Chapter 152: Controlling mana

'Wild beasts again?'

"How did this happen?" Robert asked with a frown. "I heard from the head of the Keom family that they had already taken measures to stop the beasts from attacking."

The military officer did not remark; he just smiled with an ugly demeanour.

"Let's go; this will turn into a big problem," Gavin said with a grim look. "There is no point in asking how it happened and why weren't the beasts taken care of."

Were the words of the Keom family's head worth taking into consideration? That man only knew how to live his life in debauchery. It was good enough that he didn't cause trouble by forcing women into prostitution and killing the men in their family. How could they expect him to care about the official duties?

Robert nodded. He turned to look at Luke and asked, "Are you coming?"

"I might as well," Luke agreed with a nod.

The three healers were in such a hurry that they forgot all about Damien. Seeing that they were living without them, Dan couldn't help but remind Damien,

[Host, this is the perfect time for you to hone your skills and earn points by saving lives. You cannot waste this opportunity.]

Damien would have agreed to go with the three healers even without that reminder. He stepped forward and said to the three men, "Wait, I want to come with you as well."

This attack sounded like it might be something to worry about. The military officer who rushed to find healers to help the injured soldiers was also limping. This was something that Damien noticed the second the officer rushed inside the guild. The one who came to look for help was obviously injured as well, so how poor might be the condition of those who were so severely injured that they had to send a limping soldier?

It would be really problematic if he didn't go with them.

[Ah! It feels good, Master. What are you doing? No matter what you are doing, keep doing it. I can feel my body getting stronger.]

The two of them were connected by a magical contract so as long as Damien got stronger, so would Claw.

Damien knew that he was doing something right and continued to channel the mana within and outside the beast core. He circulated the mana-like rings around his beast core, letting it soak the mana properly instead of infusing it directly.

Xavier watched Damien and narrowed his eyes; he noticed a faint change within Damien's aura. It was too weak to be noticed but as he suffered from chaotic mana explosions within his beast core, he sensed something amiss at once.

During the three-hour ride, Damien continued to control his mana flow. Though something did happen and he chose the right method to do it, it was still not enough to give him instant results.

Damien sighed when he opened his eyes, feeling refreshed and empowered. How he wished that this practice would have given him instant results!

"We are here," The military officer opened the door of the carriage and looked up at the five men. "The attack happened at the Valley of Di'lack."

"Thus, we had to build a makeshift camp here at the top of the cliffs."

Damien glanced at the three healers who nodded at him and the four of them got down the carriage. The military officer guided them through the jagged rocks and the forest that surrounded the camp that they had built before finally bringing them to the camp that had multiple tents erupted all over the land like wild mushrooms.

When Damien stepped inside the camp, he could not help but frown when he saw that there were only lightly injured soldiers.

Didn't the military officer say that these beast-man soldiers were gravely injured? But they only had small injuries and broken bones!

"S–save me."
