and waved his hand without looking up.
“Is there anything you two young ladies want to eat?”
Old Master Qin showed Su Qing great respect and passed the recipe to her.
“Steamed West Lake fish.”
Su Qing still remembered the famous dishes of the full moon restaurant introduced by the courier station, so he said it out loud.
“Alright, what about you, Xiaoying? What do you like to eat? ”
Old Master Qin laughed. He wanted to order this dish as well. Seeing that Su Qing did not order anything else, he passed the recipe to Ji Xiaoying.
He did not call her Miss Ji, but affectionately called her Xiaoying.
Previously, when Ji Xiaoying was wearing a coarse silk gown and her face was dirty, Old Master Qin already felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity. Now that she was wearing a pink dress and her hair was combed into a young lady’s bun, Old Master Qin felt that she looked even more familiar. A bold guess appeared in his heart, and his eyes became excited.
Ji Xiaoying did not notice Old Master Qin’s gaze on her. She looked at the delicious-looking dishes on the menu and really wanted to eat every single one of them. She began to hesitate.
“Do you like sweet things?”
Old Master Qin was very patient. Not only did he not urge her, he even asked her with a smile.
“Yes.”
...
Ji Xiaoying quickly nodded. She had a sweet tooth so her brother often went to the mountains to find honeycombs and brought her honey.
“Then how about a sweet and sour tenderloin? And a sweet potato with sugar threads?”
Old Master Qin suggested to Ji Xiaoying. These two dishes were also the child’s favorite. The old man’s eyes were red and he raised his hand to wipe the corners of his eyes. It had been 16 years since the incident, but his heart still ached every time he thought about it.
“Alright,” he said.
Ji Xiaoying had never been to a restaurant before, so when she heard Old Master Qin say that the food was delicious, she happily agreed.
Seeing Xiaoying’s sweet smile, Old Master Qin’s eyes were dazed. It was as if he could see through her, the little girl with two small buns and looking at him mischievously. The old man’s eyes turned even redder.
Su Qing noticed the old man’s strange behavior and looked over coldly. At first, she thought that Old Master Qin had improper thoughts about Ji Xiaoying, but when she saw the tears and pain in the old man’s eyes, she realized that he was missing her. Only then did Su Qing retract her murderous aura.
Old Master Qin was suddenly in low spirits and he was no longer in the mood to continue ordering. When the waiter came, he would ask him to pick a few dishes that full moon restaurant was good at.
Old Master Qin fell into deep thought. He didn’t know how to taste the food when he was eating, so he was very silent.
“Old Master Qin, may I ask if you are missing an old friend?”
