Chapter 37 – Meeting Zhou Jingyu (1)

It was difficult for them not to stand out in the teahouse because Li Jing’er was carrying a bamboo basket holding ten catties of cotton for stuffing the quilt.

Before they could sit down, words of mockery floated over from the private room on the second floor.

“Upon seeing one’s sister, friends are forgotten.  Upon seeing women, morality is forgotten.  I remember I was invited out for a drink but after entering the city, everyone disappeared and I’m left alone to drink tea……..”

Such sorrow!

Sadness beyond words!

Initially, the three men, Chen Dasheng, Xiao Jingfeng, and Zhou Jingshen had agreed to drink together in Biyue Restaurant.  They agreed not to go back until they get drunk and wanted to have an enjoyable time drinking together.

Alcohol was prohibited in the army camp to prevent the soldiers from creating trouble after getting drunk, so one has to enter the city if one wanted to drink.  That was the existing rule and all the soldiers of the Chen Family had to abide by it.

Unexpectedly, after they entered the city on the way to Biyue Restaurant, Chen Dasheng who had sharp ears heard the shrill voice of Chen Yulian and knew that she was stirring up trouble again.  He quickly apologized to his two companions then said that he had to deal with family matters first and told them to wait for him.

A little later, Xiao Jingfeng mentioned that he had to settle some family matters as well and followed Chen Dasheng into the cloth shop.

The naturally beautiful and charming Zhou Jingyu did not have the patience to wait for anyone.  Although a long time had passed, there was still no sign of the two people, so he simply entered a nearby teahouse to sit down to avoid being watched by everyone like a ‘rare beast’.  His naturally celestial looks attracted glances wherever he goes and cannot be avoided.

Unexpectedly, after sitting for a long time, he still did not see anyone.  Of course, the two men had forgotten about him.  One of them went home to give his younger sister a lecture while the other man took care of his wife and children and as a result, Zhou Jingyu was left to himself.

Just as he was feeling bored and was about to leave, he happened to catch a glimpse of someone from the corners of his eyes.  Suddenly, he smiled thoughtfully and sat back to wait for the fun to begin.

“Divine Doctor Zhou.”  Xiao Jingfeng showed an embarrassed expression upon seeing him.

“Have you remembered what you’ve left behind?”  Zhou Jingyu teased.

Xiao Jingfeng placed his children down with a dry laugh and told them to greet Zhou Jingyu.

“I have indeed forgotten.  I’ve forgotten we entered the city together, I’m truly sorry.”

“Hello, Uncle Zhou.”  Shuangming looked at the beautiful man with curiosity.

“Hello, Uncle Zhou.”  Shuangzhen greeted softly.

Little Sister Yue who had just woken up started to rub her eyes.  When she saw Zhou Jingyu, she exclaimed excitedly.

“Beauty!”

“Beauty?!”  Zhou Jingyu frowned and glared fiercely at the child’s father.

“Don’t look at me, I didn’t teach her that.”  Xiao Jingfeng smiled in his heart.

Divine Doctor Zhou who always uses his eyes to glare fiercely at the brothers finally had this day when he is unable to vent his anger.

“Not you?”  Then he turned to look at the child’s mother.

As a mother, Li Jing’er was relatively calm and was not charmed by his beauty.

“It’s me.  Beautiful things should be appreciated.  Beauties are eye-catching, the more the better and they give out a feeling of joy.”

“So you think I’m beautiful?”  He smiled and raised his eyebrows very provocatively but his eyes lacked warmth and they were as cold as crystal snowflakes.

Beauty is never definite.

“Don’t you think you’re beautiful?”  She asked him instead.

He was startled and then laughed softly.  “Interesting.”

“Beauty in everyone’s heart has different definitions.  When Buddha looked at the lotus, he praised its beauty but after it had withered, does that mean it is no longer beautiful?  When ordinary people look at the lotus, they will think about when the lotus will bear seeds, when the seeds can be sold, and when the seeds can be eaten.  Isn’t this normal?”

“Life has different stages but what matters is the present.”

“Xiao Erlang, are you willing to give up this woman?”

It’s rare to find someone who suits his taste and if he doesn’t give it a try, he won’t be able to overcome the hurdle in his heart.

Xiao Jingfeng was taken aback when this unexpected question was thrown at him.  Then after realizing that Zhou Jingyu was serious, he replied firmly.  “No, she’s mine.”

“Uh……..if you’re unwilling, so be it.  Why are you showing me such a murderous look?  Will this Divine Doctor snatch civilian women?”

“Yes, you will.”

Zhou Jingyu is eccentric, acts as he pleases, is not bound by moral norms, and there is nothing that he can’t do.

Xiao Jingfeng’s memory is still fresh.

After he was shot by an arrow when he saved General Chen Rong and his life was about to end,  Divine Doctor Zhou used medicine to wake him up and asked him whether he was willing to be his guinea pig.  Divine Doctor Zhou told him that he was about to die anyway, so why not donate his body for medical experiments?    In this way, perhaps his life could be prolonged for a few more days.

In order not to become Doctor Zhou’s guinea pig, Xiao Jingfeng put in a lot of effort to stay alive.  The unsuccessful Doctor Zhou was so angry that he ignored Xiao Jingfeng for several days and said that Xiao Jingfeng did not understand the true value of guinea pigs.

When he heard this, Zhou Jingy laughed angrily.  “Xiao Erlang, are you brainless?”

“I have brains.”  He tapped his hard skull.

However, Xiao Jingfeng was not angered by this and instead sat down with his son and daughter.  After making sure the children were seated properly, he poured a cup of tea and handed it to his wife.

Zhou Jingyu narrowed his eyes.  “Are you laughing at me?”

Xiao Jingfeng sighed helplessly.  “I’m only stating facts.”

“I think you’re very happy.”  But it makes others unhappy.

“Do you see me laughing?”  Xiao Jingfeng was not happy but extremely wary.

This medicine-crazy devil has gone mad and sees everyone as a top-grade guinea pig.

Li Jing’er, who was listening to the meaningless conversation between the two men, could not help but smile.

They were like two children fighting over candies.  It was obvious they did not want to give away the candies but insisted that the candies were not good for the other party and used various arguments to convince the other party.

However from their pointless words, one could sense the deep friendship between them.  After bantering back and forth, it did not hurt their friendship and only a little spark was ignited.  Although there was a little anger, it did not reach the point of tearing at each other.  An everlasting friendship.

The two men asked in unison.  After asking the questions, they looked at each other in surprise and wondered what the other party was thinking.

“The relationship between the both of you is very good.”  So envious!

Zhou Jingyu felt unhappy while Xiao Jingfeng was doubtful.  The expression on both of their faces amused the bored Li Jing’er so greatly that she burst into loud laughter.

In modern times, this is called ‘mensao’…….a heart that is as hot as fire and a face that is as cold as ice.

(Mensao is a description of a man who is passionate inside but shows a cold and serious exterior.)

“What’s so interesting?  Can’t see it at all.”

Initially, Zhou Jingyu wanted to have fun and teased them but his arrogant temper flared up again.

Jiang Niang promised to marry him again so now he is in a very good mood and won’t be petty with others.

“Hmph!”  What is so great about having children?

The fact is that he doesn’t want any children.  If he wanted, based on his medical skills, it’s not difficult to have a hundred children a year and he can even have children without doing that deed.

Zhou Jingyu is a weird doctor in the field of medicine since he treats illnesses and dabbles in poisons at the same time.  He is very interested in Yunnan’s Gu so he learned the Miao people’s technique in raising Gu and even raised several kinds of Gu himself.

Among them is a kind of Gu called Mandarin Duck Gu which comprises a male and a female. First, they are raised in the seminal vesicle of a man, then the female Gu will crawl out of the man’s body and enters the woman’s uterus which will result in the woman getting pregnant.

Speaking about this, he had actually experimented with this before and planted Gu on a prisoner of war.  The female Gu was then placed into the body of a certain wealthy family’s daughter who was persistently pursuing him.  Soon, the woman became pregnant and because of this reason, the woman was sent to the countryside to await delivery.  Later, she gave birth to a baby boy with the distinctive features of a foreigner and in the end, the woman was sent far away to marry a 50-year-old widower as a second wife.

Zhou Jingyu’s intention was indeed scary.  He sent the baby boy back to the prisoner’s family and the baby inherited all the prisoner’s assets.

“Shuangming, Shuangzhen, what do you want to eat?  Red bean steamed cake, Ruyi Egg Rolls or Gold Shredded Steamed Dumplings?”

A plate held four pieces of dim sum and Xiao Jingfeng first picked up a piece for his wife before dividing the rest among the three children according to the sizes of the dim sum.  All the children had an empty plate in front of them.

“Xiao Erlang, have you asked me, the host, yet?”  He is indeed casual.

“Beauty, eat the cakes…….”  Little Sister Yue acted like a naturally-born lecher and teased the beautiful young master.  She then stuffed a piece of egg roll into her mouth.

Both her parents were dumbstruck.

“Beauty, eat the cakes……..delicious.”  Why is he not eating?

“Whose little bastard is this?!”  He growled.

“Raising children can help to cultivate one’s temperament, you should give it a try.”

Children can help to wear out one’s patience and temper one’s temperament. Li Jing’er made the suggestion based on her experience.

“Xiao Erlang, you need to control your wife and children!”

Sooner or later, his wife and children will climb all over this weakling’s head!
