Merry Christmas

Beyond Earth, battles across the universe didn't last long. Though the conflicts caused massive destruction, the absence of civilians allowed the heroes to fight more recklessly.

When they were still "superheroes," protecting people and cities had been their primary duty. Even though they had the strength to crush their foes, they always had to ensure the safety of those around them.

Take the Avengers as an example.

In most Marvel universes, superhero actions often caused collateral damage, which led to resentment from ordinary people. While executing justice, superheroes inadvertently harmed unlucky bystanders.

In such cases, the hatred for superheroes outweighed any admiration. Only those who weren't directly affected could genuinely appreciate them—a sort of "admiring the dragon from afar" situation.

Now, however, there were no "civilized" regions left in the universe. Since the zombie virus had swept across the cosmos, the universe had turned into one massive slaughterhouse.

The instructions Alex gave to the heroes were straightforward: eliminate all enemies at any cost.

Freed from constraints, the unleashed power of these heroes was astonishing.

After the lightning summoned by Thor's hammer wielded by Black Canary tore through the Nova Corps' defenses, there was nothing left to stop them.

Kara freely unleashed her heat vision, slicing zombie Novas into bits. With every action, she reaped countless twisted lives sinking into the abyss.

This wasn't an evil act of world destruction, but it also couldn't be called an act of justice. Yet neither Kara nor Black Canary had the time or luxury to ponder the morality of their actions.

They only knew one thing: they were like janitors cleansing the universe.

If the universe were a human body, they were the immune system eradicating a disease capable of destroying the whole organism.

A bolt of lightning as thick as an arm incinerated Rhomann Dey as he charged forward. Without hesitation, Black Canary hurled Mjölnir, blasting a distant spaceship into fragments.

Stretching out her hand, she summoned Thor's hammer back to her grasp. But this time, it wasn't just one hammer that returned.

"What the—?"

Two Mjölnirs landed in her hands, and even Black Canary couldn't help but be astonished.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Kara asked, turning her head curiously at the commotion. She casually smashed a zombie Nova's head while speaking.

"I just realized how crucial it was for Alex to add a 'lock' to this Mjölnir he gave me."

Black Canary shook her head with a wry smile, lifting the alternate hammer to show Kara.

"Hah, he's always right. He's incredibly foresighted," Kara remarked with a grin, understanding the implication immediately.

"You're right. I noticed that about him the moment I met him. In some ways, he reminds me of Batman, but... he's far more human."

Black Canary shrugged, then glanced meaningfully at Kara.

"You've known him longer than I have. You should understand him better, right?"

Kara paused for a moment, considering. She and Alex had been through countless dangerous adventures together, and as she thought back, a flood of memories surfaced.

Elsewhere, Jason stood atop a vehicle, wielding two submachine guns and carrying a large arsenal on his back. Like a war god, he unleashed relentless firepower against the incoming zombie Man-Beast.

"Oh my God, if your 'brilliant' plan involves charging head-on into tens of thousands of zombies, then I'm not impressed!"

As the horde grew larger, Dick threw out explosives and leapt off a skyscraper with his grappling hook.

BOOM!

"Hahahaha! Best family trip ever! Woohoo!"

Damian laughed uncontrollably, finally unleashing the side of himself that had been repressed during the wars on Apokolips.

At that moment, he was neither the head of the League of Assassins nor the sole Batman of the world. He was just a boy, finally freed from overwhelming burdens.

He had his siblings, his father—everything had returned, and in the best way possible.

"...Damian, could you stop causing trouble for once?!"

Landing safely with his grappling hook, Dick panted heavily and spoke with exasperation.

"Don't listen to him, Damian," Jason's muffled but energetic voice came through the comms.

"I heard the Batcycle in the Wasteland has been modified into a Ghost Rider version, complete with a blue-flame Gatling gun. Don't you want to try it out?"

"Oh?!"

Damian's eyes lit up instantly.

Dick slapped his forehead in frustration. The disparity in priorities between him and his brothers left him utterly drained.

"Heavens above! Bruce, can't you say something to them?!"

"This is your responsibility, Dick."

Bruce's voice came through cold and devoid of emotion, as always. He was perpetually serious, distant, and hard to approach—especially during missions.

Hearing this, Dick had no choice but to relent.

What Dick didn't know was that, after saying those words, Bruce Wayne's lips curled into a faint smile.

It lasted only a moment, but it didn't escape Kate's notice.

"Well, this is rare—to see you in such a good mood," Kate remarked, sitting in the passenger seat of the Batmobile. As she manned the machine gun alongside Batman, she smiled.

"I'm still human, Kate. I just haven't figured out how to fully step into the role of a father yet," Bruce Wayne replied nonchalantly.

"Is there anything you 'can't' do?" Kate raised an eyebrow but didn't linger on the topic. "So you're really not going to rein them in? Aren't you worried Jason might be a bad influence on Damian?"

Bruce replied calmly.

"Jason is a good kid—that's indisputable. He's survived the Lazarus Pit and the Super-Soldier Serum. That alone sets him apart from countless others. As for Damian's growth, I trust Dick to handle it."

Hearing his explanation, Kate couldn't help but stifle her laughter as she nodded.

What could she say? Since Bruce didn't know how to raise kids, he assigned Damian a "stepdad" and "stepmom."

"Classic, Bruce."
