Excluding Jai, others had dozed off on couch and stool due to exhaustion. Jai who came inside checked on her and realized she was awake from quiet a few minutes after seeing wet patches on the pillow.
Hearing Jai's voice, all woke up in the room and saw Sky crying but without making any sound.
Jai tried to stop her from crying but she didn't respond. He said something which made her pause and asked a question to which none of them could answer.
"Cry it out. Cry aloud, you will feel better." Jai knew, the more she keeps it in, the more she would suffer.
Loran said the same.
When she heard George say it, she spoke.
"Dad! If I cry it off, will that make you all say I'm your daughter, not somebody's else."
Sky smiled bitterly getting no response and got down from the bed.
It was heart-wrenching for them to watch her in the dejected state who always made sure everyone was happy.
She would make things livelier if she was seeing anyone of them feeling down. She herself would cheer up even if she was in a bad mood so that others don't be sad.
But her current state?
They couldn't do anything. Controlling himself, Loran tried to joke about it but it didn't affect her and her bitter smile increased.
Seeing her walk out of the hospital room and then the hospital, Jai didn't let anybody stop her.
He informed George to go home with the other two knowing she was going home. But Loran stayed with him and followed next to her for five miles to reach the home barefooted
When Loran tried to make her wear slippers, she didn't even pause to respond and walked off. Brothers weren't sure whether she was hearing them hence they became quite.
After entering the home at dawn time three, she went to her room without responding to George and Georgia and locked herself in.
Parents were scared thinking she might hurt herself as she never really locked the door.
"My little sister isn't that weak to have suicidal thoughts." Jai brushed it off easily. But they never kept their eyes away from the door as the lights inside were still on.
Yes! she didn't have any such thoughts. She had huddled on her bed and thought things through before going out at the usual breakfast time.
Even though her eyes weren't swollen which meant she wasn't crying, they never saw her down spirited as she was now. She looked like a lifeless doll.
Since Jai had asked to prepare breakfast as it had been 35 hours she ate anything.
In fact, none of them ate or drink anything excluding Georgia to whom they forced her to eat due to her weakness.
Sky sat with others and ate quietly. She opened her mouth to speak at last. "I heard, we could get permission from the police and get DNA tested. I want to do it."
She didn't address anyone but they all knew who she wants to get tested.
She wasn't a school kid. She had basic knowledge about it. If she wasn't David's daughter, her complaint would carry forward and David would be imprisoned for claiming her as his daughter.
"We will get it done today." Jai replied and saw her going back to her room.
It had just an hour plus time Sky kept her request, David reached their home. Sky who knew he was in the capital, understood he came by air and smirked.
Jai took Sky, David followed them to the police station, Sky signed the complaint and David signed the consent for the DNA test.
It was enough for Sky to know he wasn't lying but she didn't want to lose her last string of hope and gave her blood sample with David.
Due to David's high profile, they sent the sample to the capital city right after taking from them for further process.
The next day afternoon, Sky went to the police station where David was also present. After receiving the report, Sky smiled and thanked police officers before leaving.
That confused David but Jai knew it wasn't a happy smile. She wasn't happy.
Before Jai could be caught up with her, she had hopped on a cab and left.
Seeing the cab going straight where it had to take the left turn to go home, Jai followed immediately in his car after warning David to stay away from Sky for some time.
The cab had circled the town twice before she got off at the home. Jai saw her face which was clean and plain while she handed cab driver money.
He parked the car at the roadside instead of garage and went in to see Sky not answering anyone and keeping her head low.
Sky spoke after a few minutes standing in front of Loran, George, and Georgia where Jai was standing behind her.
"I don't want to go with that man. If you all want me to leave from here, can I stay here till I arrange a place for myself?"
She finished saying in her emotionless voice which she uses for others. Jai turned her slapped her hard from which she fell on the floor.
Sky burst into tears, She wasn't crying because of Jai who raised his hand first time on her. It wasn't because of the pain on her cheek. That pain was nothing compared to how she felt when she read the paternity test report, '..... David Harley is the biological father of Sky Barton...'
She felt suffocated just by thinking about it. She huddled in Loran's arms who hugged her as she was crying. She heard Jai speak, "That was to remind who you are."
That was to remind you, You are Sky Barton
That was to remind you, You are my little sister
That was to remind you, speak after thinking
Sky started wailing saying that 'I don't want to go with that man1. I don't want to leave here2.'
Jai didn't stop and left upstairs.
He knew she would think about every possibility. She didn't live like an orphan to get happy about seeing a man pop out of nowhere and claiming her as his daughter.
Thinking through about it would only make them understand that David was there to take her with him else he wouldn't have to reach them or met her. DavidThe Barton family
