Both my friends needed a moment of looking up with their mouths open, as they looked up at the gargantuan tree in its full glory. The fact that somehow your perception was able to grasp all that despite its massive size, was only adding to that effect. Then it got only worse because their minds started catching on to all the weirdness.
That was the worst part since they even seemed a bit freaked out. I guess they expected really strange things to suddenly happen, but when that anxiety passed, I was able to finally attract their attention to me.
- I need you to climb the tree and check if you can pick the seeds up. If you feel like you shouldn't,t don't do it, but otherwise get as many as you can until the feelings appear - I said.
Will at first ignored my words.
- That was a bold move - he pointed out. - You just ignored him completely.
- Because I believe he was wrong assuming you are not up to the task - I said.
- I think it was the right decision. The Great One is sometimes blinded by the fact that he thinks that he is the only one who cares about the cause - said Druoag. - We should try if it's possible. I will try to bring the seeds, but I will respect the rules of this place. I believe we all are capable of this. We should trust one another more. Otherwise, there is no chance we will win the war that is coming.
I nodded to his words because I agreed with every single one of them.
- Well said - Will admitted - but I'm afraid we are not on the same page. The Great One doesn't seem to be on the same page, just like a few people in our group, and by our, I mean us, humans.
? - We should work to change that - Druoag proposed.
- You should get your asses up on the tree and check if you can get some seeds. Then we can discuss politics - I pointed out.
My words brought them to reality. They didn't need any more encouragement, as they immediately went to work. This brought them quite a painful realization that not everything was working in this place as they were used to, and it no longer stayed in the sphere of feelings, as it became very real.
I watched them struggle as their strength began leaving their bodies at a rapid pace. Will in this matter was doing much worse than Druoag but he still was doing some progress in climbing.
Watching them quickly became boring, so I decided to look around some more. That place was so mysterious and had so much history to tell, that I just had to at least glance here and there a little bit.
I tried to walk around the trunk, but it was quite hard, as the massive weaves of gigantic roots blocked my path constantly. I had a feeling that I shouldn't use my powers, so I restricted myself just to the power of my muscles, which was declining at a very fast pace.
It took me hours to move. I had this much time, which I did confirm time and time again by looking up, at the two small ants making their way up, climbing the long creepers.
I was actually about to give up and try to return to the original spot since I was feeling a bit tired already, but my eyes caught onto something really strange. There was a small hole in between two roots, and through this hole, I thought I saw an empty space.
I wasn't sure if my eyes weren't deceiving me, so I got closer, only to confirm that it indeed was real, which led me to then climb over those roots. On top of them, I was able to see a very interesting little place at the very bottom of the World Tree.
It was a solid slab of something which I can only compare to obsidian. A bit mat, maybe slightly uneven on the surface, but that's actually not important. What was important, though was a massive throne right next to the gargantuan plant itself. It was simple like carved in regular, plain stone.
Not as big that Druoag could fit in it, but definitely not for a regular human. Even the tallest of us would find it too big.
I jumped off the root, sliding a bit on the polished surface, and almost falling on my face, but in the end, I bought my balance, then slowly approached the throne. I was very focused on my feelings, expecting to get a very strong incentive to leave that place, but nothing like that happened.
The world allowed me to get closer. I even touched the damn thing, but since nothing happened, I began examining it. My first thought was confirmed. It was plain, with no decorations, no strange signs, or marks.
It made me a bit disappointed, so I attempted to sit on it, which led me to feel that the whole world would collapse if I were to do that. It was so strong, that I stumbled backward, landing on my ass.
- Shit - left my mouth as I blinked a lot because everything was spinning.
After regaining my composure, I picked myself up. Since there wasn't anything there to see, I decided, after a single look up to confirm the position of my companions, to return to the spot where my anchor was left.
I could shadow walk there, and it didn't even feel wrong, but since they were still high up, I needed to kill some time, so even if it was tiring, I went with it.
A few more hours later we gathered at the same spot. Both Will and Druoag almost straight up fell on their faces. They bought brought only a single more seed, which seemed quite strange to me, but since they needed to catch their breaths, I waited without questioning them.
