736 Revenge
“What’s wrong? Why are you looking for me?” Qiao Mei asked as she looked at Jiang Ye in confusion. She even took out a small handkerchief to wipe Jiang Ye’s perspiration.
“You… I… Oh my! Pray for the best!” Jiang Ye left in a hurry before she even finished speaking, leaving Qiao Mei behind alone.
Qiao Mei looked at the departing Jiang Ye with a puzzled expression. Qiao Qiang also came to Qiao Mei’s side and asked, “Why is she looking for you? Do you have any dealings with her?”
Qiao Mei did not remember having any contact with Jiang Ye, and they did not seem to have interacted before. Her childhood memories of being at Qiao Zhuang’s house had long gone. What did she mean by “pray for the best”? Could it be that there was danger coming?
!!
“It’s nothing. She’s probably just here to ask me for melon seeds. Let’s go home, grandfather.” Qiao Mei did not say anything and led Qiao Qiang home.
They were not affected by this matter. The next day, Qiao Mei and Qiao Qiang carried the baskets and went up the mountain early in the morning. Along the way, Qiao Qiang slowly taught Qiao Mei how to identify all kinds of medicinal herbs. When they reached the depths of the mountain, the baskets on their backs were almost filled with medicinal herbs.
“Grandfather, I’ll bring some herbs back first. You rest here.” Qiao Mei took Qiao Qiang’s basket.
Qiao Qiang wanted to go back with Qiao Mei. The mountain road was not easy to maneuver and they could take care of each other on the way if they walked together. If anything happened, they could deal with it in a timely manner.
“I’ll go back with you,” Qiao Qiang said.
“There’s no need, grandfather. You just rest here for a while. I’ll be back soon. There’s a small path that’s very close. I’m off!” Qiao Mei placed some water and food in Qiao Qiang’s hands and went down the mountain with the baskets.
Along the way, she hummed a song and the plants around her swayed slightly, as if they understood what she was singing.
When Qiao Mei was halfway down the mountain, the little tomato plant beside her swayed anxiously, as if it had something to say to her.
The other plants also began to behave in an anxious manner. This was the first time Qiao Mei had seen such a situation.
In the past, she could indeed sense the feelings of plants, but those were plants that she had activated and produced herself. She could only clearly sense the feelings of such plants and not of other plants.
However, at the moment, she could clearly feel that all the plants in the mountain were very anxious and uneasy. Qiao Mei reached out and touched the leaves of the little tomato plant. Soon, it allowed her to see the area where Qiao Qiang was.
Qiao Fu was sneakily approaching Qiao Qiang with a stone in his hand.
“Oh no.” Qiao Mei frowned and tried her best to rush back. At this moment, Qiao Qiang’s back was facing the direction where Qiao Fu was coming from. He was eating the rations and drinking the ginseng water that Qiao Mei had brought.
Qiao Fu had originally planned to launch a sneak attack on Qiao Mei. If he made Qiao Mei lose her babies, Qiao Mei would no longer have the energy to find trouble with their family. Moreover, since he had lost his wife and daughter, he wanted Qiao Mei to lose her children.
Then it would be even.
However, now that Qiao Mei had gone off, there was only Qiao Qiang left. It would also be worth it to kill Qiao Qiang. If Qiao Qiang died, then Qiao Qiang’s house would belong to him.
In the eyes of outsiders, because he was Qiao Zhuang’s eldest son, there was nothing wrong with him inheriting Qiao Qiang’s assets after Qiao Qiang died. In front of his own family, it would be clear that he was the one who killed Qiao Qiang and seized Qiao Qiang’s assets. He was the one who fought for this inheritance and no one else helped with anything. No matter what, the inheritance should be given to him. Qiao Mei was just a granddaughter and she was already married. She definitely would not get a share of the assets.
In that case, it actually seemed more worthwhile to kill Qiao Qiang.
Just as Qiao Fu was slowly making his approach, Qiao Qiang heard his footsteps. The sense of vigilance which was honed on the battlefield for many years allowed Qiao Qiang to quickly realize that there was a sneak attack coming from behind him.
Qiao Fu raised a big rock high up and smashed it down towards the back of Qiao Qiang’s head. Qiao Qiang was already prepared and dodged Qiao Fu’s attack by sliding sideways.
“Oh, it’s you,” Qiao Qiang said as he patted the dust off his body.
“So what if it’s me? I’m here to take revenge today!” Qiao Fu said as he pointed at Qiao Qiang.
There was actually no enmity between them. It was all because of the way Qiao Zhuang had educated Qiao Fu since he was young, causing Qiao Fu to always think that Qiao Qiang owed their family a debt.
Qiao Qiang did not know what he had done wrong to make Qiao Zhuang bear such a grudge.
