Chapter 60- Shit...
Some days of the Academy passed without any troubles. Well, for the most part, that is.R/ê/Ad lateSt ch/a/pters at nô(v)e(l)bin/.c/o//m Only
Logan didn't come to challenge me again. Thankfully, it seems he has lost interest in this weak one. I have also kept my distance from the other main cast to not draw any attention when I need to act.
The memories I saw that day after consuming Alatia's blood were something I had kept a secret from her. I wasn't sure what I should make out of that dream that's why I decided to keep it to myself for the time being.
Although I was uncertain about my origin now I wasn't going out of my way to research it. After all, extra effort would bring unnecessary attention.
And talking about attention, the only thing that has been troubling me for the past few days then it was,
"Are you waiting for your mistress?" Outside the council office, where I stood in silence, the only Professor who bothered herself with a butler was none other than the Potion expert.
"Good evening, Miss Clara." I politely greeted her without showing how annoyed I was with her continuous pestering.
Any time she finds me alone, she comes to me and tries to make small conversations. It isn't like I was irritated because of that, but rather because her attention on me would severely change the plot.
Having Ceaser's hatred directed at me rather than Logan could prove to be counterproductive that's why I want to avoid Clara. However,
"If it's not much then can we share lunch?"
I resisted sighing before I responded, "Forgive me, Miss Clara, but as a butler, I cannot slack off during duty hours."
She tilted her head before suggesting, "But doesn't the council work take two hours at least? I am sure it won't be much of a problem."
She suddenly held my hand and against my will began to pull me—urging me to call out for her, "Okay, let's settle this."
I looked around the hall with the help of Beta and concluded that there was no one around the lobby. Once I ensured I made Clara look at me,
"Can I ask you why you are persistent in gaining my attention, Miss Clara?" She looked taken aback by my direct approach but soon she confessed,
"I just want to know about the mister who is bad at hiding his traces."
The letter demanded my and Alatia's presence the next weekend. The subject of this sudden invitation was to reward me for my services and to ensure that in the future, if calamity befalls I can at least perform the duty of a meat shield for Alatia.
"You are troubled about the ritual, right?"
I sighed before nodding.
"Although I know that I won't die by consuming a Divine Awakened's blood...showing any adverse effect might cause them to suspect me."
The law to execute every Curse User was rigid and unmoving. Unless I don't do something that can be called 'beneficial for humanity' I won't get pardoned upon getting my secret revealed. Although Alatia's support can help me, I don't want to push her into that spot where she has to go against her family.
In the past, things were different that's why I didn't mind taking advantage of Alatia.
In response to my concern, Alatia remained silent before she suggested, "Kyle, there is a chance that the spies of the Capital might have seen you using your Doll's abilities or one of the fellow students of the Sage might have reported about you to my brothers or worse, my father already know about your magical abilities?"
My expression froze upon hearing that. I had never actually considered that possibility. Although I knew my fellow students wouldn't have reported my skills since I never revealed my identity, my frequent proximity to Alatia might have made it easy to connect the dots.
Shit....was this invitation to behead me?
"Kyle, you don't need to worry. " Suddenly Alatia held my hand and softly caressed it.
I looked at her before she added, "The fact that you can use Dark arts and also consume the divine essence, might prove to be advantageous for us."
With her lips turning into a sadistic smile, she added, "Some drama, some tears...and we might be able to gain what my father would never grant to anyone in his right mind."
....sometimes I tend to forget that she is the main heroine of this world.
