On the other side, Damien had no idea that he had become a man with foolish courage. He was currently chasing after the mutated beast with Wistoria and Xavier.
Though that thing had turned weaker than it was before, its small sizer had made it even more agile which allowed that Boreal Worm to slither past the crooks and holes rather quickly and smoothly.
They lost it more than once. If not for the fact that Wistoria and Xavier both were, wolf beastmen and could smell the scent of blood trickling down that mutated beast, they would have lost it long ago.
How could this damned system ask him to fight a mutated beast? He couldn't even fight with the bunch of goons that William brought with him. Even though he somehow managed to land a punch, he was stabbed by William in return. How could Dan even think that he could deal with that thing?
And he was looking at him as if waiting for him to take down that damned thing like King Kong.
Was he seriously expecting him to pick up and throw that thing on the ground as if it were nothing? He might be dreaming.
"You just need to throw the remaining ointment on that mutated beast," said Dan as if he could read Damien's thoughts and given that he was giving him a look of pure disdain Damien knew that Dan was seriously looking down on him for not being able to do something so simple.
As if!
"You are lucky that you are just —just a— just," Damien struggled to find the right word to describe Dan but when he could not, he rolled his eyes and said, "If only you were human, I would have pushed you in front of a beast as dangerous as that, let us see how you like it."
Could he not see that the beast was monstrous?
Not to forget that there amount of ointment in the mortar was limited. He only had one damn chance and if he missed that, it would be game over for everyone.
What he needed was to find the weakness of that damn thing before it harmed anyone else. But how? How was he supposed to find—
Wait a second, a thought suddenly flashed in Damien's head as he said, "Activate Eye of observation."
Damien bit back a curse, this damned thing. It was already injured to this point and still had the energy left to fight back.
But then again, it was a matter of life and death. Who would accept death without fighting?
"Just one more fatal blow," Damien said to Xavier. "You just—AH!"
Damien felt the world turning upside down as something smashed against his abdomen. He felt a sharp pain as if something had pierced his skin.
'You have to be fucking kidding me,' he closed his eyes, breathed twice and finally summoned the courage to look down. Yup. That thing got him despite all the protective measures.
A sharp thorn-like pincer was sticking in his skin as blood oozed from the blow that thing had delivered to him. If that was not worse enough, that thing even sent him flying. Flying.
God help him.
"Lord Damien!" Xavier called out as he rushed towards Damien, his feet taut as he used walls to jump from one building to another.
And just as Damien was about to hit the hard wooden wall of the stable, Xavier caught him in his arms.
"Are you alright?" Wistoria, who had chased after the two, asked. She was panting as she looked at Damien, looking extra pale as she gazed at his deep wound. "This wound will not heal easily."
"This is nothing to worry about," said Damien, his face scrunched up in pain as he said, "We need to deliver one last blow to that thing or else it will escape."
That thing, Damien was going to make it regret even touching him.
