- There is no way we can kill the boss - Tihana finally spotted out, as she kept fighting for her breath.
- I want at least try. Otherwise, we won't know how far we are from killing that thing - John said in between deep breaths. - And since your father is here, it's an opportunity to do this safely.
- Ok. Fine - she agreed to his proposal.
I just watched them, but couldn't really see, them since I was reminiscing my past. The first visit to this place, my struggle. The aftermath of the orcs' attack, directed by The Great One. Now things were good between us, but it made me once again pissed at him.
I could understand why he did what he did, but it didn't make it right. People paid for that with their lives.
A few minutes later, when I was done reviewing the past, Tihana and John stood up. They still looked far from perfect condition, but at least regained their breathing.
- You guys are sure about this? - asked some random hunter.
Nobody graced him with an answer. Well, if you consider Tihana and John walking towards the staircase, and then down as a form of an answer, then maybe my statement isn't correct, because that's what they did.
I followed them without hesitation. The rest needed a little bit more time, but they also joined.
The walk down was slow, as the duo leading it prolonged the thing to rest some more, but eventually, we reached the door to the boss room.
John didn't hesitate to open it, revealing a large, oval chamber. In the middle of it was a three meters deep pit, around fifty in diameter.
'',
The pit itself was rather well-lighted, with many metal torches fixed to the walls, and in the middle of it was embedded, in the floor, a large ax. There was only one part that remained in the shadows, right across the entrance.
I could see a big throne carved in the stone, with something sitting on it just barely outlined. Large beast of an orc.
Everything was just like in my memories.
The brat jumped down, causing the creature to stand up, revealing itself to everybody, as now the boss's appearance wasn't any longer obscured by shadows. A few people gasped in shock, as the creature was quite intimidating.
My daughter followed John by also jumping down.
Judging by the halberd in his hand, and the sword and shield chosen by her, Tihana was gonna defend, while the brat was gonna attack. An approach I've already seen when they fought the goblin boss.
The creature slowly walked to the weapon in the middle, while the duo flanked it from both sides.
- Oh my god. They are going to die - reached me from the side, said by one of the hunters.
At the same moment, the two jumped forward, attacking the orc, while he pulled his weapon from the ground.
Tihana landed next to him, sending a fireball at his head as she did so, then swung her blade at his knee. John stabbed him at the same time in the tight, then zapped with electricity.
It looked like a good attack, but then the head of the monster emerged from the flames, dragging some of them along, completely untouched, and it became clear that they were screwed.
The first thing that boss did, was to attack my daughter. He slammed her from above with the axe. She blocked, using the magic of her shield, which endured the hit, but her legs gave up under her, making her sit down in the sand.
With a smooth switch, the orc dragged the axe to the side, where John was about to stab him again, but got hit by the side of the massive weapon, and sent flying.
'',
It was a clear signal for me to intervene, so I shadow walked, picking them both up, one by one, and delivering out of the pit, then I shadow walked once more to position myself in front of the boss. I was a living barrier between the raging destroyer and a bunch of tired, weak humans.
- Show me what you've... - left my mouth half a second before I got slammed with the side of his axe, and hit the wall of the pit.
I rushed the stone, embedding myself quite well into it. Few people gasped as they saw that.
- I'm fine! - I jelled before shadow walking again in front of the boss.
He inhaled the air, then exhaled it into a form of a battle cry, which shook the entire underground chamber, instilling fear into the hearts of those who weren't brave enough to endure it, or stupid enough to ignore it.
There was something worse about that scream. Something way worse. That motherfucker spit at me, and it smelled terrible.
- You fucker - I said to time, wiping my cheek of the slimy, jelly, and smelly saliva.
I leaped forward and slammed him into that ugly face of his. It was a strong punch. The impact made a sound worthy of an explosion.
I thought it would rip his head off, turning him into smoke, but it didn't. He survived. Still got yanked into that air, and smashed into the wall on my left, making the whole chamber shake, and destroying that part of the pit.
I guess the dreadnought in him prevented such an outcome. It didn't help him when I shadow walked to close the distance and hit him for the second time. It also didn't help the wall.
The noise shook the vicinity, deafening the people. The shockwave sent the debris into the air, blinding them, while the impact created a local earthquake, which cracked a bit of stone under their feet.
They panicked at first, but when I showed up in front of them, holding the crystal left by the boss, they stopped freaking out.
- Let's go back. We have other places to be, don't we? - I asked, looking at Tihana.
Even she was impressed and responded by slowly nodding.
