“Yawn…”

The Mystic Will (Audiobook)

“You look sleepy, Freya-san.”

We are working in the director’s room.

Lidoria-san became the new director and I became her assistant.

This relationship has been going on for about a month now.

We’ve become close, and the director’s room has become one of our comfortable places.

“Did you stay up all night making golems again yesterday?”

“Hahaha… yes.”

“You’ll ruin your health if you don’t take it easy, you know? But it seems like telling you that is useless.”

“I’m sorry.”

I laugh apologetically at Lidoria-san’s exasperated expression.

How many times have we had this conversation?

“Is everything going well? With the golem-making, I mean.”

“Yes, so far.”

“How far have you progressed?”

“Um, I’ve completed up to the 28th step.”

“28… as usual, it’s beyond standard.”

The golem core left behind by the previous director.

Two commands had already been granted in the first two steps.

From there, I converted an additional 26 commands into magic and granted them to the golem.

“It seems like Freya-san is likely to complete it easily.”

“That’s not true. It’s definitely difficult when the number of steps increases. The work efficiency gradually decreases.”

I was able to complete about one to five steps in a day from scratch.

However, as the number increased to ten, twenty, the time it took to establish them inevitably increased.

Now, I have to wait at least one night to write in one command.

“It’s fast enough. Normally, it’s abnormal to be able to write more than twenty steps. Moreover, because the core of the golem converts the instructions into magic and writes them, it also takes time.”

Lidoria-san often says that I’m abnormal.

Of course, it’s not meant as an insult, but rather a compliment.

I still can’t believe it.

I’m just doing normal things.

Even though I’m praised by Lidoria-san and His Highness…

I wonder why.

I still can’t think of myself as amazing.

“How many steps do you plan on making?”

“Let’s see, it will be necessary up to fifty-seven.”

“fifty… That’s a different dimension. Can I visit and observe the process next time?”

“Of course.”

While exchanging a fun and lively conversation, we efficiently completed our work at hand.

Since we divided the tasks between the two of us, our work speed was significantly faster.

It seems that it was the same in the past, but the greatest advantage is being able to communicate and help each other like this.

Sometimes we concentrate on our work in silence and take a break for tea once we finish.

We’re enjoying every day in one way or another.

Tontonton――

The door to the director’s room makes a sound.

I wonder if a colleague came to report something.

Lidoria-san responds, “Please come in.”

“Excuse me.”

The voice just now was――

“Your Highness.”

“Hey, Freya.”

The one who showed up after opening the door was His Highness Julius.

He smiles at me.

“Your Highness Julius.”

“Hello, Director Lidoria.”

His Highness also greets Lidoria-san.

These two already know each other.

However, it’s his first time visiting the director’s room, so Lidoria-san was surprised.

“I’m sorry for coming suddenly. Did I disturb your work?”

“No, it’s not a problem. What business do you have today?”

“Oh, I have something to discuss with Freya.”

His Highness looked at me.

“I have something to talk about. Can you spare some time?”

“Yes, Lidoria-san.”

“Leave the rest to me. Have a good trip.”

“Thank you.”

I stood up and bowed to Lidoria-san before walking over to His Highness.

“I’ll send her back when we’re done. Until then, I’ll borrow her.”

“Yes.”

“See you later.”

Lidoria-san waved to us with a gentle smile.

I followed His Highness out of the director’s office.

“I’m sorry for taking you out here so suddenly.”

“No, if it’s an invitation from His Highness, I will always respond.”

“Thank you. It’s been a while since we talked like this.”

“Yes.”

His Highness has been busy lately, and I’ve been working with Lidoria-san, so we haven’t had many opportunities to talk.

We’ve also been having meals separately more often.

To be honest, it’s been a little lonely.

That’s why I’m happy to be able to talk to His Highness like this.

“We finally wrapped up the black market case. The rest of the matter is in the hands of the knights.”

“I see. It’s great that it seems to be resolved safely.”

“It’s also thanks to you. You did a good job.”

The crackdown on the black market and the identification of the nobles involved kept them busy as they had to travel to various places for it.

But now that it’s over, the black market case is out of His Highness’s hands.

“Well then, you can take a break for a while.”

“I wanted to do that, but there are still things I have to do.”

His Highness relaxes his shoulders.

That’s too bad.

When we’re busy, I can’t make time to talk with His Highness slowly.

Because I had been thinking about indulging in luxurious things like having dinner together, I feel disappointed in myself for being so selfish.

I wonder if we won’t be able to meet again for a while…

“We’re hoping you can help us with our next case.”

“… Huh?”

“Oh, if you’re busy, I won’t force you. I won’t make it mandatory. It’s just a request from me.”

“N-No, that’s not it! I was just surprised… I’m happy.”

I was glad that His Highness had come to rely on me. And the hope that I might be able to work by his side again made my heart swell.

“Thank you.”

“No need to thank me. I am, after all, the magic tool maker for His Highness.”

I felt a little embarrassed as I said that. When I glanced at His Highness, he seemed to be pleased.

“Now then, there are some people I want to introduce you to today.”

“Me?”

“Yes.”

Before I knew it, we had arrived in front of His Highness’s office. He opened the door.

Inside were four men and women whom I had never seen before.

“Let me introduce you. They are my personal guard.”
