Kai froze as the cheerleaders stopped practicing. The ball only gently grazed Suzy's feet, but all hell broke loose as her members flocked to her like moths drawn to a flame."Are you alright?"
"What the heck? Those basketball nerds aren't being careful again?"
"What if you get injured? The football team's game is next week!"
Kai clicked his tongue, finding them to be acting a little bit too dramatic.
It seemed like they still didn't notice his presence, and he would like to keep it that way.
As he reached out for the ball, he noticed it had rolled just behind the cheerleader's captain.
Seizing the opportunity, Kai bent down to grab it, his focus solely on going back to the game at hand. Little did he know, Lady Luck had other plans for him that day.
Out of nowhere, a sudden gust of wind swept across the open garden. In the blink of an eye, Suzy's skirt fluttered upward, revealing a glimpse of her lacy bloomers to the world.
Kai froze from behind her, and he quickly closed his eyes like the gentleman that he was.
Meanwhile, Suzy's fellow cheerleaders attempted to cover her up.
Kai, finally opening his eyes and wanting to get back to their side of the court, quickly stood.
However, before he could leave, a piercing scream shattered the air.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" a voice filled with indignation rang out.
Gasps echoed through the field as all eyes turned toward the unexpected spectacle.
Kai paused in his tracks when he felt their burning gazes on his skin. It was a good thing his hair mostly covered his eyes; otherwise, they would notice the panic struck on his face.
"I was just trying to get the ball," he said, quietly sighing in relief when he didn't stammer.
However, his words got lost in the chaos unfolding around him.
For them, the damage had been done. They whispered among themselves, finding it hard to believe that Kai didn't just peek inside their most precious cheerleader's skirt.
Suzy Mei also looked at him with suspicion, her eyes narrowed.
Kai pursed his lips and looked down at the ball in his hands. Then, he glanced at his teammates, who were acting like they didn't have anything to do with what just happened.
"Such luck I have," he muttered.
"Are you trying to say something?" Suzy asked, a frown still gracing her face. Her voice made the others turn silent, finally giving Kai a chance to speak.
"I didn't see anything," Kai honestly said. "Our ball was knocked over to this side, so I was just trying to get it."
Suzy noticed the sincerity in his voice, but as one of her friends leaned over to whisper in her ears, that trust instantly shattered.
"Don't believe him, Suzy. He went to our school for quite some time, and he was a troublemaker and a player," she whispered.
Suzy clicked her tongue and crossed her arms in front of her chest, sticking her chin high up in the air.
"Well, I'm gonna go now," Kai said, wanting to get back to the court and continue their game.
"Aren't you going to apologize?" Suzy asked, narrowing her eyes further.
Kai pursed his lips before sighing.
"Fine, I'm sorry," he said; however, there wasn't a hint of sincerity in his voice.
"I stand my ground, though," he smirked. "I didn't do anything worth apologizing for."
Kai didn't know where he got all the courage to speak this way, but he loved being able to voice out his feelings without the fear of getting beat up.
"Besides," he quickly added, wanting to strengthen his point even further. "You're not my type anyway."
He smirked at the pretty lady before hurriedly going back to their side of the court.
Suzy was in shock. The other cheerleaders were also appalled. Her friend, Yani, attempted to go after the tall, cocky boy.
However, Suzy quickly stopped her.
"It's alright," she sighed, feeling a bit stressed since she hadn't met anyone who wasn't immediately enamored by her beauty.
"What do you mean?" Yani angrily exclaimed. "Not only did that guy peek inside your skirt, but he basically humiliated you in front of everyone! You should report this to your father."
Suzy shook her head, not wanting to stir any trouble. They had a game next week, and they also had some upcoming competitions, so she felt it would be a waste of time to engage in petty fights.
"That's Kai Guo, right?" she asked, looking at the tall guy.
The second-string basketball team was now back to their game, and they looked like a bunch of idiots frolicking on the court. None of them seemed to know how to work as a team, and it appeared like all of their shots were missed by a large fraction. Suzy shook her head in disappointment.
It looked like the basketball team was going to have another dark year.
Granted, she didn't really know what the real situation was in the first-string team, but if their second-string team was in this condition, then she wasn't hopeful at all.
"Yeah," Yani nodded, responding to her question. "Are you sure you don't want to report this to anyone else? We can also get the guys to teach him a lesson or something?"
Suzy turned to their male members, but they quickly looked away.
"Uh, I'm out of here," one of them said, not wanting to try his luck in fighting with Kai Guo.
"What a bunch of cowards," Yani scoffed.
"Yani, calm down. I'm sure I don't want to teach him a lesson," Suzy said, calming her friend down.
"They're not worth it," she smiled, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
"With how this team is looking, we're not going to be crossing paths with them during games anyway."
