C22 – My Life Is Over!

Tang Yue gently brushed the leaves off her hair and advised her, “Ya, you can’t just hit people like that. You should apologize to the lady right away.”

Tang Ya’s eyes widened in disbelief, “You want me to say sorry?” She retorted with anger, “It’s all because of you…”

“I understand that, but we’re in a lady’s home. You just need to use your words. What if you spend ten thousand dollars on her face? That’s not a good way to start. What will we do if we can’t get married?”

The young ladies nearby burst out laughing. “Wu Shi’s Ah Hong, you’re doomed now. The young master just called you ugly! How will you ever find a husband in the future?”

“Oh no, what will you do? Maybe you should go to the palace and beg your aunt to find you a good match?”

“Haha…”

The girls burst into laughter while Tang Yue scratched his head awkwardly. He remained silent, wondering why the situation seemed to be very serious.

Tang Ya’s lips curved up involuntarily as she gracefully approached the girl. “Ah Hong, it’s my fault. I reacted too quickly. Later, I will arrange for the best medicine to be delivered to your home. Please don’t be upset.”

“Don’t be upset”? How could she not be upset? Wu Liuhong glared fiercely at the Tang siblings with malice in her beautiful eyes. She covered her face and ran away, crying.

Tang Yue nudged his sister discreetly, and the three siblings bowed to the princess before quickly departing from the scene.

Tang Ya burst out laughing as soon as they got into the carriage. “Haha… Seeing that shameless Wu Liuhong who is too embarrassed to show her face in public really makes me feel better!”

Tang Yue smiled bashfully and asked, “Um… Ya, could this lead to any significant problems? For instance, would her family come looking for her?”

If the girl had been mistreated, her family would surely intervene. If rumors spread that he had bullied a woman, it would be humiliating.

He regretted getting involved with the girl as it might cause complications. However, he couldn’t bear to see his younger sister being bullied, so he acted impulsively.

“Hmph! Coward! The Wu family is nothing. If not for Beauty Wu, who they favor, how would Wu Liuhong dare to mock me?”

Tang Wan, who was beside them, comforted Tang Yue, “Don’t worry, brother. It’s her fault. Even if they come after her, she’ll be able to handle it.”

Tang Yue felt relieved after hearing her words, but he still cautioned Tang Ya, “In the future, try not to confront your opponents directly. If you can’t defeat them, it will only harm your reputation. It’s better for girls to be a little bit strategic.”

Tang Ya’s face darkened. She clenched her fists and spoke with hatred, “Why do I need a good reputation anyway? It doesn’t matter…”

Tang Yue hesitated before asking, “Ya, have you met the Noble Heir of State Duke Heng before?”

“Don’t mention him!” Tang Ya’s expression became increasingly unpleasant as tears welled up in her eyes.

Tang Yue understood her feelings very well when he saw her like this. He was worried that her impression of her future husband was very poor.

Just as Tang Yue was about to ask her about the background of their arranged marriage, the carriage suddenly jolted violently. The three of them collided with one another, and Tang Yue hit his head against the wall.

Immediately after, the carriage began to move at an alarming speed. The carriage shook uncontrollably. Tang Yue quickly embraced his two sisters in his arms and asked the coachman urgently, “What’s happening?”

“Young master, the horse was frightened. The slave… the slave…” The driver let out a wail of agony and lost his voice.

Tang Yue was embraced tightly by his two sisters, who were also screaming in his ears. He pushed them to his left and right, and instructed them to hold onto the handrail at the edge of the carriage. “Hold on tight. I’ll go out and take a look.”

“Brother, don’t go… it’s dangerous!”

Tang Yue handed them cushions from the carriage and instructed, “Use these to protect your heads. Don’t panic!” He plucked a hairpin from Tang Ya’s hair and held it tightly as he stepped out of the carriage.

“Brother, be careful…”

Tang Yue pushed the door open with his hand, but the coachman was nowhere to be found, and the horses were galloping at full speed. Tang Yue cautiously climbed out, inch by inch, attempting to grab hold of the reins.

“Get out of the way! The horses are spooked!” Tang Yue shouted multiple times, watching in horror as they swerved around the carriage, praying they wouldn’t collide with it.

Just as he was about to secure the reins, a sedan chair suddenly appeared from around the corner. Tang Yue was so frightened that he shut his eyes and yelled, “Move out of the way! The horse is spooked!”

Gritting his teeth, he leaped onto the horse’s back, clenching its neck with both hands and attempting to halt it.

Unfortunately, it was futile. Despite slowing down, the horse refused to stop, and Tang Yue was unable to shift his position on its back. All he could do was cling tightly to the animal and avoid being thrown off.

At that moment, the palanquin on the other side was unable to evade. The guards on both sides rushed towards the sedan, drew their swords, and hacked at the runaway horse.

Tang Yue was confronted with the flashing blades and let out a cry, “This is the end for me!” He shut his eyes, anticipating being struck by the swords or being thrown from the horse.

Neither was an outcome he wished to confront.
